Widely considered one of the best PVP enchants for warriors available - one generally either gets Crusader or a weapon chain, or disarm-immune gloves and Crusader.

The +200str proc is 400 attack power for warriors and 200 attack power for rogues. Dual-wielders who choose to enchant both weapons can and often will get both weapons to proc, for an 800 (warrior) or 400 (rogue) attack power boost.

I had to farm for about 14 hours before I got this. It only drops off the spellbinders and they are only in the tower off the road, although you will occasionally find one walking down south away from the tower. Easily farmable with a mage, rogue or lock.

An often farmed formula. Crusader is one of the few enchants that is actually worth it, and still cheap. Great for tanking as a warrior, and rogues when grinding.

Most people grind for days and days. This formula has a 0.01% drop rate. Many people think that then if they kill 1k of these Spellbinder mobs (found @ 54,23 in WPL) they'll eventually get this (as it's not only a great enchant, it sells for a pretty penny too!) This is not true, as like with all drops, every mob is a 0.01% drop rate. So, dropping is PURE luck. Have fun ;)!

I have grinded this so much. Spellbinders spawn 3 on bottom and 3 on top of the tower. Then there are about 2-4 that spawn along the road to the tower also. There may be Avengers, but just kill them and eventually Spellbinders will spawn there too. I grinded this place for about 12 hours once and it never dropped. I got one crummy blue that sold for like 60g =/ I went back another day and got it to drop in about 3 hours. Sold for about 450g. Now they sell for around 250-300g.

as many people said, the spellbinders have an extremely low drop rate on this. some people prefer to just buy it off the ah, but i think farming this pattern is worth it.
also, investing money in this enchant will give great returns. i've seen people charging lots of gold + mats for this enchant.

The enchant itself is awesome. If you plan on farming for this... please use caution. There is usully always someone there. But from personal experience. Please be nice, if you see someone farming it right now. Just come back to the tower later and farm it. Alliance or Horde. If you see someone there, they have probably been there for a long time trying to get it. I know when Im farming it, its a pain having a rouge or somthing start attacking you. But usully when someone sees me farming it, they wave and go on, even if they are of the oposite faction. So if you see somene there, dont attack them, or even try to start farming it along side someone else thats not in your party, its just inpolite.

For an enchanter:

I tried to farm for this, but on my server this place was overcamped and the spawns were fast and unreliable (lots of dying). I would recommend buying this on the Auction House rather than farm for it.

For a farmer:

Some place like Tyr's Hand may be reliable cash-wise... But if you have your heart set on finding this, kill the one type of mob that drops it (Scarlet Spellbinder). The best spawn for this is a small tower, at the top of this arrow shaped cluster of pinpoints on this map: https://www.wowhead.com/tbc/npc=4494. Good Luck.

I've just had my third enchant drop from the spellbinders... after 1982 kills, which gives a drop rate of approximately 0.15%.

The first 2 dropped relatively quickly (after a total of 500 kills or so) but it's taken a lot of farming for this latest one to show up.

My only advice for farming this enchant is to make sure you have the tower to yourself; try to stagger your kills to avoid all 3 spellbinders respawning together; and to take out Durgen (top of the tower) as soon as you can, as he's a bit of a pain with his stuns.

It's pretty straightforward to keep the spellbinders under control - they use frostbolts, slow, and a form of frost nova.

Ya, a guildmate mentioned the other night getting one off a Scarlet Curate (I believe that was the type) in Tyr's hand as well. Someone else mentioned it dropping off Scarlet Crusaders now too.

I was leveling my BE pally in WPL and was clearing the tower in the North Eastern Corner with all the Scarlet Crusader mobs and it dropped off the 4th guy I killed. I just laughed when I saw it because it's worth has dropped so much since TBC came out.

Just got this yesterday after about 1hr of farming. I almost gave up due to the slow respawn. It is about 7min with 6-7 spellbinders to kill each round. Not to mention fighting with other farmers. Luckily I got it to drop before I gave up. I spent another 1hr hoping to get a 2nd one, never dropped.

The above coordinates are correct (54,23) for purposes of finding the Spellbinders; you may come across a couple on your way in, but this is where the vast majority are. Was able to acquire the recipe in about 2-3 hours given the poor spawn rate. Took 116 kills (about 0.8% rather than the 0.4% norm).

I don't know if it's just me or what, but the proc rate seems to have been nerfed into oblivion. I've been killing things for an hour and it hasn't procced for me once, and I an duel wielding it. Can anyone else confirm this?

If you are going to grind this in TBC, I suggest you to head to EPL and to kill archmages in Tyr's hand. They are easily soloable if you are 70lvl, you resist a lot of their spells. I got mine from the 3rd archmage I killed. Good luck, it's worth to grind this.

I am a lvl 53 hunter and in WPL I would love to get this thing bacause I usually see it in ah for about 100-120 Gold on my Realm:Thorium Brotherhood, I have the Weapon Formula's for : Icy,Firey,Unholy,Spirit,Lesser BS and minor BS I am still trying to get the Blue glow +6 and +7 though. I will hed out to WPL and just start ramsacking the Scarlets there and try to get this maybe i will get lucky ?

i must have gotten very lucky with this...i'm reading all these comments about killing 1000's of mobs for it. I got it 3 days in a row all within the 4th clearing of the tower. Sold 115g each time. I gave up now that the tower has gotten crowded(nice world pvp though) and went to farming the mats for it. A righteous orb averages at 35g a piece on my realm...i've seen it jacked up and listed at 110g(which was nice cause listing mine at 75g looked like a good deal). Can't sell the actual enchant for the life of me, but the mats never stay on AH for more than an hour or so.

It's not a place where you would like to die in, the rez place is miles! away.

So it seems that this item is also sold by an npc.

This was a very easy enchant to get. Started killing Spellbinders in front of the tower, and fought my way upstairs.
That's where mine dropped.
For the second time actually, the first time it also took me just a few Spellbinders to get the drop.
Perhaps they changed the droprate?
On Arathor this enchant isn't too often on the AH. Only seen it twice now, for around 250g buyout.

