Timber is listed as a rare (and has the silver dragon around his icon). However, he's supposedly on a 45-minute timer, and appears to spawn fairly regularly within that time frame; I've only been there once and not seen him. (Not counting the times that I'd just killed him—or just seen someone else kill him—that is.)

I solo'd him as a level 7 hunter. He was easy.

I didn't worry about the adds at all, all I did was run around and keep him on me so he didn't leash. Just arcane shot + serpent sting and ran toward Brewnall Village until his two adds leashed.

If youre trying to tame Timber and youre in the same level be carefull, hes guarded by two other wolves that are around lvl 8-9. it took me three deaths to figure out how to tame him. start with taking one of his "bodyguard" wolves out then the second one, then its just to tame Timber. I hope that this will help young hunters that wants Timber.

I have a 41 Alliance hunter and a 10 Tauren hunter. I got Humar, Echeyakee and Broken Tooth on my Ne, so when I rolled an alt, I figured I would try and tame a "diffucult to reach" pet on my Tauren. It was a choice between the Teldrassil nightsabers or Timber, since my NE had all cats, figure I'd go after a Worg that I remembered in Dun Morogh. So I set out after lvl 10 and headed out from Thunder Bluff to Dun Morogh, after a VERY LONG and death filled journey I made it to Dun Morogh. He spawns on the little island on the right in the center of the ice covered lake. He travels with 2 lv 8 wolves. After taming a nearby wolf, I sent it to attack one gaurd and I aimed and took it out. Was bout at 60% health and pet was about 55%, so I retreated and headed towards the little water opening in the lake and Timber and his last gaurd gave up chase. Repeated this on the 2nd gaurd and TImber was alone. Abandoned pet and went as far away as I could within "Tame Range". Started taming him and got him. Hearthstoned back home and I have a nice pet. Sure it's alot easier to just get the Rake outside of Thunder Bluff, but what's the fun in that? For those Horde hunter who want a different pet then those common around your zone, Timber's and excellent choice. if you don't have the patience to go through Barrens, Ashenvale, Darkshore, Dustwallow Swamp, Theramore and Dun Morogh, and still want a cool lookin pet, I recommend the Teldrassil cats. Happy hunting!

If u wanna tame him at lv 10 than u should kill all the other wolfs first. This is how I did it:
1. Kill all winter wolfs.
2. Kill one of his 2 guards (starving winter wolf)and run away as fast as u can
3. Kill his other guard the same way. Timber is the only wolf left.
4. Tame Timber.

So there I was... me level 10, cleared the island, and Timber's 2 guards (died in the process) I ran back... sweet, he's still patting by himself... so i pulled him back, and starting taming... 10 secs left... 5 seconds left BAM some %^&*!@# druid pops outta stealth and oneshots Timber... wtf...

Yeah, so... anyone know exactally how long it taks for him to respawn?

The Cords For Timber Are: 34,41 Right In The Middle Of The Big Island On Iceflow Lake. Got Him On My Dwarf Hunter Right At Level 10, He Is Solid White And Has +5% To Armor. Now On My Long Journey To Tririsfal Glades To Get Ressan The Needler For My 2nd Pet.

reasonably high dps for a wolf(dunno if any higher than other wolves though..). easy to tame at low lvl for alliance and a good tank. looks cool too:p worth taming imo

yeah, i noticed that his 'bodyguards' are the only 2 starving winter wolves im not sure if they keep 'enrage' though.if you attack the timber and run you'll see the starving winter wolves front paws eventually light on fire it scared the shiz out of me cause i was like wtf is that lol i am a lvl 17 hunter and was suprised that i have never seen enrage lol

and if anyone still needs help with timber your best bet would be a least lvl 12 but im sure you can even get him at lvl 10 if your careful.

he is lvl 10 and spawns about every 25 minutes id killed or not found as said.he is on the bigger island in the middle of the frozen lake.(as also said)and for a hint no matter what the two wolves that follow him always attack if you attempt to tame/kill Timber. when i went to tame him i didnt have to kill any of the wolves if any of you are night elf hunters,use eagle eye in the middle of the island hes very easy to spot he bigger than the other wolves around him.also he is VERY common there is not one time i went there and didnt see him. the spotsited on the map with the most yellow is exactly where he is. i tamed timber about 2 hours ago fairly easy without having to kill the other wolves. what i did was tamed him and ran and jumped in the water were the ice broke i suppose for fishing and swam to the other side the wolves wont follow you past there.

