Herod's shoulder is an excellent shoulder for a level 37-40 warrior and/or paladin. It is quite a bit of armor for this level and the stats will improve your damage and health, but remember, this is only mail so it would probably be best to upgrade to a plate shoulder after level 40.

This is not hunter armor. Rollng on this against a warrior, paladin or shaman only helps to tarnish the hunter class even further. I mean c'mon, what are you gonna do with the +str?

Hunters wearing Herod's Shoulder is a moniker to the class that says.. "I roll on anything!" Especially considering hunters don't get mail until level 40, while a warrior or pally in your group can use the armor straight away.

I agree with the fact that hunters shouldn't roll on this, Wait till you get mail at 40 and get some skeletal shoulders!!! I'm a 44 Hunter and beast mastery is my game, but I'm also high on agility... These aren't very good shoulders for MOST hunters, however some hunters melee alot in which case the strength is good for them, so stop hatin on the hunters folks, some of them DO specialize in melee... Granted... That's stupid, because we're marksmen!!!
Hunters... Don't roll on this, you don't need it!
Oh and those of you who think it's best to stay with leather armor... What the hell are you thinking???
I have the same agility and stamina with mail as I did with leather, and I have more than twice the armor rating, you just have to be smart about what you wear!

I've had this since about level 42 on my Shaman(I couldn't get it to drop before sadly), and still have it at 48. No shoulder piece looks as cool, or even half as decent as this.

Looks extremely kick ass with Khan's armor.

I agree that if you are running in a group a Hunter should not roll on these, however if you get ran through by someone (a lvl 70 loc friend of mine ran me through) there is no reason a hunter shouldn't use these. I still have them on my 48 hunter because I have not gotten anything better from drops or found any in the AH for a decent price.

But if a hunter is in a group with a warrior or pally and they roll, someone should slap them.

To be honnest, this armor works goo with a shammy Dual-weilder (thats two one handed weapons) now you can use this all the way to lvl 60 because it give you the stam you need, but i t can be replaced with diffrent shoulders to do alot better things, but if you just looking for health this will do till 60 :D trust me i am using it :D

I feel I should come to the hunters defence over this item as a lot of hunters seem to get complained at about it.
What it is important to remember is that hunters share their stats with their pet. Ranged AP converts to the pets ranged AP/Spell damage, Stamina, obviously converts to pet's stamina, Resistances and armor all convert to the pet from the hunter's stats.

In the case of Fleshhide Shoulders Vs. Herod's Shoulder The following are the benefits to the pet:
Fleshhide: RAP: +1.32, Stamina: +4.5 (+45 Health), 0 Resistance, 33.25 Armor.
Herod's Shoulder: RAP: 0. Stamina: +4.5 (+45Health). 0 Resistance, 68.6 Armor
As you can see the armor to the pet from Herod's is double that of Fleshhide but losses the 1.3 ranged AP. In my oppinion the single point of RAP is pointless. Assuming you are going PvE leveling your pet's survivability is top priority since it is your own personal tank.

Of course with that being said it has to be examined from a PvP perspective. The Agility from the Fleshhide would give (at level 60 since that is the lowest level I have formulae for) 0.18% crit chance, 0.23% dodge (again at 60) and only 6 RAP. I am aware that the values aren't exactly accurate as formulae change with each level but it helps to put these items in perspective.
The extra armor of Herod's provides some extra mitigation for PvP (because you all know you kill the hunter not the pet).

So there is the breakdown for you, I won't deny that a Warrior/Paladin/Shaman would benefit more from these than a hunter, but the shoulders definately do have their use to a hunter besides looking funky, More armor for the hunter and his/her pet and more health for both of them.

i think that needing on this a shaman is very reasonable to all those who disagree. i usually instance wit palla friend ofmine, and luckily he had the shoulder. However, te shoulder didnt drop :( I got the equivalent helm though :)

coming from a well geared/skilled hunter myself

I at the moment am leveling another hunter alt on a pvp server
and i would never roll on this to use if it dropped

2 main reasons

1. we DONT need strength
2. wearing them makes u look like a horrible hunter
i see them on other hunters and assume huntard, i see them on hunters in pvp, and i assume poor gear as well and they get targeted first

I haved farmed this should piece again and again, and it is ever soo useful.

