If you grew up, a Dinosaur Fan, Loved Jurassic Park, and couldnt get enough of hearing "Not the Mama", Then Un'Goro Crater is the place for you. Teaming with life, This place is a Leather Workers Fantasy, and a Science Buff's first look at Evoloution, at its earliest stages. Fire Elementals, Raptors, Oozes, And Silverback Gorilla's All await you in Scenic Un'Goro crater.

1. Recently Added Both Alliance and Horde Flight path at Marshals Refuge.
2. Atleast three Movie references, Including, Chasing Amy, Jurassic Park, and Congo.
3. Power Crystals, of various colors scattered all over the area, used in various tradeskills. And Quests. Also Good Powerups.
4. Mithril, Truesilver, and Thorium Spawns across the Area.
5. Good Fishing, Plenty of Herbs, But Little in the way of cloth, for tailors.
6. Avoid the Far south if you are allergic to Bees.

Great place to quest. Before it was a flightpath hub this zone was almost devoid of people which made it nice on a PvP server because it decreased your chances of getting ganked. Not sure what it is like now.

Besides that, the area is nice for quests, there are some funny allusions that Blizzard implemented, such as the npc's Muigin and Larion. In reference to Mario and Luigi from Nintendo. Muigin is the alliance person and Larion is the horde quest giver. In my expierence you want to stay away from the one who is hostile because they do come after you if you are really close.

Also there is Linken, the NPC who relates to Link, the Nintendo Hero of Legends. His quest chain starts near a crashed boat in the southeast of the zone which can be found here: https://www.wowhead.com/tbc/object=161505 The quest chain ends with a reward of Linkin's boomerang.

The definite zone to quest in after you're done with Feralas, Tanaris and the Hinterlands. The sheer amount of grinding quests here is matched only by the Horde hub in the Hinterlands. Overall very good for miners, herbalists and especially skinners also. As an added treat for the fire mages, the tar beasts found here are extra weak to fire, making them a joy to farm and grind on. Not to mention the occasional chance for a green blue, or epic item, as well as the Essences they drop. However, the same fire mages should stay away from the volcano in the middle. :)

Also Leatherworkers should note that This is the only place in the game where you can get ravasaur and devilsaur leathers needed for some Tribal leatherworking. The Ravasaurs are easy to grind off of but the Devilsaurs you might need to bring a group to take down.
Another thing to note is that Fireridge is the place where the fire elemental invasion takes place with Baron Charr, making it an awesome grind spot for Hearts, Elemental Fire, and Essance of fires.

Thought I might share a good little trick guys. If you get attacked at Marshall's Refuge by a member of the opposite faction, Don't attack. Simply, run up to where the Flight Master is... And the little troll guard's will take out anyone causing trouble! Simple and effective...

More zone trivia: There are lots of nods to the cheesy 70's series Land of the Lost.

Williden and Hol'anyee Marshall (Will and Holly), pylons, crystals, and a quest entitled "Lost!" are obvious references to the show. Unfortunately there aren't any Sleestaks or Pakuni due to copyrights (which Bliz is careful to avoid directly infringing) but the general theme of the zone is pretty similar.

I love this area. A couple of Nintendo referencces here. "It's a secret to everyone" and Linken is definatly Legend of Zelda. Larion and Muigion are refernces to Super Mario Bros. They are not only a play on names, but Muigion is a stout dwarf in red with blue overalls! Took me a while to figure out myself. Very funny.

Horde and Alliance Flightpaths are located at Marshall's Refuge. Entering from Tanaris, hug the Eastern edge of the crater to avoid the worst mobs. The Refuge is located up in the mountains, along a hidden path near Karna Remtravel (https://www.wowhead.com/tbc/npc=9618). There is no inn, so I usually just keep my Hearth in Tanaris.
Along the way, you'll find different crystal colors and bloodpetal sprouts (https://www.wowhead.com/tbc/item=11315#objective-of), which will both be needed for various quests at the Refuge. Start collecting 'em on the way to save yourself a bit of time.
Don't bother killing anything before you hit the Refuge: they'll have you slaying all of those plant critters and dinosaurs soon enough.
Take a friend if you plan to be spending time here. Plenty of great quests clustered together, but the drop rate is pretty low. Always, always, ALWAYS keep on the lookout during battle. Several Lv 55+ Elite Devilsaurs roam the crater, and if they sneak up on you while you're engaged in combat, you're probably not gonna last too long.

