69 hunter kited successfully. Didnt need pet. I used the follwing kiting path: starting from where you find him, then follow the path to eco-dome midrealm (dont enter eco-dome), follow path around ot the left over towards area 52 and if you haven't killed him by the time you reach Area52, follow the path to your left before actually entering Area52. Very little adds along this route to give you any bother. Stay out of his reach and use aspect of cheetah all the way. Seems to be immune to concuss and freeze traps did not work on him for me. Used acrane and serpent sting to grind him down.

Soloed as 70 warlock, he is immune to fear and snares, just Drain Tanked him down, at like 50% he summons little rock minions that hurt, just AOE'd fear and kept my eye on the prize, Had to use HS and a super healing pot though! GL!

Solo'd as a 70 feral druid. I ended up going bear form and slowly backing him up down the road closest to him all the while dpsing with maul and mangle. When I kept moving, the adds he spawned did not aggro on me, they just sat in the middle of the road. (might have just been bugged though)

A couple of side notes:
Apex hit me (with 11k armor (53% mitigation) in bear) for around 200 so it was very managable and could heal through it.

He was not immune to Bash nor Cyclone. I did not try roots as I only needed Cyclone to get heal off.

He does a Thunder Clap type move that slows your movement speed (might have done something else as well, but i can't recall). So if you are trying to simply kite him around, try not to get to close.

Lastly, I cannot confirm this as I did not engage his adds, but other druids have told me that his adds are rootable.

Soloed as a 70 hunter. Kited down from Duro to Sunfury Hold, then down around past Coruu.

Easily done with Cheetah, no really hard mobs to path around.

Easy with the Fetish of the Sand reaver. 70 Lock. Incinerate/Destro. Had VW tank with festish up and then poped soul shatter. VW was able to tank the whole fight with those two de-agros till he was dead. :)

Can be solo as Demo Warlock. Dont need to kite, just tank and spank Apex.

Coordinate is correct, note however he does roam about a little so you can wait for him to get nearer to the road so you can pull him safely.

(Pull him to the road, inside there have stealth mobs) Dots him up ... heal Felguard... renew Dots as needed. When spawn adds ... get your Felguard to hit each of them at least once (he spawn 3 adds, they have about 1k plus hp each, Felguard does cleave so if the adds lose about 1mm hp from the cleave you are fine .. switch back to Apex, kill him first).

Note: Apex does not hit hard on your Felguard, you can Drain Life him if you see you Felguard HP is enuf (3K plus). Dmg increase when the adds spawn.

Can also be solo'd by a mage, like most stuff.

Sick your ele on him, put shield on, crack trinket, smack him with some 3k frostbolts, blink, more frostbolts untill he's in your face, hit cooldown, shield, pull out ele, frostnova adds, blink, more frostbolts, fireblast ,cone of cold, should be done with him, finish adds, sit, drink, /yawn.

No fear, no kite, no dots, just power.

He can't be kited very far since he'll evade and run back. Also, he spawns various adds at roughly 80% and 50%, maybe more later (I couldn't solo him). The spawns can be feared, the the mob himself not.

It's also impossible to kite him across the bridge, since he'll evade in the middle of it and run back. Perhaps there's a trick, but I had him dotted and did heal myself, so aggro was definitely there.

Soloed as a 70 shadowpriest. Just blasted him with everything I had. He is immune to fear, but his adds are not. So I managed to fear them 3 times, while nuking. After he was dead I just went out of aggro range and adds dissapeared. Returned and looted. Piece of cake.
Good location is near the bridge and road at 51,70.

Respawn timer is rather fast. He respawned while I wrote this. :)

Level 68 shadow priest solo'd. Was a very challenging kill at my level. No potions or anything like that. Did drop shadowform to heal for the first time in the Outlands though. He hits for ~500 damage on cloth.

Soloed as Destro Lock, had a fun time kiting him around Area 52, all the way from 52,68
pulled with shadow bolt, ran like hell while i constantly threw CoA on him, and when Shadowfury CD was done i stunned him with it
The Thunderclap made it even easier to solo because he had to stop while using it, more time for me :D

Soloed this as a 70 fury warrior, but I did die at the end.

Popped most of my cooldowns (Recklessness, Death Wish, Bladefist's Breadth), and brought him down fast, because I read somewhere up that he becomes weaker the more his health goes down. So I tried to get him to low HP asap.

Near the end I used Last Stand (got my last points in prot, very handy). When his adds came I feared those and spam-executed Apex, then looted him fast.
Then I used a pot but my Last stand ran out, so I died because of the adds. I think if I had waited till Last Stand ran out and popped the pot right after that, I could've survived.