Yet what I dont get is why some hunters roll on it. but nvm about classes. The Stam bonus is a real must for anyone and the Strenght never hurt too. Wouldn't bother using it for disenchanting since you won't get much out of it :-)

I've ran through the armory multiple times....i just got 3 runs from an 80...and they still dont drop.
it says it has a 33% drop rate so why hasnt it dropped...everything else has.

For Enhancement Shamans, getting the Earthbound Shoulderguards of the Bandit or of the Wild (from the Random Dungeon bag) give much better stats than these. Still, if you don't want to run a bunch of dungeons in hopes of getting a random item, these are worth it.

Got it in my first complete Armory run, first and second time we got whiped.
A hunter and a shammy were rolling for it, i'm a warrior and planning to play allot of WSG and AB, when i'm lvl 39 so that was my reason, after that run I won the helmet, and the hunter and Shammy and another warrior didnt even roll, such nice guys the russians :).
Anyway, good luck to you all who still didnt got it.

people don't freak out, yeah i have also done SM quite a couple of times and the one time the shoulder dropped, a 42 hunter rolled 99 for it. So what. He has the right to need it since he wears mail. And don't forget, this is just a game don't freak out for nothing, eventually the shoulder will drop. I wish you all a good time on WoW. See ya in game. :)

But for those Warriors that decide to do 30-39 BGs, the full Scarlet set with Herod's Shoulder as well as the Raging Berserker's Helm are excellent. The Scarlet set gives out Strength and Stamina, as well as Agility. Warriors need the stamina for tanking, the strength for damage, and the agility for crits. We've worn mail this long, why not a little longer? ^.^

This is getting annoying listening to ppl complain about who gets the thing. I got this on like my 2nd or 3rd run thru eaily cuz my other party members were priests, rogues, mages and ppl who just didnt need it. the order for who should call for it are imo:

1. Warrior
2. Paladin
3. Shaman
4. Hunter

everyone else should lay off or ask first.

Ok fellow hunters.

I don't know if you were confused at the character selection screen, but we are not warriors, and we're not pallys. We're not supposed to tank. Our job is ranged DPS and CC. Neither of which require Stamina or Armor.

So why...WHY...would you want this shoulder? Strength only raises melee attack power (which you should not be doing unless absolutely necessary and unable to do ranged) and stamina is for tanks.

You can argue "the stamina is for my pet" but I have almost no problem with what little stamina I have soloing at my own level. So please, let the warriors have this, and get something with agility or AP.

This is a wonderful shoulder piece for a shaman. Specifically, Enhancement. I, personally, as a level 35 shaman, rolled need for this and the helm, and won them both. But that isn't the point.

Enhancement shaman are all about MELEE DAMAGE. This means that they'll be up close and personal, getting hit a lot. Since there getting hit so much, they will need stamina to help them survive. Something this piece gives plentifully. They will also need melee damage. Strength, not agility, intelligence, or bla bla bla, adds to my melee damage. So, this piece gives the top 2 stats for us. The only one it lacks is agility, which would help us crit, but the helm makes up for that with +crit rating.

In my opinion, this puts enhancement shaman at VERY close to top priority for this item.

Personally, ill be using this one long after its usefulness in combat as an RP tool - something I think only adds to my need for it.

I've been reading many of the posts and actually read about hunters needing this shoulders. The funny thing is, they all agree with each other, but still argue about it... o_O

These shoulders were obviously made for Warriors and Paladins, but hunters may use them under a few conditions.

1. There is no other class that could benefit off them in your party, or if the Warrior/Paladin already has it.
2. The only reason Hunters would even consider getting this is for the Stamina boost.

