I can't help but feel this one's a bit bugged. I've killed a load and still nothing, but if you look over by the toastrack/stargate thingy you can see archons and overlords walking into there from the tube and transforming.
The quest refers to 'an archon or overlord that might be transforming soon', so I assume this might be relevant.
Whenever I try and kill one from the tube however, they drop nothing and yield no experience.

It seems like blizzard got a bit lazy on this one.

There's a tube etherials spawn in, and walk into the big thingy, and transform.. Quest says kill mobs that 'are transforming'. But these mobs drop nothing. Looks like blizzard planned on giving them the quest drop but didn't get around to it.

Regardless, it drops from any archons and overlords, regardless of what they are doing.

I got my drop when an Archon emoted "begins to release his power in desperation". I killed him before he could do it and got my loot. Not sure if it really works this way though

every few seconds an archon or an overlord spawns in the tube thingy described above. wait a few seconds while the mob is in there and then teleports out. when they teleport out u kill it before it goes into the big thing with all the circles of electricity where it transforms into a ethernal nexus stalker.

I killed about 10 arcons and 10 overlords, and finally got one to drop off an overlord. The tricks described above with the Archons didn't work for me, so I just started killing both types of mobs.

you wanna make sure to find the guys that are "putting on the light display." The guys that drop the stuff are always emitting a bunch of lights and stuff, just interrupt them and you'll get it. be patient

Quest seems to be bugged. Half of the mobs don't drop any loot, and after about 50 kills I'm still not getting the item.

Random drop, had nothing to do with where they were standing or anything. Took about 25 kills.

Like every low drop rate quest, of course, there are lots of posts about 'tricks' to use how to get the item. Just kill, kill, kill. ;)

This is like the egg quest in Shadowmoon Valley, I had to abandon and take the quest again to get this thing. I killed like 50 archon/overlord without getting the item, but after I restarted the quest i got it on my 2nd kill (and it was not from any near the damn tube).

Confirmed, location or the way the archons/overlords turn into nexus stalkers in that Star Wars pathway have nothing to do with it. Just tag enough Overlords or Archons and you'll get it eventually, took me about 20 kills.

I went and killed a Archon and got it on the first kill, i dunno if if had anything to do with him making loads of emotes before he died :>
But i waited until he was "shifting" and getting the debuff (40% decreased melee dmg but 20% increased magical dmg)
And then killed him, got it on first try as i said.

Confirmed, you have to wait till they start doing a animation in which a purple cloud starts forming around them, like the quest log says when they are 'shifting'. Let them finish then immediately attack and loot.

it's killing....killing and nothing more but killing (besides having good luck). I gained the last 10% xp up to level 70 on this quest. Be patient and don't waste your time reading on fantastic strategies, its just having good luck.

Cords. confirmed @ 56,46 in that general area, Archon's and overlords you Kill, and the prepared Ethereum wrapping will drop randomly!

For some reason people seem to believe that this is a completely random drop and the phase of the enemy doesn't matter. I just killed a good 15-20, then decided maybe it'd be worth trying. I had never been able to kill them the first time they phased, but had never waited for them to do it again. The first enemy I waited to phase again then killed while they were phased dropped it. Could be luck, but it's worth trying if you're not getting the drop.

Tips for rogues: He walks south towards the "bomb" site. Clear the first 3-4 mobs before starting. Then sap as you move along. I was able to avoid any other fights until he arrived and spawned his attackers. Then we "MOVED BACK!!" and aggroed another.. Close :p

Once again, confirmed: killing the mobs gets you the drop. I farmed for a bout 5-10 minutes and got nothing, then I noticed the guys floating in the tube, so I decided to try killing them; I then discovered that you can't even loot those guys, so that's pointless. I also tried killing them after they exited the tube; same story. I decided to wait until they finish walking through the rings, but they disappear when they get to the end. So then I decided to just start farming them again, and it ended up dropping off of the very next guy I killed, who happened to be an Overlord. The moral of the story: just farm the hell out of them until it drops.

Took a few kills but I can confirm the Archons drop it. IMO it is better to kill them as their DPS is considerably lower than the overlords. Plus they daze you with their summoned axes

Very annoying to fight against the archons, they got quite much health, and, they also have this spell that reduces your damage by 40%.
Luckily, I got mine on the second kill.