The drop rate for this still seems really low. I went to the tower right after a server restart and got my first one after clearing the tower 3 or 4 times. I did another 100-150 kills after that and no drop. This is consistent with the drop rate displayed here.

Permanently enchant a melee weapon so that often when attacking in melee it heals for 75 to 125 and increases Strength by 100 for 15 seconds. Both healing and strength bonuses have great value for tanks and rogues in PvE, so this enchant is in constant demand from these classes.

At level 70, Crusader gives +60 Strength and heals for 45-75 health.

Drop rate seems to have been bumped, or I am very lucky. Went to the tower to farm 3 of these today, one for me, one for a friend, and one for the AH. Got all 3 within an hour, or roughly 50 kills.

Camped myself at the tower in WPL, killed the 6 mobs, logged out, did something else while they were spawning, logged in and so on. 7th time I did it, the recipe dropped. I think I'm quite lucky as the recipe for Chaotic Skyfire Diamond dropped at the 3rd mob for me too. So all in all, half an hour played time of farming for both of these :p

There are 3 Spellbinders at the bottom of the tower (WPL: 55,23) with one usually circling around the outside. There are 3 Spellbinders at the top of the tower with Durgan. All of them have a 6min 3sec respawn time (approximately). Took me a little over an hour to get the drop.

I think 2.4 just nerfed the spawn for the Spellbinders if anything.
Now there are only 2 on the bottom and top of the tower and one that always spawns at the back of the tower base (inside the walls but outside of the room).

Tyr's Hand is the place to farm for this at 70... there is no waiting for respawns if you kill all the archmages and all the mobs that can respawn as archmages (which is all of them except maybe a half dozen guards on the wall and by the entrances). By the time you are finished with the last mobs, they have started respawning again, so it is 100% killing 0% waiting as opposed to WP where it's more like 95% waiting 5% killing. The pulls inside the church are a little trickier than the ones outside but it shouldn't be too difficult for a level 70, and if it is, you can always just farm outside.

after geting killed by a lvl 70 rogue, and after killing 2 lvl 68 and a lot of lowbies, and after wiping the tower clean of spellbinders about 10 times... it finally droped!!!

I had a lvl 70 at the tower in WPL and a lvl 70 in Tyr's Hand in EPL. I first cleared the tower and the surrounding for all npc (not only the spellbinders). Then logged on my other character in Tyr's Hands and killed all NPCs at the castle except the Scarlet Praetorians (Since they are a pain to kill for warriors with their Holy Shock). Continued this in about 1½ hour until i got the recipe from a Spellbinder.
This way you'll be able to kill all the mobs that drop the recipe and also kill the mobs that could respawn as either Spellbinder or Archmage. Think this is the most effective way to get the recipe.

I farmed this tonight in one session. The drop happened for me in about 2 hours, maybe that will give you some hope. I had a friend finishing Of love and family while I did it, so I took one short break to heal him. I was about to give up cause a rogue and another druid had just shown up to farm as well, but it dropped on one of the last spawns I got on my way down the tower. So happy!

The spawns who drop this, the Scarlet Spellbinders, are non elite mage types level 56-58. Low health, but they can do some not insignificant damage against a lvl 60 if there are 3 of them. They use almost all frost spells, including frost bolt and frost nova. High frost resist and you will take almost no damage. Be prepared for the slowing and immobolizing effects. They will frost nova you and run to range, and then cast frost bolts. They die fairly quickly tho. In cat form it was taking about 10 hits to down one (assuming starting from stealth and behind, I am a feral druid, well equipped btw).

There are three spawns at both the bottom and top of the tower. They aggro together when you attack, and all three were taking me down to about 20% health if I killed them without healing. There is also a spawn that circles the base of the tower, inside the wall, but not on the interior. There is one more spawn that spawns south on the road, and patrols up to the named scarlet hunter, and back down to a camp of scarlet mages. Other adds that you might see insider the tower are a named captain (not elite) who is melee with a 3 sec stun and has a bit of armor. He spawns faster then the spellbinders, and starts at the top of the tower, and patrols from there, down to the base, then out front, where he stops by each of the stationary tower guards, before going back to the top of the tower. There is also another Scarlet avenger who circles the base of the tower along the same root as the spellbinder. The avengers are fast melee (duel wielders) with some armor and no special attacks I saw. There are two guards in from of the tower who are also avengers, but you can avoid their aggro once inside the tower, if you are level 60.

As said before, they do frost damage with movement impairing effects. After taking them down the first time at the base, then killing the named on the stairs, and then killing all three on top, I found if I waited for the repop, they could be killed one at a time as the respawned, limiting the damage taken by having the two in the background. Also, killing the named as soon as he popped help keep him from sneaking up on me. At about 15% health the spellbinders try to run, so be ready. This isn't too much of a problem on top of th tower, but at the base they can run out front and aggor the two guards. The avengers and named don't try to run.

Going to Use the pattern, so I am very happy it dropped, saving me 300g (the current price on Kilrogg). If I do go back, and find another, I'll probably auction it for 50g, 150 Buyout, because I believe our server's price is a bit absurd...

and thinking about past drops you were farming for... were you constantly lucky against the odds?

after killing 66 there is a 10% chance you'll get at least one
after killing 140 there is a 20% chance you'll get at least one
after killing 223 there is a 30% chance you'll get at least one
after killing 319 there is a 40% chance you'll get at least one
after killing 433 there is a 50% chance you'll get at least one
after killing 572 there is a 59% chance you'll get at least one
after killing 752 there is a 70% chance you'll get at least one
after killing 1005 there is a 80% chance you'll get at least one
after killing 1438 there is a 90% chance you'll get at least one

For the guy that got this after the 15th kill, he had a 2.37% of taht happening.
For the guy that got this after the 27th kill, you had a 4.23% chance of that happening

for the guy who got this after 550 kills, you were in the 58.55% chance of getting it by then, consider yourself fairly lucky

No one cares how fast you got it or if you really did get it in 27kills or 500 kills its not gonna discourge most theyl try it anyways, most of you lie as well yes its possible but does it really matter? save your "i got it after 10 kills" cause no one cares not after about 100 other people saying somethin on the lines of that, that goes for all long awaited drops. just post the info, let a few give thier exp on how fast or long it takes to drop and leave it at that, its even a waste of time for me typing this.