If you play a Hunter, never take these from a Warrior/Pally who wants them. Not a Hunter shoulderpiece anyway, but it could be okay if you have nothing else. Stamina could come in handy.

well back in the day when i was 37, I was nearly obbsesed with SM. I was running it nightly for exp and gear. it was the armory night, so i got a group together. 3 were guildies and the healer, a priest, was a friend of one of the guys. we get to herod, no problems. we down him and he drops these shoulders. i already had the axe and helm from him so i was extatic when this droped, it was a major upgrade from the crap shoulder i was wearing. of course, no one else needed it so i was all "omg, im needing" so i hit need. and thats when my CLOTHTARD RADAR starts beeping. THE *!@#ING HEALER rolls need on this! and she beats me by 1! HOLY %^&* WAS I PISSED! she said "dude calm down, i can use it in 3 lvls"......

of course i reply..."YOU CANT #$%^ING USE MAIL IF YOU ARE A PRIEST! YOU ARE STUCK IN CLOTH!"

bottom line: PRIEST NOOBS DONT KNOW &*!@! and if a clothy needs on anything other than cloth, feel free to group kick them, or if they're in your guild, just throw a Gkick.

Truth is, I love 'em, much better than what I was using, and I DID NOT ninja them. I had a 60 lock friend running through for DEs and i tagged along and he let me loot this. The STA is so useful to me its insulting to hear somone tell me this is useless to a hunter. I tank just as well as my pet, allowing me to manage multiple mobs at once (3-4) aswell as seriously tank in PvP. Just after getting these I ran out of SM and annihilated 4 alliance, tanking a pally and 2 mages while my pet made short work of a priest. Truth is, as a beastmaster, having more life than your pet speced for HP and Armour is lethal and totaly awesome.

This shoulder is pretty good but when u hit 40 u might think of getting sumthing else if u hve the money.When ur lvl 45 try Zul Furak for those shoulders.I had a 60 warr in my guild scream at me because i had those equiped at lvl 48 =(

Definately worth using even if you only use it for 3 levels. This item screams level 39 twink gear. Plus you wont get anything worth using instead untill ZF.

Unless you buy Plate at lvl 40. And IMHO that is the stupidest thing you could ever do with your money, because you know for a fact that you will get something better when you decide to armor up for lvl 49 battlegrounds

ive been lv my alt proc pala and im looking forward to these droping i have the sheild from cath and 3 bits of scarlet set but back to my point! well heres my 10 pence worth as a hunter there is so much better for you out there yes these like very cool but really when it comes down to it if no one rolls need then feel free to but if some one ie a pala/warroir/sham need then be real about it the item is much better for them at the end of the day its better to make friends to get more groups than it is to take one item which you will replace in 3-4 lvs if a hunter went for these i wouldnt be very happy about it but in the end the roll decides all lol!

Man! I've killed Herod 7 times with my guild, I'm a lv 37 warrior, been killing him since level 35 with the guild...

Trying to get this bugger.. so far had 5 helmets drop, 1 axe, and 1 leggings.... I have helmet equipped.. Axe I didnt want, other helmets were given out, and leggings I have for next level..

This has dropped 0/7 ... leggings 1/7 ... axe 1/7 and Helmet 5/7 ... its crazy..

I hate Herod lol

If any hunters EVER want these shoulders for the Stats your a noob and if you want it to show off your a even bigger noob. These shoulders can be used for all classes exept for 4; Hunter, Priest, Warlock, Mage. Now hunters do NOT get this item unless you are tanking which you SHOULDNT!

I'm not sure why so many people are trashing hunters for wanting this item. Hunter's also need health/stamina and armor. Regardless of how sexy the item looks, a hunters stats effect the stats of their pet. Also, if you're heavily involved with PvP, you'll want health/stamina/armor. There aren't many pieces of mail that have good agi stats at lv 40 and agi can easily be made up for on other pieces of gear. For example, right now (lv 56) my stamina line in the character pane states "Increases your pet's Stamina by 73" and armor shows "Increases your pet's Armor by 807." Now I'm not saying a hunter should ever attempt to lot on this against a war or pally, but just because you see a hunter wearing this, don't assume they ninja'd it off a more deserving class. My friends and I made special runs until everyone who wanted it, had it.

