Ferocious Yeti are a good farming for this one, is also good to look for these on stranglethorn beasts.

seriously.. there never ending dropping! ive killed 30 mobs now not a single heavy hide. im killing raptors in stv.. just hopping on em its so annoying

I've tried the gorillas, shadowcats, tigress...even basilsks. nothing! :(

I found that Feral Scar Yeti's (LVL 43-45) in Faralas will drop heavy hide's about 50-70% of the time.

Change that, after killing more it was like 10% it drops a higher rate of thick hides that heavy.

yes yettis are a good source of leather always seeming to drop better leather than others of the same level but I would really like to know what beasts drop more HIDES, it is so easy to skin leathers and purchase them at the ah but why are there always so few hides to be skinned and so few at the ah. today in my realm it was 15g for 20 hides and 1-2g for 20 leathers.

I got a decent drop rate off the raptors in STV tonight...not the higher level ones like lashtails but the low level ones like those you have to kill for the first part of raptor mastery quest...hope this helps.

Got 3 drops out of 40 kills of mountain lions in The Headland, Hillsbrad.

Very good tip. After killing nearly 30 raptors in STV I went up to the Uplands in Hillsbrad Foothills, the first two kills on the Hulking Mountian Lions gave me Heavy Hides. Unfortunately I only needed two so I didn't spare the time to test out their drop rate, but so far they are the best to farm it from that I have seen.

Those are the levels you can skin and get those from.

Best place that ive found is SLV killing the elder monkeys i found about 10in 1 hour..might just have been lucky but they seemed to drop about every 10-15

im over 30 stacks of heavy leather from killing raptors in stv and i have 9 heavy hide, very bad drop rate, lol. i figured it was the mobs i'm killing so i got on here to see what would drop them slightly better

For those of you looking for Heavy Hides still, the far western edge of Feralas has Ironfur bears, which actually drop them reather frequently. I haven't been there very long and every four or five bears or so have dropped one.

I figured all mobs who normally skin to 100%, and not 50% heavy, 50% medium, has a slight chance of being skinned to . Same with and .

But silly enough, it is true they are rare.

Heavy Hide is so goddamn vital to most of the patterns from LW 170-200 that its really ridiculous its this hard to find. You'd think most creatures would have at least a 1% chance of dropping it. Anyway, this is why my lvl 42 hunter just got to LW 190... and the next 10 pts will be long....

I'm a level 60 Hunter, and my leatherworking hasn't progressed past 200 because of Heavy Hides. So, when I hit 60, I farmed them off of the Mangy Silvermanes in The Hinterlands, it's bad, but I don't mind since I have nothing else to do ;P

It's about a 1 - 8 chance to get one.

I have been having the same issues finding Heavy Hide, however I stumbled across a good source in Stranglethorn Vale. The Snapjaw Crocolisks around the Lake Nezferiti (sp) near the Venture Mining Co. were dropping them at a surprisingly good rate. I farmed for about an hour and got abut 6 heavy hides and 4 medium hides.

I've read all the posts here, and although the crocs were a good suggestion, the drop rate just wasn't there. I did, however, get 5 hides in under a half an hour killing Stranglethorn Tigress and Shadowmaw Panthers. It might just be a fluke, but I seemed to be getting them too often for it to be. Hope this helps.

Ok, so this lists what drops it, revealing nothing drops heavy hide very frequently.

But most leather workers are skinners or are good friends with one.

So what gives heavy hide for skinning?

It's so rare yet so necessary for getting leatherworking up to 200. They're so expensive on auction so the best next recipe is Dusky Bracers for 16 heavy leather a pop, or Barbaric Harness if you grab some iron buckles.

Just a recent tip for low level Leatherworkers.... from 180-220 when you are likely farming Heavy Hides, I found the best drop is from Starving Bonepaws in Desolace. 4% drop rate(though it feels like more), and they are in packs of 5 and low health. They have relatively low respawn timer. I am a 40 hunter and just farm out the basilisks and scorpions while I wait for the pack to respawn. Unless you are level 60, this is probably your fastest way through this rough patch.

I don't know if this is pure luck, coincidence or concrete, but after farming mobs in Dustwallow Marsh, I've found that the mob level range of 39 - 42 is the best to farm these.

The crocodiles & dragonkin outside Onxyia's Lair are a good source of Heavy Leather and Thick Leather, sometimes dropping 2 x on a skin, also, I had a luck streak of getting 3 x heavy hides in a row at one point.

Don't bother farming mobs level 36-38, I managed about 2 per hour at this range, but 39-42, I easily got 6-8.