Cool little thing i found out: At the Golakka hot springs, on top of the little waterfall, there is a pond. You can swim in and it is really really deep. If you get to the bottom, you can stay there without running out of air.

Very Handy!
In the SW Area of the map is the Terror Run, if you ever aggro a lot of enemies or just want to run through it without the constant close encounters then you can just do the following:

-Mount taking a distance from all enemies around you
-Run to the Hot Springs a bit NW from the Terror Run
-Jump into the water

You will see that none of the mobs (not even the flying dino-guys) wont follow you and will just stare at you from the shore.
Very useful since all the mobs in there all very close to eachother :D.

I call this place "The free level zone" and i usually go there at level 51. The quests are very easy and are very much soloable..Leveled 4 of my characters here at 51 and soon my paladin will be strong enough to get here to. A tip. The big dinosours are stunnable so use a stun and run :)

If you're looking purely to level, this is the place to be. It has a lot of grinding quests. However, it's not too rewarding in terms of the value of drops. Most of the mobs are beasts or elementals, so it's rare that you'll get a green item dropped. Also, they rarely drop mana-restoring drinks, so if you're a caster, this zone tends to wear you down. Grind a bit in the Blasted Lands if you need cash.

Heh, I've done Un'Goro Crater on all of my characters leveling up (lots), and I never noticed this until today when I was levitating in from Tanaris. There's a freaking Bowser made of mountain in the east side of Un'Goro, I submitted a screenshot. Freaked me out!

So now, instead of the obvious Nintendo references (Linkin, Lario and Muigin), here's another one!

I'm going to go contrary to the glowing reviews of this zone and say that it stinks. If you want to level fast, stay away from this zone.

Many of the quests here involve killing mobs for drops that have really bad drop rates. So you will be grinding a lot of mobs over and over. And while the roaming elites are very large and do have a specific patrol pattern, it's easy to miss. Expect to get nailed a few times if you're not paranoid.

If you're into the Land of the Lost or Jurassic Park atmosphere, by all means visit. But don't expect to level fast here by yourself.

At the location (31,49) is a rather deep underwater pit inside the giant geyser at Golakka Hot Springs. I don't know how this information will help you but I just wanted to point out something I thought was really neat. :)

Just for those who don't know: the entrance to Silithus is in the northwestern corner of Un'Goro Crater. The path has one vine-covered stone pillar on each side of it.

A big warning for people who come to Un'goro, and are grinding Bloodsail rep: the flight point is a Gadgetzan flight point. This means that even approaching it will get you swarmed by Gadgetzan guards, and by the flight master itself. If you do an early Bloodsail Grind, then Un'goro is *not* your questing hub of choice.

Some tricks and such to help a bit around here :).

1. If you don't mind flying every now and then, set your HS to tanaris. Otherwise you'll be stuck running back on your puny 60% mount to the village.... place.
2. Everytime you go back, stock up on food. I'm a warrior, 52, and had to eat every 3-4 mobs. This really gets annoying since there are 0 humanoids around to drop you cloths to make bandages out of.
3. The best way to do quests around here is to simply pound to living crap out of anything you see. Almost all of them are associated (Grammar?) with a quest of some sort.

Haven't leveled a whole lot here yet, will come back to edit if i find something else.

aren't ravagers only in OL? if so, he couldn't tame them being lvl 52.

Draenei hunters (and any hunter in general) can tame low level ravagers on Azuremyst and Bloodmyst Isle. I think their level range is 10-15.

Apparently a new temple or something has appeared on the ridge just to the East of Marshal's refuge. As of right now it is impossible to reach but i am posting some screen shots that eagle eye allowed me to obtain. Apparently they mobs up there are death's hand and are lvl 77. The glowing portal type thing is known as a waygate.

The Waygate and the Temple it is connected with are part of a quest chain in Sholazar Basin in Northrend. The chain is started by talking to Avatar of Freya and takes you through the waygate in The Etymidian.