These just dropped for me on my SM run, I chose need for them but lost them to a pally who was DC throughout 25% of the run, I hate losing good warrior equipment to pallies and hunters who really don't need it as much.

My friend ran me through Monastary and armoury just then, first time arm got helm off herod, first time monastary got scarlet leggings, second time arm got herod' shoulders, and since he is lvl 60 rogue....im one damn happy warrior :D

This is honestly not a hunter item. This is definitely more of a Shaman item. I say this because Hunters should get Rockshard Pauldrons from Uldaman instead of Herod's Shoulder. Rockshard Pauldrons own Herod's Shoulder in every way possible if you are a hunter.

I was running armory the other day

it was myself (a palladin), 2 other palladins, a warrior, and a preist. when we got to Herod and killed him he dropped the shoulders. the warrior and both the other pallies didnt need it (one pally already had it, the other 2 had better stuff). So....I roll need for it. everything is going great until i notice that the #$%^ING PRIEST NEED ROLLED FOR THESE! WHAT REALLY PISSED ME OFF WAS THAT SHE WON THE SHOULDERS!

I MEAN COME ON! A PRIEST DOES NOT NEED OR EVER SHOULD USE THE SHOULDERS!

my lowbie prot warr alt rolled need against a hunter and a pala and i was fortunate enough to win. Had i lost tho...so what? need is, to, about getting gear that what you currently have. If a hunter feels that the shoulders are better for him, or a priest wants them? hey! it may not make sense to you or I, but let them roll, pretty much impossible to stop them anyway.

Hunter: Agility>Stamina, better mail shoulders with +Agility on them.

And just for those people who claim hunters need these for PVP, they're wrong. Agility is more important for PvP, especially for hunter, because of increased damage and crit rating. Any good PvPer will tell you that it doesn't matter how long you can live, it's whomever can do the most damage. That's the number one rule of PVP unless you're making a lvl 19 twink where it's hard to improve damage vs improving health. If PVP was all about stamina and health, Holy Paladin would win PVP all the time and no one would be able to stop him, but that's not the case. Sorry guys, PVP=Crit. Bottom line. Any hunter needing on these when there is a Warrior, Paladin, Or Shaman about, is just self-centered and greedy. Hunters pass on these please. Let someone who can actually use them have them. These aren't going to help you as much as you think they are.

Oh and BTW, +15 Stamina only gives your pet 5 stamina, which is 50 health. What's more important? Your pet surviving one more hit, or ensuring that you kill your opponenet as quickly as possible so that situation never comes to fruition? I rest my case.

Hey just powered my mate through scarlet monastry afew times and the drops seem to follow some kind of hourly pattern
Herods Shoulder-dropped every run within 23:00pm, though not many people play at this hour I just thought it would be a help (:

To everyone saying that warriors can wear plate in 3 levels, very good, they can, BUT comparable shoulder Like

Cant even be used til level 42/45 and since most people have little money as it is at that level anyway unless they drop, the first thing you would go for is

Which drop in ZF at level 45.

Just because we can wear plate at that level, there needs to be good drops so that you swap out the gear in the first place. I used mine til I was level 45.

I've followed this discussion and must say, you hunters are noobs not knowing what your stats are.

Secondly, I've just been outrolled by a ninja hunter myself and just like Eowol, I felt really angry.

As a hunter, you might say (just like that ninja) that we can use plate at 40, but as a warrior, the first good plate shoulders drop in ZF, and as a tank can't be low lvl if he's going to tank, you'll have to wait 8 lvls to get anything better (considering you go ZF at 44 and get them at 45), that's why we need them: they are pure tanking shoulders! and this is why:

-Stamina: this is the main stat for every tank, keeps you alive and makes it easy for the healer to heal you since you don't die so fast
-strength: this is the second most important stat to warriors, because, since the new patch (or maybe earlier), we get block rating from Strength, which is a very important thing as a warrior

Now, this is why you ninja hunters DO NOT need this item:

