I am not sure what is item is designed for. The low dps removes melee classes. Elemental Shaman don't have mana issues with the new clearcasting and having a shield is nice.

I guess a Balance Druid would get decent use out of it, since they don't have many regen options as a Shaman has.

This weapon really does make no sense.

Balance Druids actually have several more compelling options with way more spell damage on them, one and two-handed alike. Elemental Shamans would want a shield and dagger/mace. Retribution Paladins would not be caught dead with one of these because of the extremely low DPS. Holy Paladins would not even want it because they deal more damage with a high DPS, slow 2H, or a low DPS, high spell damage 1H and shield.

The only thing that makes any sense is the fact the item this pattern can create has been in the database for some time now without any means to craft it. Since we don't have any confirmed drop location yet for this, it's possible this pattern itself is not yet ready for prime time either, or even if it was, was placed in haste to add a pattern drop to Zul'Aman. Hopefully, Blizzard will retool the item in some way.

Only thing I can think of this being used for is dpsing with protection spec paladin, or maybe a really really hybrid paladin grinding weapon...

this is actually pretty nice for a shockadin. it basically turns a blue 1h and shield combo into a 2 hander

shield = ~25 spell damage
shield = ~15 stam
shield = ~15 int
sword = ~125 spell damage
sword = ~40 DPS (white)
sword = ~20 stam
sword = ~20 int

total = ~150 spelldamage
total = ~40 DPS
total = ~35 stam
total = ~35 int

this = 168 spell damage
this = 66.6 white DPS
this = 55 stam
this = 37 int

so you get roughly the same amount of stats

and the armor in the shield is changed into white damage

if you have the money to spare, go ahead, if not, you still have your sword and shield :P

I definitely like this item. As it begins discussions like this because of its unorthodox stats.

Please continue discussing the ways this could be put to good use. I personally instantly identified it as a protection paladin single target grinding tool, as reckoning would make full use of the fast speed on this weapon and could probably pump out some very respectable damage if you actually dropped the mats to make it.

Most people aren't taking into account the speed on this.
For a Holy Paladin grinding (yes, even we have to grind at times ^_^), this mace is a godsend. At 2,1s speed with high spelldamage, it offers perfect synergy with the high spelldamage one can obtain from gear in 2.3 as Holy, and should work perfectly.

This weapon's lack of specialization makes it unlikely to see much use. It compromises on too many stats when you could use simple macros to change your weapons mid-combat to meet the situation rather than to blindly equip this.

Possible specs that would actually use this:
Retribution paladin using SoR
Balance druid PvP

I have to wonder if these stats resemble the itemization budget a Death Knight might use in the future.

This is really good for prot paladin 2h tanking...
When I'm going oom in an encounter I outgear I usually throw on a two hander (without the sword and board, I'm still uncrittable at exactly 490 def) so that I can retain a enough mana to generate agro... thing is my two hander doesn't have any spell damage on it... so this solves everything.

This plan was added to the game in 2.1 but it was "activated" first in 2.3. The plan is a world drop and you should see it on your local AH soon.

Why do everyone talk about paladins? When I take a look at the dps, stats and speed I starts thinking on a balance druid and this is a really nice 2h for a druid who can't run Karazhan.

Got the plans today from a Black Morass run. Dropped off one of the Portal Keepers. *Note* Not an actual boss.

First time seeing it.

From the odd stats, I can't see much demand for this item. I am a BS and could craft it for another. But I can't imagine there is alot of people who would want to use it. And don't flame me because I don't know how Pally DPS works or whatever. I'm merely stating the obvious when I say... your average Pally isn't going to see the benefit of this over sword / board. Where as a Druid will also try to attain a 1h and OH.

Just dropped off trash in Heroic Slave Pens. The greedy naga had this AND a living ruby in his pockets.

However I can't really see a huge use for this. I spose a Holy Shockadin could use it.. until they got one of the many caster weapons with more than 168dmg.

Dropped from an enraged air elemental for me tonight in SMV near Ancient Shadowmoon Spirit. Very nice surprise, especially since an epic (lvl 50plate shoulders) dropped for the same toon in Azshara last night!!! Frost Mages FTW!!

I used one of the items to lift the curse from a Forest Frog in ZA near the lake at the front. Turned into a Food Vendor. He sold me some nice things like crawdad 30 stam food for 8s each. Also sold a blue Sealed Scroll Case for 80s which was BoP. Opened it up and these were inside!

Mats required:

16 khorium bars = 32 khorium ore
12 felsteel bars = 72 feliron ore (2 ore per bar, 3 bars per felsteel bar) & 48 eternium ore (2 ore per bar, 2 bars per felsteel)
6 primal might = primal water, primal earth, primal air, primal fire and primal mana (all x 6)
2 primal nethers (generally 50-150g each)

I think it's much easier (and cheaper) to get the lower city epic mace and find a good offhand for it.

does anyone yet see that this is a 2 hand mace, not a one hand mace. wondering why they would make an epic mace with 66 DPS, yea the spell dmg is nice, but i guess ill find out when i make one and try it out.