As of Patch WotLK (3.0.3 i presume) A new portal appeared in the north near Marshal's Refuge called the Waygate apparently impossible to reach by normal methods (I mean no hacks).
Tested on a private server and as well it seems that the portal leads nowhere. Maybe it was a server bug and i wasn't actually trying to repair it.

Just a thing that came to my mind maybe if this Portal appeared as of WotLK and has Northrend Arhitecture signs and Un'Goro Crater is the Equivalent to Sholazar Basin in Northrend it could be a gateway between those 2 but again it's just a thought.

The waygate from Sholazar Basin makes for a quick teleport to southern Kalimdor if in Northrend and wanting to get to southern Kalimdor quickly (ie for grinding rep with Cenarion Hold in Silithus, etc.).

Note: You can go back to Sholazar Basin, but there is no (legit) way back up to the waygate if you jump down. So unless you purposely take a 1-way trip, don't bother looking for a way back up there, use your Hearthstone.

A nice quest combination is to do 'Larion and Muigin' and 'Volcanic Activity' simultaneously, as the sequel to 'Larion' will have you visiting Ratchet anyway, where the Volcanic Activity giver is. Also be sure to escort Ringo back to Marshall's Refuge (A Little Help From My Friends) while you're there.

The waygate in Sholazar Basin can be used for quick travel to this zone, which can prove to be a time saver depending on the situation. Sadly, the waygate is unsuable until you progress a certain way through a quest chain.

The quest chain starts with https://www.wowhead.com/tbc/quest=12621. And the waygate becomes usable when you reach https://www.wowhead.com/tbc/quest=12548.

Note: You WILL need to be able to use a flying mount in Northrend to progress up to the waygate in this chain, unfortunately. :(

The crystals are for a quest, and the green crystals are for some high level engineering recipe. If you go all the way to the end of the cave behind Marshall's Refuge, you can get the crystal quest. (That cave is one of my favorite spots in the game! Pretty!) https://www.wowhead.com/tbc/quest=1041/the-caravan-road

The closest griffon/flying route is in Silithus. In the top left part of the Un'Goro map, there's a little bit of water shaped like a bird head, there's a long steep path to Silithus there, and if you carefully negotiate your way over, there's a neutral spot and a flight path (both Horde and Alliance).

I've seen the eggs, but I don't know if they ever do anything. I would not be shocked if they had something to do with egg quests from Tanaris or Rutheran Village.

I have not seen a brontosaurus, but I have seen some 55ish elite stegasauruses.

Drop rates are lame. I have not gotten anything ever green while hunting here. The exp is nice, but it's mostly a grind thing with very little profit.

Hi, I am a level 49 hunter on dragonmaw, just wondering if I am ready for the zone, usually I go to zones few lvls before I am ready, but wanted to make sure if other hunters been there at my level and how did it go?

This zone definintely drops more epics than any lower area. Kept hearing got shadowblade here or this there. Im only lvl 53 and have already had two epic drops (not incl. the two in Zul'Farrak) one was in STV(underworld band) and in Un'Goro Crater(taran icebreaker). Un'Goro is also a nice place to quest/grind (alot of thorium :P) i do not believe there is a flight path so make sure your armor is all fixed up and ready to go before you head there. gl

Get noggenfogger elixer from vendor in gadget.
Run to the point near Zulfarrak + ungoro meet.
Use noggenfogger elixer until you get lightweight.
Jump off the edge.
Saves you tons of walking around time, and you are 3/4 of the way to marshals retreat, than if you walked there.

Pick up the Ungoro soil quest before you come to the crater. You'll need to gather a bunch of soil for a quest that starts in Darnarsus near the druid trainer. (the quest giver says something about it being better for herbalists, but I didn't see any difference)

You'll eventually need 7 of each colored power crystal, and 15 of the round sprout seeds to turn in for quests at Marshal's refuge.

This area is generally better for soloing than for groups. There are a few quests that work better in pairs, but lots of gather quests. Gather quests take longer for groups than to solo. It's probably good for skinners, but there's not much silver to be had.

At lev. 49 I could handle all of the non-elite MOBs in the north half of the crater, and the Barneys in the SE quarter pretty well. (Watch out for the big wandering Barney though.)

The SW quarter has lots of big elites all over.

