Speak with Cyrus after you have the quest and say you do not have any proof. Another dialogue option saying you're ready will summon a 54 dragon to defeat for the quest.

Yeah me and another guy i did it and we were both 53 pallys. The dragon is pretty powerful i doubt anything under 57 could solo him but with a group he went down pretty easy.

When the big dragon comes he is fairly easy. As a beast mastery hunter at lvl 55 i soled him without a problem. I didnt even use rapid fire just the beast within

To get the black dragonflight molt you must complete the quest chain in searing gorge that starts with https://www.wowhead.com/tbc/quest=3442 from the NPC(Kalatran Windblade) just south of thorium point. It's a fairly simple and lucrative chain, but it's long. at the end, you aquire the Hoard of the Black Dragonflight which has the Black Dragonflight molt and green or 2 in it.

U talk to the guy and he will spawn the dragon to kill if you have more peps than one you have to wait for the dragon to respawn and them to loot it

You can also get the molt by completing a series of quests, which ends with the quest Set Them Ablaze, in the Searing Gorge. After all is said and done, there's a chest next to the squire; from this chest you get the molt.

THAT is what the other folks were talking about. The info is still valid with v1.10, 'cause I just completed it about 15 minutes ago. (29March2006)

If you are in a group, only one person can get the quest item for each kill. To make it worse, the dragon will only respawn once every 10 minutes. So a party of five will take about an hour total.

I agree with Vulturefu, if you haven't done it already, take the quest to get the molt:

It will be much easier if you're higher level, but not a strong soloer against the Dragon, or if in a group, only one person needs to light the braziers & everyone gets a molt from the turnin npc, plus the rewards from that quest are also a bonus! Much easier than a group needing to kill the dragon over & over.

Just wanted to let people know that if you completed Set Them Ablaze a long time before getting this quest, you can go back to Kalaran in Searing Gorge and the chest will still be there. (At least it was for me.)

I looted it and got the molt, no problem.

Once obtaining the quest from the Dragon, talk to him again to prove your worthiness. He will spawn outside the cave.

I did this as a 54 warlock (affliction spec'd). I put my voidy on him, applied all of my DOT's (and I mean all of them). Once I pissed him off, I shadow bolted a couple of times and deathcoiled him once. I had to use a healthstone and sacrificed my pet in the end, but I did kill him :)

I soloed the Frenzied Black Drake(54 Elite( or w/e is called as a 53 Beast Mastery Hunter /w a Lvl 53 gorilla fer a pet.Pretty easy.

Yeah, just did this quest as a 52 BE Hunter (BM spec), and the 54 Frenzied Black Drake that came out was not elite, or rare, just plain normal. Sic'd my cat on him, and was expecting a good fight.... not so much. Dragon was down in less than 10 sec, and my pet's health bar barely moved.

Good XP to be so easy :)

wasnt very hard, did this as a lvl 54 resto enhance shaman, didnt have to heal myself or use a potion, he hits pretty hard though, had to use all my totems.

His minion was not elite for me..
just a 54 dragon and i didnt even go below 95% health..

Just want to point out if you do that quest in searing gorge where you make the flame thing to light the towers on fire..that big dragon comes and kills that guy. there is a chest next to him that gives you teh molt...grab it!

Talk to the guy and accept the quest. Click on him again and say you have no proof and he will summon his minion, defeat the minion and whoop there it is.

Easy just get the quest talk to the guy again push How do i porve my worth or whatevr lol.then fight his minion which is a normal lvl 54 now and kick his butt and geet the molt :)
suggested lvl 52 or 53 maybe even 54 lol.

You can only get one molt at a time off the minion dragonspawn. So if you have multiple people on the quest, you have to keep respawning it. I don't think anyone's mentioned it. Also, can you only get it by skinning the drake? Another intereting question.

I just spoke with him and said i couldnt prove myself and i fought his pet and kicked but with a 54 holy priest ^_^

Note that the Frenzied Black Drake is immune to fire damage. So not much point in bringing your imp if you're a warlock.

Soloed as a 53 hunter, and hit 54 in the process. I just kept him at the end of the cave with my pet, and just went all out on him. Flame buffet is a #$%^&. Once he killed my pet, he came after me and took me down to 300~ish. Not. Fun.

Once you talk to the guy in the cave he gives you the quest. Click on him again and you'll see a chat option that says you do not have proof. He'll tell you to face his minion to prove yourself and that's when the dragon spawns.

He's a 54 elite and he's a SOB. Kill him and you'll get your drop.

For me there wasn't any prereq for this quest. When I walked into the cave for the first time without ever having done any of the quests that are supposed to load up to this one I was already able to get this quest and the mold by talking to him.

Is this site wrong or is it perhaps a bug?

I happened to stumble upon this quest while levelling in the Burning Steppes. I had seen the Black Drake flying around the area already and avoided it because I didn't realize it was a couple levels below me (I see a giant dragon and think Pwnage x_x). When I accepted the quest I figured he wanted me to kill it, I wasn't prepared for the 500DMG Flame Breath, so I died the first time.