i had a friend who had this wolf and i wanted one soooo bad. I was lvl 18 at the time and he took me to get the wolf who was lvl 10. I named him Bandit and he stayed with me for a long time i got him up to lvl 21 and he glitched and ran away on me. I almost cried. im now lvl 41 and im still thinking about bandit and if i want to go back and get another timber wolf. he did have special attacks he had furious howl and dash rank 1. he was a faithful and loyal companion and i do often think about him. ;_;

yea as wierd as it may seem hunters can get very attatched to thier pets even though theyre not real they still need to be fed and trained and stuff like that. and i have gotten very close to alot of my pets exspecially king Bangalash HE SAVED MY LIFE COUNTLESS TIMES

I tamed him at level 10 also and have had him exclusively ever since. The main difference cosmetically between Timber and other wolves are that he never howls, and he doesnt have fleas. He's been a stoic companion and really shines once you train him up and add the other wolf talents such as furious howl and dash.

My other favorite, on another hunter build is the GhostPaw Alpha. They look cool, howl, and has fleas like most other wolves - great companion and is a favorite even with my guild mates.

Its the best pet that a hunter can have when he gets 10lvl.Timber a rare wolf seen allways at the Iceflow Lake.If u go there and u don't find him then he is patroling the area with 2 guards(wolfs).I tamed him easyly when i killed his guards :D

yeah, most of these rare spawns aren't really worth camping anymore, but you aren't gonna get another pet like this for a long time. if you can't get this guy pick up one of the ratty white wolves they stop making those around lv 28.

I just got Timber as a gift for My mother. Her Blood Elf hit 10 lastnight so I helped her get from Under City to Dun Morogh. Died three times along the way. Finally got to Timber, he killed her once then when we got back some idiot gnome had killed him -_- Waited about 30 minutes for Timber to respawn again. My Mom was ready to give up thinking he wouldn't spawn since most rares have a long respawn time. BUT! With the help of my Night Elf, She was able to tame him! :D So very glad.

The pet was worth it. It's the only chance to get a white worg at that level. :3

Just tamed timber. Went on my horde lv 20 hunter and gettign there wasn't too hard. I died once because of rez sickness, and then I laid down a freeze trap and began taming. Timber got stuck in the trap and his bodyguards pummelled me and my 0% durability. Then Timber was mine and we killed his bodyguards.

Lol, so the moral of the story is to never trust a white worg.

and if you are expecting "better than average loot" because he has a silver portrait, you are mistaken. i was hoping for a decent green but all he dropped were some whit cloth bracers. BOO!

On Shadowsong, I attempted taming it at 70 since I didn't even know about it until 50, and I didn't feel like raising it up at the time. At 70, it's a cakewalk to start raising a pet since you can just grind lv 62 mobs in Zangarmarsh to give quick exp. Timber seems to be on a very fast respawn timer, so you can keep killing/taming to your heart's content.

I was on a trip to Shadowlabs to help my friend get his key fragment, and hopefully get the Sonic Spear for myself. I decided that this'd be a good time to get a new pet, so I went to tame Timber, since I like white worgs. On my way, I saw a 22 NElf hunter an a 20 gnome mage. I was already at Timber taming, half way done, then the mage uses a quick frostbolt to take it from me, and then the other hunter tried taming. The gnome whispered me AFTER frostbolting, saying "Don't take timber, this hunter's been waiting weeks to get it". Since I was there first, it was my tame. Since they tried stealing it, I critically shot the wolf (3500 damage) so they couldn't get it. About 10 minutes of failure at shadowlabs, I went back and got it.

For those who want to tame it at low levels, you may need help. He has two wolves, level 8-9 guarding him. They hit pretty hard when being hit by three, so have one person pull one of the wolves and you tame timber. The wolves will go after the distraction while Timber gently pats you til being tamed. Once tamed, he's just as strong as any level 10 wolf with no hunter modifications.

Hello, I am with the horde, and I cant make it in to get the Timber, and the Gorefang spawns are 3 hours or more. i've been camping Gorefang for hours. Please tell me what is the eazy route
to get to Wetlands, for the Timber. I am lvl 13 troll hunter.

Tamed him recently at level 10 as my first pet. Taught me:

He looks just like the Prowler that roams the Eastvale logging camp in Elwyn, but he has cold resistance 7 which I'm not sure the Prowlers have.

When I tamed Timber I used the little lake nearby to help take out the bodyguard wolves. Would stand near the lake and kill one bodyguard and then jump in, since wolves can't swim they'd drop out of combat after a bit. Repeat until all the bodyguards and other wolves around him were dead, then tamed him.

Only trouble is if someone else comes along and kills him before you can tame... grrr.

