are scopes usable on ranged weapons? sound like no, but i would like to check.

The entire point of a scope is to attach it to a ranged weapon...that's what bows and guns are, hence the description.

I made a deadly blunderbuss gun and a standard scope and it won't let me put the scope on the gun, I get "you can't do that" Any ideas why?

These are a really cheap performance increase. I'd recommend any levelling Hunter to stock up on several of these (likely ~10s on your AH) and just throw them on your ranged weapon every time you get an upgrade.

Of course, if there are cheap Accurate Scope on your AH instead they would be preferable, but I've found those scopes to be heavily marked up on the AH for multiple gold despite being a vendor recipe and only ~30s worth of material.
