This is a "Jewelcrafer only" type of gem.

A reward for being a JC.
Like blacksmiths and the such get bop items to use for themselves.

You can only have this in one piece of gear, which is pretty stupid imo. I put it into my new healing gloves without realising that I couldn't equip them because I already had one in my head. Waste of gold buying the ruby, as I've had to buy a new healing gem :(

Casters, notice this gives 9 damage as well!

For the ele shamans, shadow priests, balance druids, and (prot?) pallies out there, consider putting one of these in your damage gear. Same damage/mats as a runed living ruby, but you get a completely free 26 healing.

Also if you happen to not like buying expensive world drop patterns and don't have Runed Living Ruby,everyone gets this recipe, so cut away. ;)

Just remember that this is Unique Equipped, which means that you may cut as many as you like, but you can only have 1 equipped at any one time. So, you could in theory socket this gem into two different Chestpieces and swap them when you want to.

This is the best healing gem ( durning burning cursade ) but because it reqs to be a JC not everyone can get it. But the second best is https://www.wowhead.com/tbc/item=32195 but if you don't feel like using the gold to but it, you can always get one from the quest to kill the last boss in MGT the gem is https://www.wowhead.com/tbc/item=35489. So if your not a JC I would get the Teardrop Crimson Spinel, or the same name but from the quest :P.

PS if your a miner and trying to get https://www.wowhead.com/tbc/item=32195 you can mine https://www.wowhead.com/tbc/item=32227 which is the mat for Teardrop Crimson Spinel, so you don't have to use the gold ( But maybe a tip for the JCer ). Also it gets you alot of gold =)

its BOP so dont make it for a friend or alt as someone I know just accidently did! You'll end up with a soulbound gem that wont do you friend or alt any good :(

No. It means that if you socket the gem into an item that is BoE, it causes that item to become soulbound. There is no way to give this gem to anyone.

Thott doesn't show it, maybe it changed after the last patch, but it also says Unique-Equipped. Does that mean you can only have 1 equipped throughout all of your armor?

Yes it is Unique-Equipped, You can only have one of these socketed in your armour. And only J/C can use them, as they are pretty much BOP (similar to Spellfire/frozen Shadoweave sets, and Boots of Blasting)

Unique means you can only have one on your toon, either in your bank or in your bags.
Sometimes it says Unique(X) where X is the most you can have of this item on one character. Marks of honor are Unique(100).

Unique-equipped means you can only have one equipped. you can have the gem on as many different pieces of gear but you can't wear them all at the same time.

I couldn't help but notice there is no more unique inthe description, did this change on the last patch? If so I'm taking up JC on my pally

They're still unique-equipped. I don't think this will ever change because if it does, JC will be much too overpowered.

Actually, you're wrong. Making JC gems be not U-E would make it the most useful Proffesion in the game, because while people would be walking around with blue gems and a few purples from instances, the JC's would be walking around with full epic gems that are even better than the ones from the instances... Imagine a tank with full 18 stams instead of full 12 stams... Imagine how much more healing someone could get if they used this in all of their slots.

What is the point of doing Jewelcrafting if you can't make them for your friends? That is the only reason I spent all the money to get high enough to make these gems, to make them for friends and to sell them. This really stinks!