I was a level 54 and was doing the quest that takes you to the top of the tower to loot a box for some chain quest. I went with my guild, I was in “The Holy Knights” at the time and we had a full party, we killed all the guards on the way up and random stuff dropped. People in the guild said that this was the only place that the crusader enchant dropped, it did not and no one was surprised.
The next day I was questing in the western plaguelands and someone ask me if I would help them with a quest, it was the same one that I had done the day before, so I said yeah I know where it is and I would help. We went to the tower killed all the guards got the quest item then started looting the bodies and a green formula came up in the window, it was the crusader enchant, I expressed greed, he expressed greed, I won. Then another formula came up in the window, it was the crusader enchant, I expressed greed, he expressed greed, I won.
My heart was beating so hard, I ask him if he had completed the quest? He said he had, I said “g2g good luck and have fun” and left. I don’t think he knew what the crusader enchant was. I announced the good news in guild chat and everyone expressed how lucky I was and “gratz”. A little while later I thought, what am I going to do with two of these, and what would be the right thing. So I looked back in chat and found the guy’s name that I was questing with, whispered him and told him that we had found two very high level enchanting formulas and that I was going to send him one and “don’t sell it cheap”.
The enchanter in our guild that I run instances with just made 300 and I still had it in the bank, so I gave him the other copy.

I think I am too nice for this game.

OMG... my dumbass husband and his friend went up to do a quest in the area that this drops and they BOTH got one within 20 minutes... The worst part? I'm an enchanter. Neither of them are. Guess where it went? AH/Trade channel

Went there today to farm (3-5-08) took me about 40 mins and one dropped. Killing the 3 Spellbinders on the bottom of the tower and the 3 on the top. And the occasional Spellbinder that pats around the bottom outside ring of the tower. 6-7 Spellbinders each spawn. In that time i killed about 40-50 of them to get the drop. I was very quick with killing them
after they spawned and kept running up and down to farm at max efficiency. Use that at a timetable for trying for the recipe.So hope that helps anyone looking to find one. Goodluck

Just began farming in WPL and realized that it's way inefficient to kill these guys rather than the archmages in Tyr's hand because there are less of them AND they have a lower drop rate. If you're a 70 looking to get the enchant, i strongly suggest going to tyr's hand. After about 30 kills there i got the chant as well as one green (off the rare in the building) and an epic trinket (Lifestone) off my third archmage. It took me less than 30 min overall (including the time traveling from WPL to EPL) to get this enchant

Got in an aurgument with a guildie about where this drops. Have only read off the Spellbinders in the Tower in WP. Anyone else heard different? Been in this dam tower 2 1/2 lvl's and have close to 900 kills without a single drop.

pretty pissy though cause once corpses disappeared before i could loot them and another time i had no chat lag or any other lag, but when i reached down to loot, nothing happened, i walk away for 40 seconds and come back... and it says nothing to loot. suspicious $%^& going on.

cleared the tower twice and got this formula twice, my guild enchanters will be very happy. i'm a 60 war with a TuF, they were very easy to kill. On the top floor, instead of going up the stairs, select the spellbinder directly above you when you're at the final set of steps to the top. Just jump and you can hit the spellbinder and it will come by itself. Then you're just left with the other 2, easy =)

well a friend of mine invite me to go with him to farm the crusader and i said ok i have nothing to lets go....

so we went to the tower started killing those humans up and downn down and up...

the server went off 2min later we log in in front of the tower... started killing again those spellbinders.. and i said "dude im going to bed im tired of these &*!@" *10min after server restart*

he said" ok iam gonna be here just a little"

just when i reached undercity i said "yessssssssssssss"
i droped

did one crusader on myself just for helping him....

OMG! I FARMED FOR 45 MINUTES AND GOT 4 FREAKING FURMUALAS! (plus random greens and a blue)! EVERY1 HAS GOT TO TRY THIS! EDIT: sold for 2150g :P (sold for 537.5g each)

246 kills, ~5 hours, it dropped.

Had a little competition with other horde players, so I blew shards shadowburning the spawns before they could tag them and they left within 15 minutes.

Also got 11 stacks of runecloth, 15g in silver loot, 6 or 7 greens, a Two of Beasts card, 15-20 greys, and 2 Thorium Lockboxes.

A 63 elite occasionally spawns on top of the tower.

I got this to drop for me today, was ofcourse happy, but also surprised, since it dropped off a Scarlet Archmage in Tyr's Hand. Perhaps their loottables have been changed due to TBC coming or something.. But you don't hear me complaining :)

This dropped while I was soloing AH... lol. Got it for 5g! I had been looking for it forever on AH and had never seen it below 100g. It was my lucky day I guess. I don't care about the nerf, if you are under lvl 60 this is the same enchant it was before BC. Haven't seen one on AH since (2 weeks ago).

Took me about 4 hours of solid killing to get mine to drop this very minute. Hang in there and it will come eventually. I'm lvl 70 so I could kill them fairly quickly so it was tedious and slow waiting for respawn. in the end I just began to surf different forums trying to find different enchanting "drop" recipes that I could proceed with after getting this, while waiting for respawns :)

May 24th, 2008. just days after the other guy posted on the 22nd, the SAME thing happens to me. After spending almost 2 hours farming for it from the spellbinders, the formula drops! Then as Im clearing the rest of the spellbinders before I leave, it drops again 3 kills after the first one! Very weird.

our group of 4 guildies happened to be passing a tower, I mentioned it only had spellbinders insider which we didn't need for our quest. We dicided to kill them anyways since our priest said they dropped the enchant.