This zone is also Blizz's tribute to Land of the Lost--a late-seventies (yes, I'm that old) live-action saturday-morning kid's show. The premise was that a father--Marshall--and his two teenage children--Will and Holly (WILLIDEN MARSHAL and his sister HOLL'ANYEE MARSHAL)--are on a family rafting trip when they fall through a big hole in the earth (i.e. CRATER) into a prehistoric land (creating a WRECKED RAFT). While there, they must deal with DINOSAURS, APE-men who live in CAVES, and creepy lizard-men ("sleestack") who do mystical things with CRYSTALS and PYLONS (which PYLONS contain TABLES OF CRYSTALS laid out in PATTERNS).

As a side note, Marshall Willenholly--Will Ferrell's character in Kevin Smith's Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back is a reference to the same show--"Marshall, Will 'n Holly".

I am a level 48 rogue. I had never been to Un'Goro, but I got the "dirt" quest from the guy in Teldrassil. I figured I could stealth in here, find the soil, and get out. While in Un'Goro I started picking up quests. They were all red for me, but I finished six of them straight away. I did crystals, pylons, gorillas, threshadon carcass, etc. These are great quests for a rogue. Sneak around and pick your fight. Stay away from the mobs you can't handle. Vanish if you get in over your head. I died once when my stealth failed me and vanish was still cooling down. Other than that, I had a great time and felt a little cocky about soloing a bunch of red quests. (I also picked up 43 soil while I was at it. Does it sell well at the AH?)

While heading to Marshalls get the following:
7 of each power crystal (red,yellow,blue,green)

This way when you get to marshalls you already have 2 quests done!

The name Un'Goro Crater might also be based on real-world Ngorongoro Crater in Tanzania, which is the world's biggest volcanic crater and a major wildlife zone.

Did you notice the ravasaurs are wearing little raver necklaces? Rave-a-saurs? gaaaah, somebody at Blizzard has too much time on their hands. Next they'll give us emosaurs that break down crying when you hit them.

One area that I can confirm as relatively 'safe' is this area...

There is a stretch of land that lies between two of the massive trees of the zone. It begins with a tree at approximately 56,29. Go to the southern side of this tree. Then, if you look South and slightly east, you will see another tree at approximately 58, 36 (if you don't see it just head south, southeast). Between these two trees the area is relatively safe from the Tyrant Devilsaurs. Imagine the space between the two trees as a rectangle that stretches south, southeast. Stay within that and you will be safe. Note that there is a Devilsaur that occasionally gets the near the western side of this area, but if you stay in the "safe" area, you should not aggro it. But as always stay alert!

I collected all the Bloodpetals I needed here as well as finishing the quests for Dimetradons and a few others. The mobs in this area are low compared to the rest of the zone (49-51 mostly).

In the cave you get the book of crystals. It tells how the crytals can be used. I assume that we can use the diagrams to determine how to use the power. Is this right?

There is, indeed, a FP in Un'Goro if by chance we havent cleared that... too lazy to find it. Anyways I got 45,5 on Titans. The Flight Master is a Goblin named Gryfe and he has both Gryphons and Wind Riders. If you dont have cords its pretty much if you follow a path up to Marshal's Refuge and if you look at the right there would be a tent ontop of the hill, thats him. If you went in the cave youve gone to far.

BTW some of the quest givers seem to be a little hidden and all over the place, so keep your eyes peeled..

I think the nintendo references are awesome...however, there's at least one reference no one has mentioned.

The NPC Ringo is obviously a reference to Ringo Starr of the Beatles. The quest where you escort him is called A Little Help from my Friends, and Ringo Starr sang the Beatles song "With a Little Help From My Friends."

I'm surprised nobody else noticed it. I'm sure not alot of WoW players listen to the Beatles...but I figured someone did.

For my Horde brothers, before going to this zone for the first time, grab these quests, starting in Org and winding up in Gadgetzan ready to run in:

Un'Goro Soil (Thunderbluff) (must complete Assisting Arch Druid Runetotem, starts in Org)

Bungle in the Jungle (Gadgetzan) (must complete March of the Silithid, also starts in Org. Leads to Pawn Captures Queen, which also happens in Un'Goro)

Bone-Bladed Weapons (Orgrimmar)

Volcanic Activity (Ratchet)

Super Sticky (Gadgetzan)