I got this on my third kill, but i'd already been killing these quite a bit, They're a bit harder than the other mobs higher up in the camp, they're dps is rather high, also the classic roots/snares don't do so well on these mobs as they can 'project' their weapons to where you are, so just nuke them.

Took me a lot of kills, I actually grinded the Archons and Overlords for about roughly an hour. It didn't drop so I went to the tunnel-like thing and waited for the Archons and Overlords to go there, because when they do they kind of phase-shift but be warned, they don't give any loot when they are on the move. Kind of strange but I don't got any answer to that. So don't be tricked by that tunnel thing like I was, stayed there for 20 minutes. Not worth it.

Nevermind, I found the location. What I did was wait by the pipe (which is just ahead of the quest giver), where the Archons and Overlords spawn, and waited for them to teleport out, then killed them. However, you might be able to get the drop while in the pipe, I am not sure. :)

I've done this q twice and i think i know when you get drop :D Try to kill the mob, eithr archon or overlord, when they are doing that special movements with their hands, like they are preparing something. Dont bother with killing those who are just normally standing. Hope it helps :D

- Go To: (55, 42) - (South of quest giver)

- Kill Ethereum Archons (Can kill others, but the Ethereum Archons seem to have a better drop rate)

- Head back to the launch pad thingy to turn the quest in

- Next quest is some kind of escort, so be ready. (The NPC your escorting heads south and does not stop to fight. Even if he or you gets agro. He's stupid.. err..I mean passive)

I tried to find a pattern to the drop.

After reading "a wrapping from an archon or overlord that might be transforming soon" I thought perhaps it would only drop from the mobs entering the pipe (they transform into Stalkers inside the pipe). So I just killed those mobs that teleported in and were entering the pipe. These mobs drop nothing, zilch, nada, zip.

While waiting for them to teleport in I killed random mobs in the area. Eventually got it from an Archon that did not teleport in but was a random spawn in the area.

I would say this confirms it is totally random.

Got it on an Overlord that I pulled from guarding the transforming electrified tube to inside the tube and killed him there. Had killed maybe 50 total overlords and archons outside the tube before getting it this way.

Confirmed that it's completely random, at least for the Archons and Overlords in the area. There is a scripted ethereum that gets spawned inside the big tube, he'll channel some stuff with little energy balls floating around him, and then walk outside and down the pathway to the conduit. I'm not sure if this is a bug or intended, but the scripted ethereum is not lootable after you kill him!

You're better off killing the random Archons and Overlords. Mine dropped after about the 20th kill.

not sure why some folks can't read, the quest says "that might be transforming soon". they would be near the electric tube if that was the case. Guess what killed there at front of tube and 3rd kill dropped it. Many of these quests do require reading and not blind killing.

The chance on drop is not random, pull the overload or conduit when they seem like they're working on something. If you pull them just walking around, it doesn't drop. If you pull them while they seem like they're working on something, it's a 100% drop rate.

The first time I spent an hour killing the ethereals there, and no luck.
Tried again, and went to the south part of the area, killed one ethereum archon, and got it.

Theres no trick and no need to be in a tunnel/tube? as far as I noticed. Just find one overlord (or archon) and kill it.

I just kill something like 30 overlord or archons randomly in the base, and still no drop.
However, when I kill one that is in the pipe coming from the mana forge, or one that just transform in the tunnel, they don't drop anything. In fact, there is no "loot icon" on their corpse ... my guess is that they (the one in the pipes) drop the wrappings but a bug prevent me from looting. Instead, I probably have to kill 100 archons anywhere else to have the wrappings ...

Note : I just got the wrappings on my 37th kill on an archon just near the pipe (but not in the pipe or going in the pipe). May be it'll help

We must destroy the machinery that is making these nexus-stalker aberrations possible. To strike at their proto-accelerator would be futile as it is an ethereal creation. We must instead destroy the manaforge energy tube that they are using as a conduit.

I have all that I need to create a device to overload the conduit save for one item. I need a wrapping from an archon or overlord that might be transforming soon in order to calibrate the device.