The tower couldn't have had more than 7 spellbinders inside it yet we came away with the enchant nonetheless = D

We all kind of laughed and didn't realize how lucky we were (except for our priest of course).

Well, i farmed that tower quite alot, i must admit... But when i didnt actually wanted to farm it, when some horde was ganking in HG, i simply ran away from them and cleared the tower.
Result: 1 drop from bottom 3 dudes, and 1 more from top dudes.

Feeling mischievous I let my enchanter put the crusader on a copper axe (lvl 4) just to find out what happends when a lvl 4 warrior gets +100 strength.
I had'nt calculated on the reactions from my fellow players though - some where amused others furious. Made it worth while :)
...well what happends when the Crusader procs for a lvl 4 warrior - well he wins the fight at hand in the next blow whaaaaaam!
Gonna sell the axe to the highest bidder when I get tired of it. 50g ?

i dont know if its on a timer or something, but its sure isnt random.. if it drops one night, it wont drop until the next night.. thats how it seem to be working for me.. i have found 6 so far.. after farming for baout 3 weeks.. 2 hours a day.. around 12am-2am, when the pally NPC come fight some mobs there.. some kinda Role Play, not sure.. at first i thought it was for a quest..

What is frustrating is the Spawn rate of those Spellbinders.
I'm at 2.5 hours of Grinding them, no formula yet.
But 15g, and 35 Heavy runecloth bandages (70Runecloth), 5 Greys and a Travlers Backpack.

I was grinding lockpicking in Tyr's Hand. One of the mobs resisted so I decided to kill it. Then that dropped. Didn't even know it only drops from two mobs in the game, since I'm not an enchanter.

Ok, had to share my story on this one. Farmed last night for about an hour, got sick of waiting for respawns and moved on. Came back too it this morning, cleared the tower once and waited for respawns. Formula dropped on the second kill. So, I figured since I am here, might as well clear the rest of the tower and within 2 min I had the formula for mooncloth bags as well as another Crusader formula. So, basically 2 crusader formulas in less than 5 min. Kept one for myself and put the other on the AH at a hefty price as there has not been one on there in ages. Good luck to those farming this one.

I finally learned about the Spellbinders last night, and I went to try it out.

A rogue was camping the spawns in the tower, so I killed the few that patrol down the road, and left after about 5 kills.

I woke up this morning only about 300g away from my epic mount, so I decided to go back to the tower.

No one was there, so I camped the tower.

Killed the bottom 2, went to the top, killed the 3, came back down, and killed those 2 about 3 or 4 more times.

So, on about my 15th kill, the formula dropped. =O

Teleported back to Org and popped it up on the Auction House for 400g, 500g BO

I'll post back if it sells

Farmed overall for 3 hours tonight and got it. Had to compete against a Hunter though he kept to the upstairs and I got downstairs. 2 hours passed before he left and then a Mage came along for a half hour before either logging or hearthing.

30 minutes later it drops. Going to farm a little longer since I got the place to myself for the slight chance of a second drop people mention here. I'll edit if it happens (though deep down I doubt it)

Edit: 10 minutes later Stonegrip Gauntlets dropped and a 60 Warrior and Rogue come in and kill the mobs outside, taking the downstairs area and leaving upstairs for me. 'Least I got something else :D! Then Arcane Pads dropped a couple minutes later before I decided to hearth to get some sleep.

I was at Tyr's hand farming Crusader, because I'm a lvl 70 shadow priest/enchanter and I didn't have that enchant ( In the past farming it with bots around was almost impossible so I never went to get that enchant. ) Now, it dropped for me on the 5th Archmage that I killed, and so I tried to get another one and I noticed that a random group of bodyguards, lvl 60 elites spawned and walked into where I was and I ran so not to be ganked by 5 lvl 60 elites. I noticed one title was "bodyguard" and that's all I noticed. When I snuck back to that area they were gone, they just disappeared. It's like a random spawn that is a patrol of 5 lvl 60s and it disappears! So, is that a spawn to kill farmer bots? Haha ;0) If so that's great!

I calculated some.. and with 0.18% drop rate you have to kill max 556 spellbinders if you are the only one farming there.. otherwise someone else got it when it dropped

i went out there Saturday Morning got one off the second one i killed at bottom of tower. I immedietly rushed to sell irt for 325G. Came back about 5 hours later. Another dropped off the 2nd one i killed!. Sold that one for 300G. came back next morning and ANOTHER one from the second one i killed Sold that one for 300g. Me and my friend were farming Runecloth at Tyr's and I'm like 'Want to give crusader drop a shot?' and she's like 'sure.' An hour or so later, it dropped ^^ 'twas verry happy a time.

You can fid it on the auction house on Steemwheedle Cartel EU server for 275g BO and 245g Bid :) 'tis being sold under Zygomatic.

Found 10 in 2 days of the cs's found one my furst try went back got 3 more that night. the next day stayed there til i got 5 then went back for 1 more laterm doesnt take long at all think i got the 5 in less than 3 hours, but they dont sell so good on my realm only about 95g each and even that takes some time to find someone.

Scarlet Spellbinders are the only mob that drops this.

Personally over three days I've been at this now 16 hours killing as many of these as I can, not a sniff of it yet, I've even put a ticket in to the GM to see if it exsists on Terenas any more.....

I would reccomend no one buy this enchant for your weapon. Blizzard has aparently changed it so it hardly ever procs anymore. I had it before this recent patch and it proced fairly often but now that I have gotten it for my new dagger I have been fighting mobs for one hour and it has yet to proc. Just a simple warning

FINALLY !
Ok after litterally 30ish hours of doing this on and off for two weeks it dropped after about 2 hours of farming on Sunday.

A thought that might help future hunters.......
I realised last night that during my time of farming for this 3 dropped, since then my one AND another has dropped too.

ALL (yes you are reading this right) of them dropped off the mobs downstairs in the tower.

