Comparing this to the Tier 5 Crystalforge Greathelm (https://www.wowhead.com/tbc/item=30136), if I were gearing for spell crit, I'd go for this helm no problem, since you can offset the lower base healing with Royal Nightseyes and Teardrop Living Rubies and get far higher crit chances on your heals. If however, I was going for spell haste, I'd go for the Tier 5 helm instead, mainly for the mana regen to cover the cost of all the faster healing you'll be dishing out, since you won't get as much mana recovery from the loss of spell crit %.

Given how awesome the Insightful Earthstorm Diamond is (12 int + chance to restore mana) for paladins (from logs i've checked, the proc seems to average out from anywhere between 15-25mp5), im really not a fan of helmets that don't have a meta-gem slot.

The engineering epic healing helm (Justicebringer 2000 Specs ) is a bit better than these, so I likely won't be replacing my goggles with these. That being said, these are great for a non-engineer.

Dropped for us last night too. Since I was using the Bracing Earthstorm Diamond (https://www.wowhead.com/tbc/item=25897) in my T4 helm, the only thing I lost was the 2% threat reduction, which I didn't need to begin with. I gemmed the new helm with a Royal Tanzanite (https://www.wowhead.com/tbc/item=30603), a Luminous Noble Topaz (https://www.wowhead.com/tbc/item=24060) and a Teardrop Living Ruby (https://www.wowhead.com/tbc/item=24029). Along with the Honor Hold glyph (https://www.wowhead.com/tbc/item=29189), this helm is an upgrade in everyway over the T4, especially since the set bonus is worthless (though I still have it due to legs and gloves).

I know not a lot of people will agree with me but this helmet is much better for raw healing output.

As has been noted the metagem alone is worth between 15-25 (lets say 20 mp5 average). Soceted for mp5, with a 4int,2mp5 gem, you have a tradeoff between the Sha'tar badge healing helm and this helm of (going for the gem slot bonus, +18 heal, 9heal, 2mp5, 4int, 2mp5):

34mp5 versus 4 mp5.
0 spell crit versus 1.4% spell crit
70 heal versus 113 heal

Sha'tar will give you 30 more mp5 and this helm will give you 43 more + heal and 1.4% more spell crit.

Being generous and assuming that you are gaining the maximum amount of mp5 from spell crit (constant spamming of max rank holy light which gives about 11 mp5),

The comparison becomes 19mp5 versus 43 heal, ore about 2.25 heal for every 1 mp5 given up.

Of course the mp5 only matters in long fights, which is mainly only raiding and on successful boss fights. You also get less stats on the sha'tar helm versus this helm.

Considering most paladins like to top trash healing charts and 1-2 min raid wipe attempts, I'm guessing most paladins will still go for this helm since short-battles are 80% of what you do.

This helm dropped for us last night. It is not the most beautiful helm in the world (especially since my hair seems to cut through it strangely). I will miss my Insightful Earthstorm Diamond in my T4 but I did get a bit more raw +heal out of it after gemming it.

However if we can get Mojo- Mender's Mask to drop I will definitely be using it over this. I will gladly give up the armor and spell crit for mp5 and more healing.

How does this Helmet compare to Brighthelm of Justice (https://www.wowhead.com/tbc/item=30048) ?

Gemmed with 18 Healing, 9 Healing 2 MP5, 9 Healing 4 Int this helmet gets 131 Healing and 2 MP5, compared to 101 healing and 14 MP5 on the Brighthelm of Justice.
The question is, whether 12 Mp5 outweigh 30 Healing and 1.4% Spellcrit.

As of patch 2.2.3 I honestly believe that this mask has a bugged drop rate.

I've killed the bear boss probably 8 times all up, and i've seen it drop 6 times (dropped fury and those hunter shoulders the other times). I know that my guild has seen it drop at least once when I wasnt there.

Is it just me?

You know, there's all this theory crafting and I think we're missing a major factor of this helm.

This is what trolls dress their gimps in. No, seriously. Do you not see the ball-gag / stick-gag / whatever attachment? Yeah. I don't know about you, but I'm hiding the helm on this one.

I just got this and I have the Vengeful helm with 22+ Healing gem (From magisters terrence quest) and the +12 int and 300 mana on cast meta gem.

Am not sure if this is worth taking over a helm with a meta since that 300 mana chance on a cast is just sexy. Anyone else using this over a meta gemmed helmet?

Got this last night as an upgrade to Mask of Pennance, other paladin in the raid was good enough to pass since he had the S2 helm. :D

2 Luminous Noble Topaz and 1 Royal Nightseye gets this an impressive, 175 heaing. (175= 86 base + 27 gems +9 socket bonus + 35 Glyph + 18 from SA & divine int.)

Shame about the lack of mp/5, but despite the illumination nerf spell crit is still valuable and mp/5 can easily be found elsewhere.

Just be sure to check hide helm in the interface (and/or itemrack ) because even for ZA this thing is super ugly.

I got this mask for first boss in ZA i had season 2 healing helm and got this because i was the only pally in the group i walk around with this helm shwoing and people always say my head looks like a block of wood

blizzerd should of made a set 4 this cause a wood helmet doesnt really go with anything else in this game, so either make a wood class armor blizzard or change the look

Amazing helm. Bad thing for me though is that this dropped 2 days after I bought the S3 helm and since no other pala needed it i took it. What a waste of 1875 arena points!

goes with the new badge gear btw, the lack of mp5 is made up by that gear, which has truck loads of mp5 and no crit, so the ZA gear has heaps of crit and no mp5 combined makes awesome combo.

engineering goggles are still much better: more crit, healing, and has a meta gem slot which really helps

I got it last night, I was using T4. I'm now wearing this, and I added the HH glyph (35 healing, 12 spell dmg and 7 mp5) along with a Teardrop Living Ruby (18 healing and 6 spell dmg), Brilliant Dawnstone (8 intellect) and Dazzling Talasite (4 intellect and 2 mp5). I think it looks awesome, although alot of people tell me it looks like crap, I don't care, I'm the one wearing it. >.<
It's an imba mask, and a good upgrade, even when I was using T4.