I soloed this as a 70 Enhancement Shaman. Dropped an Earth Elemental totem to do the tanking. Proceeded to DPS Apex, throwing the occasional heal on the Earth Elemental. I needed a mana pot but otherwise it was pretty easy.

I soloed it as a 70 holy priest, but it wasn't easy =P Main thing is to keep the little spawns feared as much as possible and make sure you have a dot on him at all times. DPS potions might have helped too.

really easy to solo as 70 druid. Use cat form to do initial DPS, switch to bear and start mangle/maul/swipe/ demo shout. DONT use frenzied rejuv until you are at around 1/3 health. If you get really low, switch to caster, barkskin and use a regrowth or max rank HT.

I was able to kite him all the way back to Eco-Dome Midrealm, he is immune to roots. Just dot and run, dot and run. He moves pretty quickly given his size, so if you don't have (ghost/travel/cheetah/persuit of justice/etc) he might be more difficult to take this way.

Solo'd as a 70 Affliction Warlock. Send in VW, full dots, keep your instants in reserve till you pull aggro (and you will)...nuke away...(soul fire was actually useful)...shadow bolt, shadow bolt, shadow bolt...pull aggro...Sac the VW, refresh dots...use all your instants, AOE fear the adds...Drain Life till he's dead. Be sure to SS yourself, just in case his adds come back and you can't get away so that you don't have to corpse run.

Soloed as a 70 Ele Shaman, I am pretty sure that most classes should have a trick in their bag that will allow them to solo this guy.

For myself an Earth Elemental and Lightning Bolt Spam did the trick.

Soloed him as lvl 70 prot warrior. I have one epic and that's the Violet Signet. Easymode, i just sundered him to 5 stacks, then spammed shield slam and devastate and used trinket + shield block as often as possible. When he had 2 adds, i feared them and just kept hitting him.. had to use Last Stand and i died at adds, but at least i got him. ;) took like 5 min :P

Easily done as a 43/11/7 Paladin with about 600 Spelldmg. Judging Righteousness/Holy Shock/Consecration whenever they are up, then a Shield/Divine Favor heal when needed and he is no problem at all. The consecration takes care of the small adds.

Protection paladin can do this no problem. As the little elites spawn, its gets even better due to more Reckoning procs. Just alternate SoL/JoL and you'll be fine.

Easy as a hunter... just kite him over the bridge using serpent sting and arcane shot. over the bridge... round some stone circles and back over the bridge...

He's quite fast so use cheetah.

It can easily be kited as a hunter. Run arround in circles so he doesn't get too far away from his spawn and eventually evade.
I did it by the road just north of the bridge everyone is talking about. No mobs there! You can easily keep both Apex and the adds at a distance with aspect of the cheetah.

41/0/20 arcane - frost mage, soloed. You're basically running the entire time poping everything you;ve got. I killed him with about 200 hp left and used a major health pop as well. As he gets smaller and divides he gets alot slower so it's easier to run and dps.

Do we really need so many "Solo'd this as..." replies? We get it, he can be solo'd, congratulations. Once you get the crystal you gotta go back down south to the tower and use it near the orb, which is at the top of the tower next to the Archmage. Tower is 58, 86.

He is IMMUNE to concussive shot, freezing trap, and wingclip. but, he's easy regardless. as a 70 marks/ survival hunter, i was able to mend pet and keep him near full even with an add on him, atleast one of the adds will surely aggro to you when mend pet ticks, but you just trap him and keep shooting, very easy at 70.

soloed him on my 70 sealed fate rogue. deadly poison on both weapons. i couldn't escape adds and i had no more pots. popped two 200 ap trinkets + SnD and bladeflurry. just got lucky with dodges after evasion faded... but the adds killed me. envenom really does it though, better than eviscerate when set up imo.

Hmm, i have the quest, i look for him, find him, kill him...BUT didn't get any crystal...?
Anyone else having this problem?

EDIT- Lol, my cousin was in a party with me and she most of switched us to raid, so that's why i didn't get the crystal.
She left while i was making another attempt of getting the crystal and it was only then that i saw the message of raid.

Did it as a lvl 70 prot warrior. I suggest you switch to def stance, when all 3 adds are there. For shieldblock and revenge will be up most of the time. Best thing is to wait, till all 3 adds are there and then pop intim shout. Just had to use a pot and ran after i killed and looted Apex.

Managed to solo as a 41/20/0 affliction lock. Started near the path at 51,67. Sent the void walker in, dot him up with UA, all instant dots, and spam a few shadowbolts. When the vw is about 50% or so health and starts to lsoe agro, run down the hill and tell the vw to follow. Keep the DoTs on him as you run. Whenever an instant DoT is up, recast. When he starts to hit on you, sac the vw for shield. Keep running, use Healthstone as you're soing so. Paused briefly to fast-summon another vw and sac'd again.