I don't know if this is just coincidence or not, I spent 30 hours mostly farming the upstairs, it wasn't till last night I thought about it on reflection they all dropped downstairs.

I hope this information becomes usefull to some poor soul who wants to find this......

And Magicjar you must be doing something wrong then, I put this on one of my friends pally's 2 hander and it procs left right and indeed center, sometimes 2-3 times in a fight, get your agility boosted so you get the crit strikes increased.

Proudmoore Alliance has 5 on the AH, lowest being 80g now and it's not selling. Blizz announced it would be nerfed for players above 60, and of course new shinies in the expansion means this isn't worth a penny now. :-(

I've picked up four of these in two hours. That's a *helluva* lot more than in previous weeks, and I'm wondering if they've upped the drop rate, or if I just got lucky.

I notice that the prices on Agamaggan's Horde AH have been dropping, too. An 80g buyout is pretty common now.

Decided to kill them in WPl.

so i killed 665 none dropped.

Next thirty seven i killed all dropped crusader recipe. I didn't know what to do!
Within 10 minutes of being in my home town i sold them all to this one guy for 8000g a peice, nice money.

I went back the next day, none within the first 665, but lo and behold the next 37 dropped some more! wow!

So now i have 6019 epic mounted, 195 boe epics (Thats all boe epics fyi), and six billion gold, thanks to these babies

It dropped yesterday for me, downstairs as another horde was about to jump my camp. Later that day an old guild mate had farmed 2, maybe they increased the drop rate, maybe it was bugged, might be worth trying now anyways.

Oki this is my story of getting it (or my partymemb got it ) : We were out and doing the kill quest when you kill the guy at the tower with the spellbinders. I asked him what proffs he had (keept in mind that crusader could drop) , tail/ench he replied. Continued and told him about crusader and he wanted to try some , BOOOM 3rd kill it drops.

I managed to get 2 Crusader in 3 days (the first one I have learnt and the 2nd one in my bank) after a guildy asked me to learn it. My lvl 60 undead mage have killed about 135 Spellbinders so far. Is it because the drop rate has improved? Maybe I will farm it again these 2 days to check out this.

I find messages that say things like - I got this on my second drop...brag,brag,brag - really annoying. This helps nobody.

I farmed the tower with 6 Spellbinders for 4 nights. I was ready to give up and thought it was Bull! BUT success - it finally dropped - so yes it does drop eventually. But they don't drop anything else that interesting.

Man, I'm so lucky. Got this off a Scarlet Spellbinder after only (get this)... 300 KILLS! Yes, you heard me, only 300! Wow, I'm so blessed. And to top it off, I got about 20 stacks of runecloth, some random recipes and greens, and more Alterac Swiss cheese than I could shake a stick at! And all for 4 hours of my life that I'll never get back!

Folks, this is a rare drop, don't let anyone tell you otherwise. Ignore the "I got it after 3 kills" posts; they'll give you a false sense of hope. It's more than likely gonna take you a LONG time over more than one session. I was doing this so long that when I went to sleep at night, people in my dream were wearing Scarlet Crusade tabards and yelling that I had the taint of the scourge on me.

If you're farming this for profit... HAHAHA! Unless you have absolutely NO life, I'd suggest finding a better use of your time. You'll probably make more money on the countless stacks of runecloth that will be cluttering up your packs after an hour or two of farming than you will on the pattern anyway. I'd only suggest farming this if you or an alt will actually use it. If not, save your sanity and run an instance or do something fun with your WoW time.

As for all the stuff everyone knows already: yes, a Scarlet Spellbinder dropped it. There's three at the bottom of the tower and three at the top (with Cavalier Durgen. The tower is located at 54-55,23 in WPL. These are the only fixed location for Spellbinders that I'm aware of.

Spellbinders also appear in patrols. These patrols spawn either Spellbinders or Scarlet Avengers. If you're farming, kill the pats even if they're Avengers so the next one might spawn a Spellbinder. The patrols are:

Around the tower.
Right outside the tower. Starts under the tree and heads south down the road.
Near the hunter camp with Huntsman Radley (location 57,35), patrols over and south to the roadblock. Actually two different pats of one mob each. It was one of these that ended up actually dropping the enchant for me.
Pat south of the roadblock.

There may be others, but those are the ones I concentrated on (besides the fixed ones in the tower). To make it even more annoying, the tower Spellbinders don't respawn at given intervals, they respawn +/- a minute or two. This makes it so you have to make more than one trip up and down the tower if you're impatient or bored (which you will be doing this) and jump in and kill them as soon as they spawn.

As for boredom... for yucks, head away from the tower entrance, up over the hill near the path, and down to an NPC named Kirsta Deepshadow at 51,28. She has a few Crusader-related quests you can do while you're farming. Breaks the monotony a bit.

And as for how the enchant works... no clue, I just got it :-) But from what I've heard, the other posts in this chain are pretty accurate.

Now back to actually having FUN playing WoW..

Farmed this formula for 15 hours straight today.

I got 40g in coins, 20g from vendor, 500 runecloth but, guess what, no crusader.

Hurray for my luck!

Pretty sad when you're disappointed that an epic drops instead of Crusader. :) Brain Hacker dropped on the 38th kill. Crusader dropped on the 58th. Since someone else had just shown up to farm, it was one of those "just one more then I'll leave" situations. Yay!

368runecloth / 8 major healing pots 1 major mana pot two green %^&*ty items, 22g47c (pure cash) and a butt that fell asleep is what i got from killing 158 lvl 57 and 160 lvl 58 scarlet spellbinders, play on low poped server had the place for me own all night long but no crusader droped. its totaly up the the gods from blizzard if you gona get this in 1 kill or 1 year of killing. i ended up buying it on AH for 50g

my suggestion is to stick to outlands and farm money eventualy it will end up on AH rather than you be stuck there thinking one more round bottom to top and i might get it. if i leave now someone else will get it after my hard work. bah!

