Home of the Sunken Temple (https://www.wowhead.com/tbc/zone=1417). This zone is particularly used by horde because of the base in the south. It serves as a very good zone to raise herbalism skill and as a gateway to the Blasted Lands in the south.

This place is also good for skinners with emerald whelps just south of the entrance to deadwind pass, as well as a chance to drop whelplings and good for grinding, also it has a lost one village north of the sunken temple as well as one of the common spots where the quest item that starts "Lost supplies" is located. Higher Levels and grind on the green dragonkin around the temple.
If your alliance you should also stop by Nethergrade Keep in the blasted lands since there's no flight point here :(.

What exactly is the best way to get here when you're around level 40?

I took the trip down from Arathi today, and I SERIOUSLY don't recommend it to anyone. It took me almost half an hour. Would have been longer if I couldn't use my Mount on the strips of walkable land.

I'll test the Deadwind Pass route tomorrow, and post the results here.

It's very possible to go through Deadwind Pass to get to Swamp of Sorrows, even at an early level. Just make sure to avoid the Sky Shadows (buzzards) and don't miss the turn into the swamp itself as there are a number of mobs between the entrance to the swamp and Karazhan. Ogres, for the most part.

To confirm what people seem to be wondering: Taking Deadwind Pass to get to the Swamp of Sorrows is the easiest method. If you stay on the road and do not deviate to any of the side paths, you can do this as a level 30-ish player with no problems. The mobs in the area are significantly higher than level 30, but they are also notably off the beaten path.

Has anyone realized that Swamp of Sorrows bears an uncanny resemblance to a place in the book titled "The NeverEnding Story", in which a place is called Swamps of Sadness.

It is mentioned in the portion where the rider goes off to find a wizard for assistance.

For those of us on PvE servers who don't want to really PvP, a word of warning; NPCs from Stonard patrol around various areas and they are flagged for PvP. If you kill one you'll be flagged for 5 minutes.

On the Venture Co realm Stonard is home to a The Black Tooth Grin,
If your a level 80 alliance the easiest path to get to the swamp is to go from Nethergrande Keep in the Blasted Lands.

From the griffon in Duskwood you go up the road away from town into Dead Man's Pass. Take it straight without wandering off any side roads until you get to Swamp of Sorrows. If you take side roads, you'll get eaten by 55+ vultures.

There are swamp jaguars in there but I don't know about their attack speed, you'll have to go there and cast beast lore on one to see if it's what you're looking for.

In reguard to this question...

The mob who drops the Tiny Emerald Whelpling is called the Dreaming Whelpling, ranging in level from about 34-36. The drop is VERY rare (according to this site, almost 0.01%, or 1 in every 2300+ kills), though some reportedly have obtained it quite easily.

These mobs are scattered loosely across the swamp, though the largest concentration can be found at the extreme west of the zone.

Another thing to remember is that the Dreaming Whelplings are also accompanied by a similar mob entitled the Adolescent Whelpling, so no NOT devote your time to killing these, unless you need to freshen the ground with respawns.

The Tiny Emerald Whelpling is the rarest of the collectible Whelplings, and most sought after non-combat pet. They sell generally for a minimum of 100g at the AH. So if you're approaching 40, and still don't have enough "mount money"... ^_~

Yes swamp jaguars are 2nd fastest pet and the crocs here are pretty good dps.Well if ur hunter get to 37 and tame broken tooth in badlands with attack speed 0.96 :) hope that helps m8

the green dragonkins aren't elite anymore.
you can grind them for Exp and worn/green dragonscales. g'luck

closest ones are in darkshire in duskwood (gotta travel though deadwind pass, and stay on the road!) or netherguarde keep, in the blasted lands. that's the one i favor, because its closest. ngk is at the top left of the map.

Easy to get this zone throu the Deadwind Pass (from Darkshire to the east) No mobs on the way. Encountered highlevel mob means that you are wrong turned :) This location is Paradise for herbalist-alchemist. Tones of Fadeleaf, Khalgar's Whisker and Blindweed. Only Aliance post located North, just turn left on the first "fork" then turn left after first bridge (coords are 47,54). There are few quests and no vendors and flightmaster :(

Up in the north west of the zone there is a little enclosed area called Misty Valley, which is full of level 38-41 elementals- perfect for grinding. By the time I had cleared the area once most of them had respawned, so there is almost no downtime (and that was on a level 41 Hunter too ^^). Just a tip I'd though I would share.

Oh, and those elementals go down really easy, so a good xp/hr rate too!

I found a group of quest givers (From Exodar mostly)
at 26,32.

I found some goldthorn (sells for about 1g per plant) in the area, mostly near the hills.)
I have only one blindweed as yet.

The way to get here is to head on eastward from darkshire, chosing eastward on every path choice. It worked. Wrong directions are north or south. You can use the roads to get here, just gotta chose the right roads.

So in my NElf hunters younger days I swear I saw a huge dragon. In the area around the wyrmkins a dragon like the rare spawn in Blasted lands that took a few lvl 60s to take down. Now I checked the rare beast list for this zone and its not listed. Anyone else seen this thing. He was a skull to me at the time so not sure what lvl he was but he one shot me easily.

If you're really into avoiding confrontation, you can always swim south out of Hinterlands, or swim north from Stranglethorn Vale, and just swim along the coastline... LOL!

But seriously, when I was leveling my first toon, I swam out of Revantusk Village and found my way to SoS and eventually Stonard.

Or just beg a mage to port you to Stonard (horde) or whatever the Alliance equivalent is, since that is a feature now. :D

If you need supplies or repairs and you're alliance, the closest place is probably the Blasted Lands, which has an alliance stronghold just on the boarder of the zone, and a flight path.

I found a different way to get here. I went to redridge and climbed the mountains on the bottom right side and there is a little opening you can climb up to and and from there you can jump down to the swamp of sorrows. I had to use my soul stone though because the fall will kill you. I've never gotten there any other way. I'll get cords later on.

For those doing the Nat Pagle quest (Nat Pagle, Angler Extreme Location of Misty Reed Strand is most of the eastern coastline in sawmp of sorrows.

theres nothing here but a smart-mouthed BE. didnt attack me (human pally lvl 40) he doesnt do anything but talk. to get to his cave you have to go through adolesant and dreaming whelps. not so bad.

For the Awesome Horde

In case you were wondering, there doesn't appear to be any breadcrumbs for this zone. The best you get is this quest from some flea-bitten Gelkis in Desolace that sends you to Swamp of Sorrows, passing a couple of undead at a broken own keep in Duskwood who offer up a small quest chain that's in the swamp.

Although there are a bunch of other quests in an orc camp, no breadcrumbs direct you there, so you can either finish up the zone before you return to Desolace, or come back later and complete them at your leisure.

For Alliance Scum

Meh, your pathetic faction only has five quests in the swamp. All but one are given by the same human filth, and he ends most of them. There doesn't appear to be any breadcrumbs. Why are you here anyway? Did you wish to see how sharp the blade of an axe is?