If you keep moving, the adds don't follow.

Just did this with my 70 Frost mage.
I made my Elemental attack Apex while I ran off to the side of him. By the time my Ele hit him I was far enough away to volley Agro between me and my Elemental. I had to eventually pop cold snap due to the little mini apex's spawn and then rinse repeat with the elemental volley. I used my elemental's distance nova to stop the mini Apex spawn.

Frost Nova does not work on Apex. It works on the crumblers he spawns.

Just solo'd as a 70 resto Shaman. My fire elemental basically kept the first add off me while I just dps'd him down, which would have been even faster if I were still elemental-spec. I did have to pull out all my good tricks--Mana Tide, Bloodlust, and Earth Shield, but nothing unusual. I had to do a big heal toward the end, but basically he wasn't too much of a problem. Not hard at all for me.

To all the people who think they are having trouble getting it to drop:

Make sure that you haven't killed Apex on an earlier occasion. The quest status will not change once you loot Apex's Crystal Focus. I forgot that I killed him and couldn't understand why the quest wasn't completed until I thoroughly went through my bags and found the drop.

solo'd this as an MM hunter. I can guess it wouldve been much easier as a BM hunter as i finished the fight with only 200 health left. just had pet engage Apex and DPSed im down. when he spawned his adds i just used traps to cc them and feigned death to lose them. Used no pots or bandages.

I have to say this is the EASIEST quest i've ever done for killing an elite.

I soled him as a 69 enh shaman with crappy green gear. I have almost 6k hps and was never in danger of dying.

I used my earth elemental and only had to heal him once, altho i think he would of been fine without the heal.
He lasted until the last add was killed and I still had 1/2 my mana. =)

Had some problem with him since he's not getting slowed by frostbolts, he is also immun to frost nova and freeze (elementals "frost nova").
Had to pop some cd's, ice block, elemental, Icy veins and cold snap.
Abit hard, but still doable.

Pretty well geared prot tank (good blues).

Simply outlasted them, didnt have to use anything special or any trinkets.

Just sat back and spammed Heroic strike, shield block, counter strike, and shield slam and he went down before i did.

Had about 2.5k hp left of 10.6k.

Reiterating Liandora's post....51,68 is the perfect spot to wait.

Cannot say if my experience was the norm; but if it was, loot Apex immediately after he goes down.....ignore all else to do so.

First time I just kept figting until all the mobs were dead.....went over to loot and the corpse had vanished....

Had to do it all over again...this time I looted him right after his death and got the crystal and only then took care of the rest.

Immune to all immobilizing effects, but still i can debuff with "slow" (top arcane spell). Drinked adepts, used flamecap, pyroblast, pow,ap,trink,pyro again, fireblast. Then kited along road filling up with fireblasts. at 20% just nuked.

I'm a 69 Prot Pally, mostly greens, and I solo'd him... barely.

Pulled him with Avenger's Shield. Seal of Light judged and resealed several times. Healed 3 times, bubble/bandage once, one health pot. I had to use Lay on Hands while fighting the spawns. I would've healed more, but I've gone mainly for stamina (for 10k hp) and not intellect so I only have 4k mana.

The fight took a while, and I couldn't mine the kill because Apex had respawned and was heading right for me. LOL!

Killed solo as an affliction lock, drain tank and let the VW aggro the adds... worked wondefully

Solo'd him as a 70 combat rogue, had to use my cooldowns, no pots though, vanished at the end and the little guys disappear.

This guy was easy as a 70 frost mage. 1400+ frost bolts non-crit just so you know what kind of damage I was doing. Popped my WE at the start used cold snap to pop a second. He doesn't seem to have a lot of hit points and he only got 2 adds off before I killed him. I was kiting him so one of them didn't even aggro to me. The other one got on my WE who was behind us. Not a hard guy to take down.

Had a couple of goes at soloing him, level 70 defensive (er...) NE warrior, first time had to lose him by running onto the bridge as he was just smacking me down. Switched gear the second time but that looked like it was going pear shaped too, 'til a passing Undead 'lock sent his voidy in and helped me out. Very civilised. Warriors, unless you're high dps if you can get two, do it with two. ;-)

Don't care if you soloed it or not, a destro lock can solo all 3 man quests. Just give coords...

Soloed as a lvl 70. Immune to chills, so I used water elemental at the start to take aggro, then kited him over the bridge with ice lance and fireblast, used cold snap to bring water elemental out again at the end to help finish him.

