Do you have to be a skinner to finish this? I haven't gotten any hides, just the meat.

Or do I just have to kill a lot of them to receive the hides?

I was having trouble finding these drops. Only had 2 in about 20 kills. Went to the 52, 42 area as a previous post mentioned and got the other 4 in 6 kills.

You get the hides BOTH from drops and from skinning.

It took about 10 kills to get all 6 hides from just dropping. Then, the server glitched on me right as I was turning this quest in. It took my hides and gave me my chosen reward, but didn't give me completion credit. Meanwhile, I picked up Skinning. I did the quest again, and I got all the hides in 5 kills - 4 from drops and 2 from skinning.

So now I have both the boots and the cloak. Man, I can think of so many higher level quests where I would kill to have more than one of the rewards...

I was checking out new areas I hadn't been with my 25 hunter and decided to go here since I just got the expansion. Figured while I was here do some lower level quests. That way they help teach you your way around the area and I can get some rep increase (plus got the recipe and some green for enchanting).

I started doing this quest, killed a buck, and then got a whisper "why is a lvl 25 doing a lvl 5 quest?" I proceeded to tell them I was increasing rep point, getting skins, getting meat for my pet and I get silver from the quest. Why not kill a few birds with one stone.

Well the person continued to tell me off about how I should do the wool quest instead because I would get 300 rep exp (Blizzard never said higher levels can't do lower level quests), that the buck are 'rare', and I should buy my meat from vendors (yeah not all of us have a level 70 character on the side that can make a few gold from each drop)... Well I ended up only killing 4 bucks (not mass slaughtering). Skinned two skins off two of the kills. No difference than another lower level doing the quest. Ended up getting like 50ish exp and 150 rep exp (which he claimed he got 300 from it).

Just a note THESE CREATURES AREN'T RARE. I passed another 8 to turn in and another 7 or so to the next quest. You just have to walk a few yards away from the turn in to find them.

34,60 is wrong, there are "Moongraze Bucks" north. Keyword being north if you even read the quest at all. They're right outside camp.
