If you are a hit-capped hunter the Orca-Hunter's Harpoon is marginally better than Marrowstrike

You gain 29 AP, 9 Crit (0.2% crit chance), and lose 60 (4.87%) Armor Pen.

This dropped for my group tonight, and I (as a paladin) was going to pass it to the hunter in our group. He didn't want it, however, as he already had Edge of Agony from ToC 10 man. Personally, I'd take the crit rating on this item over the haste and armour penetration, but I'm not exactly sure which stats hunters value more. Needless to say, I found this was easily an upgrade for me over Edge of Ruin, even without the strength bonus.

also surprisingly good replacement for the good old Edge of Ruin for a ret pally.
Increased DPS quite noticably, even tho agil+AP is not the best combo for rets.
I´d estimate a good 5-10% increase in dps over Edge of Ruin.

Fitted it with a +20 str gem too.

This weapon will show both it's original glow, and the glow of any enchants you put on yourself. The combination of glows can look quite impressive.

Looted this last night for my retadin, can confirm a dps increase of about 8% over Edge of Ruin, without +20 str yet. Good upgrade for those who are only geared for HC's and can't yet get into raids for gear.

Plus the fact that the socket bonus sucks on this weapon. I threw a +20 Strength gem in and called it a day. Then again I'm a DK so I kind of needed that gem in there, lol.

Whenever I get a New Item with a socket on it I allways come here hoping to find someone who actually posted any good and relevant comment, such as a nice gem depending on your class or something. Anyone one up to the challenge of inteligent posting?¿? Plesa if so post gems or best class use for the item XD

Unless you a. don't know how to gear for the right stats or b. your weapon is really, really, really, really horrible. Any plate-wearing DPS should just pass right over this. My boyfriend is playing my DK and rolled on this.../facepalm, James, come on now...

To be productive, anyone who's looking at this for an upgrade,
It's great for hunters and Druids, the types of melee classes that can use Agility and AP over Strength and Crit.

If you're a plate-wearing DPS, hold onto your ToC weapon.

Easy upgrade over any 219 epic 2h weapon even for melee classes. Edge of Ruin is 3.5 speed, this is 3.4. Not exactly a huge increase in speed, not to mention this weapon has a higher top-end damage which is all that matters for instant strikes. Anyway, it's a good weapon. Hunters must be peeved that most of their polearms happen to be slow in WOTLK, making them much more desirable to melee classes than before.

I'd also like to mention that Hit on a weapon is a great thing because it frees up your main gear to have other stats. Gear without Hit tends to be better itemized than gear with Hit, so it's nice to get Hit on things like Rings/Weapons

How does this compare to Staff of the Plaguehound for tanking druids? As much as I'd like to upgrade that old thing, the harpoon has less stamina even when socketed with a +30 stam gem, and I'd lose a whole bunch of expertise, of which bears can hardly ever have enough...

been running halls of reflection every single day for 10 or so days in a row now for my hunter and haven't seen this drop once. the drop rate is absolutely disgusting. more chance of seeing a world epic than this.

The model of this weapon looks like it's being swung incredibly fast in an anime-slow-motion-scene.

Often in animes when someone throws an awesome punch or something, it's often in slow motion/still picture with a very colorful background. This looks like one of those punches, only it's a swing.

It is NOT a joke, it is a fact.

So, the fact that I use it for tanking with my DK..... ?
It's a nice weapon. The hit rating and blue gem on this made it a good choice for me for tanking (as I've been hard-pressed to get much of anything better). I lucked into it on a run where we had.... guess what?.... no hunters. Really not bad for blood/unholy spec tanking though.

Someday though.... I will have my precious Ramaladni's Blade of Culling, and then I'll retire this guy to the bank.

I'm a druid tank and this dropped the other day during a random heroic but a ret pally won the roll. But after massive QQ from the group, he traded it to me. That was rather nice of him.

Ret pallies, DKs, and Arms Warriors, this is NOT a bad weapon for you guys (no matter what some people claim), but it is a much better weapon for feral druids and hunters. And therefore as a courtesy, it is considered a good practice to pass on loot that is way more suited for another than yourself. Same reason why when I play my warrior, I pass on guns/bows to hunters, or if I'm on my hunter, I would never roll for leather dps gear (even if it were an upgrade) against a rogue.

a nice little tid-bit for feral tanks, enchanting this with Formula: Incanta Arma - Succhiasangue not only makes for a great tanking weapon, but also turns your polearm into a 3-foot long glowing jesus.