There is an lvl 63 elite with the spellbinders, or is he just on the balnazzar server? Makes it impossible to solo farm this enchant! (for me anyway)

Edit; The elite was gone when i tried another time.. But it´s still hard as hell for me (a lvl 60 rogue) to take 3 lvl 58 spellbinders all by myself! ;(

Well after a month or 2 farming I finally got it ( I didnt farm for it non stop but I did for about 2 weeks, then stopped one week, then farmed non stop again for about 1 weeks )

Dropped on my 7th kill. After much debating I decided to train it since I'm an enchanter, but I continued to farm some more since I needed money for my epic mount. Of course since then I've killed about 600 of them and no more have dropped. Also, I just heard a rumor that crusader is going to be a trainable enchantment in TBC (which may or may not be true), but at any rate, it's getting nerfed 4% for each level above 60. :( I think I'm better off just farming Hearthglen.

Long-time reader, first-time poster.

When I heard from a coworker I could find Crusader in both WPL and EPL, I decided to drag the level 70 over to kill everyone.

less than a minute, first kill, first drop. made my heart smile. :p

dropped in WPL, by the way, on the spellbinders. can supposedly drop in EPL from the archmages there, but the droprate is much much lower.

Decided I wanted this enchant formula, went to Western Plaguelands to the small building at 54.23. Killed 4 spellbinders and the one on top of the building up the staircase dropped it. Total of maybe 3 minutes to get it. I'm either really lucky or it is much too easy to get for the price the formula sells for!

Went up to the tower near Hearthglen killed about 8 or 9 spellbinders. Looked everywhere else I could to find more with no luck, so I was about to leave and go farm the archmages for it and saw a lonely spellbinder on the road back and it dropped the enchant. I was expecting to spend hours and was quite happy.

But I figued what the hell, so im bored right now before server maintainence adn figured I would farm for the forumla. Well I went to WPL to the tower.
And I swear to god, literally first kill I got it. Gonna stick around maybe get anotehr to make soem money. I highly reccomend farming before spending your gold. You just never know

Over on the spellbinder mob page, someone's calculated it out as needing about 370 spellbinder kills to get 50/50 odds of Crusader dropping.

From what I can see - and I've been doing this for a while now - you can expect 6.5 spellbinders on every respawn. Three downstairs, three upstairs & a mob walking around the tower who swaps between spawns as an avenger or a spellbinder.

From looking at the server clock, it looks to me like the respawn timer for everyone other than cavalier durgan seems to be ~5 minutes. Durgan seems to be more like 2-4 minutes.

So lets be *really* optimistic: You get 7 spellbinders every spawn & the spawns only take 4 minutes.

That's 52.8 full spawns needed (lets call it 52, you're really lucky)... so that's 208 minutes, or 3 hours and 28 minutes.

On my server, Crusader generally goes for 125-175g nowadays.

Any level 70 character who can't earn significantly more than 175g in 3.5 hours needs to rethink their farming strategy.

For a level 60ish character it may be worth it though - you'll be getting XP anyway and it's harder to earn money at that level.

(Yes, I've excluded the value of green/blue/runecloth drops... but I've also excluded repair/materials costs and gone for the lowest possible timeframe for 50/50 odds... the 6 spellbinders every 5 minutes version works out at about 5 hours and 8 mins for 50/50 odds).

It took me over the course of 5 days, 979 Spellbinder kills, and 150+ durgen kills(yea he doesn't drop it, but when you farm the tower, he's the annoying fly), and I finally got mine tonight.

I hate that tower.

The good thing about it is, in 1 day, while farming for Crusader, you can collect about 500 runecloth and turn it in for rep. So its a win win.

well, if you end up with crusader it is, other wise it just plain sucks.

i was prepared for a long haul of farming for this enchant for my lock (even longer from the sounds of some other posts i saw). so i was very happy when it dropped from only the second kill. more than that, i think i was the only one there. i saw a tauren pass through but that was it.

i don't think it makes a difference, but i got it off a spellbinder from the first tower before the gates to heartglen.

Well, based on my experience the drop rate seems about right. I farmed for 30 min to an hour 6 or 7 times, probably killed about 200 and finally got this. Now here's the question: Do I sell this? If so, how much? I've seen on AH (on Andorhal server) for 300g buyout usually, but I know people have sold for 400 to 500g. I do need my epic mount...

On the other hand, I'm an enchanter. I could learn it and sell enchants. How much do people usually pay for this enchant?

Well I used to farm the scarlet crusader tower alot to get these recipes, but it seems Blizzard has figured out how easy it is and has added a lvl 63 (elite) Healer to nerf the farmining. it is still doable you just have to pull the individual Spellbinders and then CC the clerist.

12-03-07, went up to the tower on a whim and cleared it twice. Was about to leave and saw a small thorium so I mined it, came back and waited for respawns. Cleared all 4 of the spellbinders in the bottom and one dropped. Cleared to top, waited for respawns again and a second dropped from the mobs in the bottom again not 5 minutes after the first. I found the tower to be extremely hard for my level 58 mage.

Very easy for a 60 mage to farm. Keep dampen magic on. IAE on 3 at bottom, then IAE the 4 at top. Most of the time is spent waiting for repops. Average farm should be about 16 hours according to drop rate. The enchant itself procs 1.5 times a minute on average, I have parsed it over extended periods.

Don't bother buying the scroll for moneymaking, everyone and their cousing has it and prices plummet fast. Say I spent 100g for the scroll and now I would get 10g profit per enchant with AH mats. With all the competition it could take months to sell 10 to cover the cost of the scroll alone. And the time you spend in IF you could be farming gold at higher rate than it brings. Useless

i thought to myself: " bah, what the hell "

after nailing the 3rd spellbinder i nabbed the formula, went upstairs and finished the rest, i got a 2nd :D i went insane, thats my alts epic mount bought and payed for :)

I found this on my 20-30th person, me and a undead Rogue teamed up and took turns killing the guys.

Shocked how quick I got it. Gave it to a guildy friend for lending me 200g cash to help purcahse a Destiny for me ( Which btw rules with crusader on it ).