-15 stamina: As a hunter, you don't need any health bonusses. If you're alone, your pet tanks, if you're in a group, the warrior / druid tanks, or if you don't manage to get a decent tank, your pet can tank anyway. Now, some of you hunters claim to be "melee" hunters? that's just stupid, since you don't have any good melee abilities, just Raptor and Mongoose, and if you DO get agro, you do a wingclip (about 60% movement imparesing) and run away, and by the time you're far enough off to shoot again, you won't have agro anymore. If you got a bad tank that just bothers with one target, kick him, leave the group, find anohter or tell him to learn 2 play.
- 6 Strength. Again hunters don't profit from this stat a lot. Firstly, if you again claim to be a melee hunter, 6 strength will give you +0.5 DPS for 6 seconds as by that time your agro will be taken away, maybe a little longer, but 6 strength really ain't that much. In ranged, 0.5 strength is nice, but you REALLY don't need stength above either a warrior, paladin, rogue or even a feral druid.

You must also realize that as a hunter, you'll first have to lvl 3 lvls up to 40 to even be able to use it, and then after 3 lvls you go and ask a leatherworker if he can craft Though Scorpid Shoulders for you (mail, 10 agility, 10 spirit).

This means that a warrior will use this shoulder as a very good thing for 7-9 lvls, and you hunters use this as a show-off, not needing it except for the +0.5 DPS, for only 3 lvls!

Again I tell you that it's a pure tanking shoulder, having 15 stamina (main tanking stat) and 6 str (second or third tanking stat). Paladins also need this, but in a good guild with DPK and no noobs, the warrior will offer more DPK than the pala will be prepared to.

Feel free to reply to me that you agree to me and that all hunters must die (your words, not mine), and if you, being a hunter, disagree, I'd like to hear what you have to say so I can understand where the mistakes are that you make.

I got these today on my 40 draenei shaman (enhancement spec). I was really excited about running SM to get some good mail upgrades, but the 38 hunter that came with us was almost wetting himself. When Herod dropped these, everyone immediately passed but him. He starts spamming, "Can I have these? Plz let me have these! I want them so bad plz plz!" I told him I wanted them too, and rolled... a 100. He rolled an 18, then spent forever begging me to let him have them, begging the group to make me let him have them. He waited so long to click pass I thought he was going to ninja them for sure.

I'm not going to say he didn't deserve to roll (I have a 36 survival spec hunter who would love them), but DUDE! You lost the roll, I wouldn't have rolled if I was OK with just letting you have them, and I have to imagine that an enhancement shaman has at least as good a claim on them as a hunter.

Then I logged onto Alla, and saw I'm not the only person having to fight for their right to Herod's Shoulder... wow. It's a level 37 item, I can't believe people are having aneurisms over it. That's not to say I would have let him have it; I really did need it and I HATE whiners, but if I lose a roll on a mid-level item, I'm just not going to be that upset. Heck, I'd be bummed if I lost a roll on a high level item (and it's happened alot), but I still wouldn't cry like a five year old to try and get people to let me have it anyway.

You know what, complaining and whining will not do any good. It drives me nuts to hear it and its my only problem with the game. Regardless of what the stats are, (my main is a hunter btw) the point is put yourself in the other guys shoes. Most of the whining comes from either -A- a teenager who plays when mommy lets them, or -B- someone with no life. The point is, its still a boss drop and yes, the hunter in the group should be aware of who is with them and let whoever NEEDS the shoulders have them. If not, they are selfish....move on get over it and don't group with them again if you have a problem. Not like there are millions of players out there to group with. And just for the record, everyone should be clear about boss drops before going through the instance, and not argue like children. GEEZ....and one more note....depending on how the run goes, if no other blues drop, and the hunter says they want them...how do you know what their trade is? THE HUNTER MIGHT BE AN ENCHANTER AND WANT TO DISENCHANT THE BLUE DROP. My God, stop WHINING! Play the game to have fun....you will not lose sleep over a missed boss drop, and if you do call a therapist.

(retail) Should be noted that Herod and these shoulders no longer exist, feel free to correct me if I'm wrong. I just went over to SM and couldn't enter Armory. Maybe I was doing something wrong but I don't believe you can get these any longer :(