Gorgeous wolf! Learned about him today and was watching him for about an hour and a half while I lvl'd up to 10 and just knew someone was going to come along and kill him. I even had to go all the way back to Darnassus to do my pet quest, praying no one would kill him the entire time I was gone since I didn’t know his respawn is so fast at the time, and he was still there when I came back.

First time I tried to tame, I died after killing one of his guards because the three of them were too much (by the way, jumping into the lake will save you if you are overpowered by the two mobs and Timber since they can't swim. Just know that you can't shoot at them with ranged shot while in the water; you'll have to wait until they run off and just try again after your health is back up) and I wasn't close enough to run into the lake in time before they got me.

Came back to rez and lo and behold, every last freakin' wolf on the little frozen island, including Timber, had just been killed off by some jerk high lvl player who was headed to the instance nearby. It happened so fast that I suspect whoever did it had been watching me and decided it would be *fun* to kill off Timber while I ran back to rez. And of course this would finally happen after I'd been watching Timber for over an hour and then finally get to tame him. Ugh. At least his spawn time is fast.

Waited about fifteen minutes and Timber was back. This time I trained a filler pet boar and used it to kill off his two "guards" one by one. Again, jumping in the lake worked wonders. By himself Timber wasn't a challenge to tame.

Awesome pet with a gorgeous coat. Seems to run a bit slow but he’s not so slow that it really hinders anything. Have gotten a bunch of compliments on him already. :D

On a side note: Thinking I might like a pet that is better at tanking than a wolf, I tamed Bjarn the polar bear at level 12, used him for a little while, and then decided I like Timber better (personal preference but just thought I'd let you know).

Hey, it's me the crazy BloodElf hunter. Made level 11, packed my bags, and ran from FairBreeze to Silvermoon to Undercity to Tirisfal to Western Plaguelands(died 4 times) to Hillsbrad(died 1 time) to Arathi(died 2 times) to Loch Modan(died 2 times) to Dun Modr(died 1 time). Then I ran to the lake and put my armor back on. I found Timber tamed another wolf, used it to clear the other wolves and Timber's cohorts(jumped in the lake too, just like the previous post). Then I released the regular wolf, tamed Timber, named him Winter to confuse people, and hearthed back to Silvemoon! Took about a hour.

The Easiest Method of Travel:

Die in Undercity. Don't Rez.
Run to Dun Morogh.
Get to the Spirit Healer.
Logout, Login, Rez.
Tada! You're there, and with only one intentional death. Your gear thus isnt in that bad of a condition. Now, the rest is up to you, such as avoiding the mountaineers and taming your mark.
Lastly, make good use of that hearthstone and hightail it out of that lame dwarven hellhole!

The first time I traveled to Dun Morogh, it was for Bjarn. The second time, for Timber, because that wolf is freakin seksi. The first run down I did alive, and died about 60 billion times through no fault of my own besides being low level. It was slow going, as I didnt have Aspect of the Cheetah yet, being level 18. The second trip I used this method and got there in half the time (because you run faster as a spirit), and died only one time! Hell yeah! Saved me a ton of grief, as well as gold, considering my gear only suffered 10% durability loss.

I tamed Timber as my first pet hes pretty nice and using the tips on this page catching him was easy, but i dumped him as soon as i hit lvl 12 to tame Bjarn so i could teach him Timber's bite rank 2

i agree with reignofchaosfury i get bjarn now often but i had timber as one of my NE hunter's first few pets hes pretty good but lemme just say he cant solo hogger as bjarn did for me. if u really like wolves and dont wanna get bjarn tame a few wolves till u get furious howl then learn it, tame this guy and hes almost as strong as bjarn but for the record i like bjarn because of his diet which he eats ANYTHING! including spider legs, eggs, cookies, ect...

Killed him today with my pally, he's guarded by 2 other wolfs, so he's pretty hard to solo at lvl 9. I was thinking "He's rare, I should get some decent gear off this guy". Well, after dieing about 10 times, I finally killed him, and he droped nothing but Silver-lined Bracers]. Needless to say, I was a little pissed.

Timber's stats looks just the same as a regular wolf mob, attack speed is 2.0 , and the rake has 1.2

hes ok... personaly i ALWAYS gte bjarn cuz hes a friggin polar bear... no timber cannot compare to the rake so i dont know why ppl keep bringing it up... by all means tame him but if u have semi decent armor for a lvl 10 u should be fine just taming him even with an add on... bjarn is a white rare bear lvl twelve here si the link... Bjarn ... and dont say just got tame mangeclaw (who is a level 11 polar bear) because you cant... he has a ravage attack that knocks you down and interupts your tame, and even if u manage to tame mangeclaw that ability doesnot roll over, so bjarn is the way to go for any hopefull hunters in dun morogue just looking out i know pretty much every pet up till lvl 25 so message me if u have any questions...