He was sure happy to finally get crusader on his list of enchantments. =)

First night I went to go farm and a lvl ? warrior Orc was there, he knew I was there for the same reason, and everytime a stupid Spellbinder would spawn he would attack it first. when multiple's, he would attack them all...

I hated that, but tonight I was going there for the Lightbearer quest and it dropped by the 2nd Spellbinder? i about crapped myself!

i have crusader on both my daggers...
i am not sure whether or not it is supposed to start the timer over, because sometimes it does reset and start again at 15 sec of strength...and sometimes it doesnt.

it seems to proc a considerable amount more when low on life. if im in a fight and losing my last 10 or so melee attacks all proc crusader.
Also, i have had this recipe drop for me 4 times.
first 1 i learned...
second went to friend...
3 & 4 sold for 320+g
my friend on my server followed my exampleof not returning to town and started logging out at the tower, and logging in at the tower...
he is now at 6 drops.
he has sold 1 for 500g and another for 600g

Loc The tower is to the east of Heartglen, its marked on the map, spell binders are also sometimes on the road south of it.

2 nights farming and Ive gotten more Runecloth than I can handle, a Thorium Lockbox, green boots, green gloves and the Two of Portals... which is just salt on the wound really, getting a blue item thats worth less than 5g on my server

OK. So my Enchanter (a level 40 Rogue who also has Elemental Leatherworking) is getting close to the big recipes, and I wanted to get him this very nice one. So I went first to the AH, and saw that it was available for 100g, which is about 90g more than I'd pay. Oddly enough, Mendeleev says it's a vendor item, and so does Thottbot (and of course this website).

Vendor? Wow, that would change things. But I suspect that some poor shlub sold it to a vendor in Refuge Pointe and then bought it back real quick. I suspect a lot of the "false vendor" reports stem from incidents like that.

Nope, only one thing for it. Send my level 61 Warrior out to farm for it. Yuk. I hate doing that. He's my chara of choice for such instances, such as gathering Wildvine to help three charas through the Wild Leather quests, plus an Alchemist; and of course he's the source of Runecloth for my Tailor. What can I say? I'm a crafting maniac.

Armed with the comments here, I went to the tower. Between the Spellbinders along the road and the ones in the tower, I killed 31 before giving up. I learned the hard way that you should not go into the upper floor alone; Cavalier Durgen and three Spellbinders will really ruin your day. Instead, I hit the ones on the ground floor and waited for respawns. I had managed to get them into a cycle where one would appear, then a few minutes later another and then the last one. Which was a lot better than trying to fight all three at once. Occasionally the one wandering around the inner bailey of the tower would be a Spellbinder, and I'd pick off him or her; I also found a Small Thorium vein that spawned twice while I was there, and made a side trip to Hearthglen, which sounds like the Scarlet Crusade's retierment community.

But no Crusader.

Despondent, I mounted up and rode away. I saw a wandering Spellbinder along the road and pondered "How many times do you get what you want just when you've given up?" So I engaged and-- got one square of Runecloth.

Number thirty three, though, who was in one of the little bunkers you see on the way in, had it.

Huzzah! So I got it somewhere between the mopes who claim to have found it on the third kill and those who kill three hundred with no luck. That's random numbers for you. I now have to farm for Righteous Orbs, because they're almost as expensive-- but that's another story.

I farmed a total of about 4-5 hours and about 100-150 kils before it finally dropped. Just keep running up and down in tower to kill the Spellbinders before they spawn 3 at a time.

Not to get involved in the arguement about how many you have to kill, but the whole idea of randomness means, basically, you could get the thing on your first kill, or you could literally never see it. There's a random chance PER MOB that that mob will have it; and the game doesn't keep track of how many mobs you've killed without getting the drop. It, like life, doesn't care.

Well I've been farming the tower on and off for three days while waiting for AV this past weekend (about 2 hours a day), still haven't seen it.

'Course each time I'm splitting the spawn with somebody else farming it for cash, whereas I'm looking for it to mem so I can enchant for my guild. Finally got my arcanite rod and really want this for both myself (60 prot/retri pally), and guild tanks.

OMG! this dropped for me after about 30min farming the spellbinders.I was just about to hs to orgrimmar and put it on AH but then I remembered the countless times ive read about multiple drops. And O M G! it dropped again third mob after the first one that dropped! Amazing!

ROFL i farmed for like 15 minz and then the mighty crusader dropped... i was abot to hs to org and ah it but then i thought of all the times i have read about multiple drops so i farmed for 20 more mins and once again the mighty crusader dropped! i couldent belive it!

was on my friend's rogue for farming and I decided i've it a shot(expecting I'd have to kill 9000 of these guys). 3rd spellbinder = drop.

there was a shaman who spent all day farming for it, I told him about my 3rd kill, he was like wtf. 5minutes later, he got his. I'm good luck.

Ok when I was 60 I farmed this place nonstop for days... Now that I'm 70 I decided what the hell I was gonna try for it again. I came up to the tower and started to kill spellbinders. Got to the top and killed the third one and it dropped. Waited for them to respawn and got it again. Seeing how my server is rather new the AH prices have jumped to 400g for this enchant. Well now I have 1 Crusader enchant and some blue Design that I traded for. Its all luck I guess. Here I come epic Flying mount.

My guild mate pulled out two of these suckers in 3 days, sold one for 300g and gave me the other at a fraction of that. Apparently mage is the class to do this with. I can kill about 50 an hour as a rogue at 58, but that's still close to 1 day for an average drop.

God damn Blizzard must love me too.
Was going to Hearthglen to mine and killed 8 of these mobs which were spawned at the time.
All 8 dropped the crusader formula, WOW.
I went back to Ironforge right away and sold all 8 to a female dwarf hunter for 900 gold each.

I farm this on a weekly basis. Usually i am there for a couple hours at a time. Some days i walk away with 5 or 6 of these, others i only get 1 or 2. Easy money making on the AH though.