Soloed him being a warrior. It surely helped to dualwield a pair of Stellaris and some random blues from instances.
Yet I just nuked the giant and waited 3-4 secs after the minions spawned, feared them and kept nuking him.
Useless to say that yes, I got him down, tho the adds gave me the rest afterwards. Just run back asap and loot him - done.

you need some serious DPS to take this guy down alone. like all giants he spawns adds as his health goes and they get on you and add to his damage. I got to about 50% on a demo lock before his adds became too much for me and caused me to die.

solo'd as shadow priest

do all the standard buffs, and shield, wait for weaken debuff to expire.
starts the fight with blast, pain, flay, blast, shield, blast, repeat.

after 3 adds, psychic scream, focus on apex only, when he dead, instant loot and run till leave combat. xD

I also think you should just give the coords. I like to know where to find him getting something killed is never a problem (lvl69 shammy)

Lvl 70 resto shammy...soloed him without using any pots...blue/green equip! used 80% of my mana... at the end of the combat got full life and 20% mana!

Solo'd on my 70 pally (prot spec) without a single bubble, heal or pot - Blessing of Sanctuary, judge Seal of Light, keep up Seal of Crusader and Holy Shield all the time and you're gold.

...had to call in additional help on my rogue :)

51.69 big rock guy named Apex he spawns little rock guys as you kill him and then you use the item he drops by the Wizard guy at the Violet Tower at 58.86 on the orb behind him i did it with a mage both of us 70 pretty simple

Just solo'd as a 70 holy paladin, wore a shield and kept seal of wisdom on him and me all times - use my LoH on the adds and used a mana pot and one health pot (super) and it was.. fun! didn't take 5mins.

Pretty easy to solo as a lvl 69 hunter.

He is only a lvl 67 elite so that wasn't realy that difficult.

Just used the usual tactics:

Put up a trap on the spot you want him.
Pull him over the trap.
Prepare for the fight.
Send in pet.
Cast mend pet.
Cast bestial wrath.
Cast rapid fire.
Start normal shot rotation = steady shot + auto shot.

And thats all there is to it. Taking care off the adds is pretty easy. The first one that you aggro, you trap. The second one you can let bash on you and be a small tank. Then, when the third one comes you just feign death. Now the big one should be almost down and just finish the job.

I finish the boss with me at 76% HP and like 35% mana. My pet however was still at 96% HP so killing the adds afterwards was pretty easy aswell.

I had trouble finding him at first though. I looked here on allahazam and it said it was a level 71 humanoid so i was tracking humanoids. Didn't get any in that area so i was like "wtf" but then i saw a big rocky guy running and bingo. :p

so, i killed Apex, got the crystal, used it in tower... BLood elf shows up, then nothing anymore...saying something of key in Tempest keep, bugged or?

solod him as a 70 hunter very easy, just wait for him to walk near the road en begin to kite him then over the bridge, build up some agro send your pet in en keep kiting, wathc out for sunfury hold tough=P, adds are easly killed.

solod on my mage, hit trinket, arcane power, pyro, pom pyro, fireblast, cone of cold, then finished him (and adds) with arcane explosion, less than 30 seconds.

Kinda hard solo, immune to fear but not stun.
Spawns adds like all giants do nowadays.
Still killed solo as shadowpriest.

Probably it's easy-mode for any class except warriors and rogues.

But I could solo him as lvl 69 combat rogue (green/blue geared), but died from adds at the end.

I used kidney shot almost at begin and bandaged.
Expose armor + Slice n Dice helped here too.
Used Evasion and other CDs only when there were at least 2 adds.
Had to use HP potion too of course.

Soloed as a demonology lock. Just kept dotting and healing pet, then dealt with the adds once Apex was dead.

Hunters: Put on Cheetah and make sure your pet doesn't get aggro. Just keep kiting him over the bridge near where the bloodelves are. If you go fast enough, you'll leave his little "spawns" behind and they won't try and attack you.

When I say kiting I don't mean wingclip/concussion shot. He's immune.

Apex is found roaming from 51, 70 to 52, 69. This is in front of the bridge LEADING to Manaforge Coruu.

Not too hard of a fight, even for me, a badly-geared shadow priest - he spawns two small adds which you can easily get away from after the kill by running a little ways onto the bridge. Hits for 300-400 on cloth.

and with an additional 3 adds: 1 warp chase, 1 mana snapper and 1 swifting shredder.

and i didnt use any pot

For anyone doing this in 2021, I solo'ed this pretty easily on a mostly Kara geared Affliction Warlock. Send in VoidWalker, then DoT and blow him up. I did a Howl of Terror after killing him and moved on over the bridge. Easy peasy.

In retrospect, I suppose I should've expected Kael'thas's magic to be this robust. He's always been a talented mage, but I've never seen anything like the power he wielded during the attack on the tower.

The ward keeps me from being able to scry out the force holding it in place, but it doesn't preclude you from scrying.

You'll require a focus, though. A crystal-bearing giant named Apex roams the plains to the west of Manaforge Duro. One of its crystals would make an excellent scrying focus.