As a level 52 Affliction Lock (without Curse of Doom ... you don't get that until 60), I simply sent my VW into him, making sure I'm at least with in the minimum range to start dotting immediately after my VW successfully Torments it. Siphon Life, Corruption, (Amplify Curse) Curse of Agony, Unstable Affliction. Then begin to use Drain Life as much as I can, though eventually it's attention turns off the VW and on to me. At this point I just start running away, lol. We don't have to be facing it to recast the dots (except for Unstable Affliction, but I'm not stopping for that) and I somehow managed to avoid his Flame Breath. I never thought about sacrificing the VW, so I'll keep that in mind next time, lol ...

Using a Superior Health Potion and a Greater Healthstone, I survived with a little over 1k HP.

No Molt, wasn't aware YOU had to summon it. Oh well, it was a fun fight, I'll do it again some time.

just talk to him twice ppl no need for cords or just kill the LARGE elite Dragons you had to aviod while questing

the interaction with this NPC - Cyrus Therepentous - was a bit confusing for me... i talked to him and showed him the Molt. then i had to talk to him again before i could continue with this quest...

this whole line of quests seems to need a little work...

I just tried this quest again, and when I didn't have proof, he spawned a 55 elite drake. After I died and went back, I tried to get another chance, but could not get him to spawn another drake. After abandoning and reaquiring the quest, the dummoned drake did not appear, so I will try again another day.

What SHOULD be posted here: If you don't already have the molt, talk to Cyrus again. You'll be able to fight his pet for a molt.

It's already been posted, but it's worth repeating for clarity. See previous posts about other ways to get a molt item to satisfy the quest. But if you need to kill the Frenzied Black Drake to get one, then you get him to spawn by talking to the NPC a SECOND time after you get the quest from him. But be prepared when you do because the Frenzied Black Drake will materialize behind you at the entrance to the cave. See previous posts for fighting him; also there may be a wait period for him to respawn if somebody else has done it recently or if you need to repeat the attempt - so keep this in mind.

there are two ways to obtain the molt:
1. there is a chain in searing gorge (The Flawless Flame), in the chest you'll get as reward there is a molt aswell. the NPC will know this and ask you to show it to him in a mini-quest.
2. speak with him, say you don't have a proof and accept his challenge. A frenzied black drake (elite 52) will enter the cave and attack you. He will drop a molt aswell.

There seems to be some timer on the latter quest, when I and a friend did it, he had to wait a bit until "his" drake spawned.

Easy victory for a feral druid.

Talk to Cyrus in cat-form as far back in the cave as you can. As soon as you click continue, stealth. The dragon will sit there waiting to be killed. Get your bleed dots and mangle on him as quickly as you can. Pop out, rejuvenate yourself, pop bear form. Enrage, tank until about 1500 hp. Do not use swipe! Save the rage for more powerful attacks! At that point, frenzied regenerate. Frenzied regeneration should nearly bring you to full health. If not, no worries. Continue to tank until around 1300 hp. Pop out --> barkskin --> regrowth, rejuvenate --> healing touch --> rejuvenate --> innervate --> bear-form. The hots from rejuv and regrowth should allow you to tank the dragon to victory. If not, play it safe and pop out around 1500 health and regrowth and rejuvenate. It shouldn't take more than two heals, and with innervate, you should have the mana to easily make the second heal.

I'm assuming all feral druids have around 3,500 hp.

Solo'd as a 54 hunter... Started the fight with pet tanking and spamming as much dmg as possible before pet died... Then I kited the drake south following the mountains using serpant sting and acrane shot... Aspect of Cheetah helped to get some distance for some auto and multishots before he got in range again... Didn't use any pots or other perishables during the fight

Also, I'm pretty sure the level of the drake is related to the level of who who spawns it, as it was always 54 on my attempts~

Note: The drake is immune to all non-damage status effects

solo'd it as a lvl 54 BM hunter. lost my pet. but killed it as it was flying towards me. used rapid fire, and bestial wrath at the same time. with those two, and if your pet crits. if you total beast mastery, then you should end up with 88% attack speed boost, with +13% damage. thats including abilities that happen from talent tree, and the speed boost from your quiver

If you are doing this quest by summoning the Drake in the Burning Steppes, be advised that the spawn may be camped and 'stolen' by anyone who is outside the cave at the time it is summoned.

Make sure you have your group waiting outside the cave for the spawn so you can tag it before a farmer does.

Sad that there are those who would grief like this, but they are out there :(

Its on a time - about 3min or so - if it doesn't spawn for you after 3min - logout and back in and do it - In a group of 3 - we managed to get him to come 3 times by doing this. . . . proof . . . ready . . . KILL

Solo'd this one with my Lvl 53 Shadow priest... the key was to dispel the stacks of Flame Buffet. 5 stacks of this will hit you for 500 damage per cast and you'll be done for. Mana was the only issue but 1 greater mana potion and a little bit of wand mana management saw me through.

To mitigate damage i used Vampiric Embrace and Shadow Word: Pain for a smallish heal. Didn't need any of the holy heals to stay up.

Hope this helps any other priests in the same boat.