Whats up with the mobs that drop this recipe? Currently only listing Archmages (Tyrs Hand) but not the Spellbinders in WPL.

Edit: Fixed now and i just got the recipe after 12hrs of farming.

So i went to farm this... recipe... and it wasnt fun. 1.13 classic wow... 912 mobs it took me, i... dont want to farm anything like this again, the respawn time isnt THAT bad, but it still feels crappy just waiting for them to respawn... Another guy came to farm after i got the recipe, and it took him 20 mins :./

As Disco Priest from late 57 to 59 and a half i farmed the tower. I calculated exp/mob exp and i killed more than 1200 Spellbinders, collected around 10g, 600 runecloth, trash items for around 50g and at the end i got the recipe which it costs 120-180 in my realm since i am enchanted i will use it. It take me around 12-15 hours /played.

In vanilla I farmed this alot, I think I found 2 my entire career. The first I learned the 2nd for dough.
This go around I've had ALOT better luck, I got my first about 10 minutes in. Promptly learned it within a day or so of being 60. I then proceeded to farm it a couple hours every evening and it took 2 weeks before I got my 2nd to sale on the AH. Now today, I was bored looking for a group so figured I'd farm while waiting for the dungeon and about 20 minutes in. It just dropped!

I know the drop rate is horrible for this. But i'm just beating the odds for the moment. GL Jubilee Atiesh Classic

Got this enchant after spending a steady 5 hours of farming, and having to compete with other players and those amazing cry babies who /flag and spit and taunt for a fight. I kept my cool, stuck it out, did my best to snag the npcs as fast as I could and out of all of the farming. I got this enchant, but I also did get an orb of deception, a few greens and loads of runecloth. So glad I picked up tailoring, so I'm set on mats to d/e :D.

GL out there to those farming, don't give up and just keep at it. I've also killed the lv 63 elite rare Scarlet High Clerist 3 times (sadly no epic dagger drop). I got what I needed and don't want to return here unless I'm given a quest to return.

Another example of low-droprate craziness. 0.5 % (recently went down to 0.4) - which means one drop in every 200 kills on average. A friend of mine had two drops in his first 80 kills, 5-8 drops in a total of ~350 kills. Easy money, Mr Armak thought. Months later I'm still slaughtering those Spellbinders at 1233 kills (!). My personal chance of not having seen at least one formula is 0.206946726 %.
Let's see how small I can make this number. I've spent a total of ~ 40 hours farming. Including sharing the tower with another person, including fighting annoying ~~!@#$%^&s~~ hunters of the same faction coming by and aggressively taking all mobs, including arriving and instantly leaving (closed due to overcrowding) and including fighting the alliance which is a bad idea being a tank warrior and being in a tower with stairs - easy job for casters.
All in all: Not very good for chasing those 300 g on the auction house. I hope for overcompensation after my first drop (if it ever occurs). 12 drops in the next 100 kills and I'm okay with it.

Pro tip: Give it a try only once. Do 50 kills. No drop? Buy it from the AH, don't farm this. The mobs don't even drop ANYthing of relevance, ecxcept maybe random world drops. At about 50 % they only drop gold. My best loot was one of those darkmoon cards, 50 g. And occasionally a major mana potion. A complete waste of time - but I can't stop now.

Edit: Secretly, I only complained here to force the drop. And after 1285 kills it dropped! After that I roughly did 200 more kills- the second drop is yet to come :/

On my 550th kill, a Warrior managed to gank me and steal my mob. He logged onto his Horde toon and linked me the imagr of crusader. It dropped on THAT very mob and he stole. I could break something. Now I'm obsessed.

So while in vanilla i literally got it from my first mob ( or actually a horde players mob that i killed ) it now took me 861 kills so i guess the universe always balances itself out..and the best thing about it ...since the loot is created during the mobs spawn, while i was grinding the tower for hours the mob with the formula in the bag was already patrolling down the forest path ...luckily it was nighttime

They really should increase drop rates on ALL of these kind of things. It's not like they are going to be on the auction as hardly anyone is putting anything on there these days.
The amount of farming involved in getting this, and quite a few other recipes, is ridiculous . and then there is the orbs, MORE damn farming, really they should call the game world of farming, or farming weekly, or farming for no return for the rest of your life...
After countless hours, and God knows how many spellbinders, no formula, it's not my idea of fun, and certainly is NOT what I want to be doing with my valuable WoW time.

And here I am again, almost a year later and still the bstd hasn't dropped.
I admit that I don't try to farm it all that often now, mostly because it pisses me off so bad when I do !

I guess I am pretty lucky - got 2 drops today for about 1 hour of farm on Golemagg EU, managed to tag almost every spellbinder that spawned for that time (but hey- the 2 warlocks camping the spot got the avengers tags ^_^ ).

These sell for 760 gold atm, so finally I will have enough to buy a mount !

You can expect it to drop after 400 kills.
if the formula goes for 400 gold thats 1g per kill, which is pretty good. but beware that u have to wait for respawns!

math:
chance to get it: 0,4% so 0,004
0,996 ^ (kills) = chance of not getting it

0,996 ^ 100 = 0,667. 66% not getting it => 33% of getting it
0,996 ^ 400 = 0,09. 9% not getting it => 91% of getting it
0,996 ^ 1000= 0,018. 1,8% not getting it => 98% of getting it

Here's the math:

The probability of dropping an item is 0.43%, or 0.0043.
The probability of not dropping an item is 1 - 0.0043 = 0.9957.
To have a 0.43% chance of dropping an item at least once, we need to calculate 1 - (the probability of not dropping an item every time).
1 - 0.9957 = 0.0043 = 0.43%

So, the player has to kill at least 10,000 enemies to drop an item.

The only source of Righteous Orbs outside of Stratholme is the singular Crimson Courier that patrols from Stratholme to Tyr's Hand, with about a 1.5% drop chance. She is escorted by four Crimson Bodyguards who do not seem to have any loot. This makes Crusader extremely difficult to get in Season of Discovery Phase 3 at level 50.