Currently I have a 25 troll hunter after sneaking past all the guards at level 20 I found timber and am currently using him at level 25 he is a good pet and has high armor I have never been able to pull agg off him once he gets going and he attacks fast enough to do a decent mount of damage on his own.

Timber had negative training points when you tamed him because he came with bite 2. So, it as if you paid for bite 2. Just move him up as usual, and you will get out of the hole.

Man I finally got this guy at lvl 11. My first pet. I just took out the lone wolves then killed off his followers and got him alone. I almost died right when I tamed him because a wolf snuck up behind me but he took him out quick so. He saved my life right when I got him..WOOO! lol

Have had Timber for a while now and he is 38. Very pleased with him and tamed him again for another hunter on another server. If you follow progressions with wolf abilities, Timber can learn all he needs and keeps up with my partner's cat. You need to tame a coyote pack leader, then mastive to increase his abilities. Will let you know the other talents you can train him in soon

Timber is the first available Frostwolf that can be tamed.

My new Draenei Hunter tamed him last night. She's a pale Draenei with white hair, so this wolf looks really nice as her pet (they match). I'm really obsessive about having things look perfect to me. That is the main reason I traveled alone all the way to Dun Morogh to tame him as soon as I hit level 10.

I had a cat as a temporary pet to clear a path and kill Timber's guards. As soon as both of the guards were dead, I abandoned my pet, cast Gift of the Naaru, and started taming. Got him, then hearthed back to Azuremyst to continue questing.

Obviously , The Rake is better but Wolfs are average in everything and cats are attack speed and damage . So you cant really compare them because they are different beast Types

Timber is easiest using a range weapon or throwing. He has about 2-4 wolfs around him at all time. Even when i pulled i got 1 extra wolf fighting. I don't recommend for lvls 10 or under jus 11 or up. You'll have a tough time and he isn't worth it. It's more of a waste then profitable due to his leadership.

He is a Rare wolf, I found him on the island in Iceflow lake I believe, he was lvl 10. It does say he's a rare inside his bio here but not on the last page with all the other wolves. Not a big thing but I noticed cause I looked him up after I tamed him and noticed it didn't list him as rare. He's alright, but I think the others are right he's nothing real special, and he does seem to run funny. Anyway, I do plan to find a better one soon enough, kinda disappointed I released my other wolf for him and he wasn't that great. Looks cool otherwise though. And I'm sorry, but who's Rake? Another wolf or something else, a 1.2 attack speed would be pretty sweet, unless he got nerfed, I don't like the thought of that.

I just got him as a dump pet before i get The Rake. He is indeed the first frostwolf in the game. Timber looks great, but he seems to move very slow. This shouldn't be a problem in the next patch, because all pets will have the same movement speed then.

Level 10 hunter passing through and thought I would check out if he is spawned. Yep! Killed one of his pack, died. Ran back. Killed the second. Died. Ran back. Tried to tame him but forgot to abandon previous pet. Abandoned. Finally got a tame on him and.... YES! Got him. And rabies. So I'll be dead soon.

Confirmed, 45min respawn timer. I wanted to learn the <Bite-2> skill, and thought this would be fun to have a rare spawn pet too. I already have Skoll on my other non-HC server. Remember this is a <SilverDragon> elite-10, not just a regular Wolf-10, be mindful if you're only a lvl-10 Hunter.

Followed advice and carefully cleared out ALL other wolves on the island, plus a couple "fast running" wandering wolves that seem to show up out of nowhere. Then left with only Timber and the two 'Starving Wolf' escorts, pulled out just one escort at a time, killed each. Once you kill one, of course the other two are also chasing, so you gotta run far to release threat. Feels like almost the edge of the frozen field. Then repeat with 2nd escort.

Then dismiss whatever throwaway pet you have, and pull 'Timber' to tame. At lvl-14 I think he bit me down to about 60% health or so, forgot to take note. At level 10-13, you better watch your percent-health left, and compare with how much of the tame-timer is left. Hopefully your tame is down half way at least, before you get lower than 60% health. Otherwise I'd abort just to be safe.

These instructions are extra careful, because <Hardcore> server, so you die forever. On regular non-HC servers, feel free to be sloppy, lol. Good hunting and good luck! <3
