The Caverns Of Time is protected by the Bronze Dragonflight which cannot let mortals interrupt the timeline so thats why the doors were closed, but a new race of dragon flight named the Infinite Dragonflight has been interrupting the time flow in the caverns. The Bronze Dragonflight is recruiting adventurers to make sure all past events occur the way they should.

As of what I have heard, the instances will be as followed:

Old Hillsbrad - help Thrall escape from Durnholde keep.
Black Morass - protect Medivh as he opens the Dark Portal.
Old Hyjal - Fight Archimonde atop Mount Hyjal.

Don't forget the lvl 65 raid if you are friendly or higher with them.... havent run it yet, just went in today to look around, obviously not the instance since im a 41, but to look around. It looks pretty sweet IMO... but m,aybe the instances do suck.. wont know til I get there.....but do the raid ... LOL

Note that this quest requires level 66. Furthermore, you must complete this quest in order to enter the Caverns of Time instances.

I discovered this by accident:

I accepted the quest but didnt know what to do right away so i followed my guildies who were not on that quest. Then a lil later i read the questlog and found out i had to follow the custodian around.
The whole time i was still getting whispers from her telling the whole story. So i abandonned the quest and accepted it again.
While i was doing that i got killed by an alliance and had to walk back to my corpse.
Once i rezzed i saw the custodian close by the questgiver, she was still whispering me the story even though i abandonned and re-accepted.
5 seconds later it said "quest completed".

So i think its possible to accept quest, hang around the questgiver, wait for the custodian to come back and you're done

Confirmed, AFK at the quest-giver for 9min and you'll get credit when your tour guide finishes the circle.

Our group had difficulty getting the custodian to spawn for the quest. We made many attempts at abandoning and reaccepting the quest and nothing would happen. While writing the GM petition, we were killed by a group of alliance. After ressurecting, we found the quest worked just fine.

So I'd recommend that should you have difficulty getting the quest to work, get yourself killed somehow and it may make it work again for ya.

I completed the First part ie blowing up the huts, then almost completed in helping Thrall to escape, but one of the other members of the party had decided to use fear and we got wipe (4 times this happened)

I too abandoned this and forgot about it.
It is important to know though that if you do this you need to get back up and talk to the dragon again and let him fly you down. Just retakeing it will give you the quest but no custodian will be summoned so there´s nothing to follow around-
Almost had a nervous brakedown before I figured it out.

Greetings, <name>. I will guide you through the cavern. Please try and keep up.

We do not know if the Caverns of Time have always been accessible to mortals. Truly, it is impossible to tell as the Timeless One is in perpetual motion, changing our timeways as he sees fit. What you see now may very well not exist tomorrow. You may wake up and have no memory of this place.

It is strange, I know... Most mortals cannot actually comprehend what they see here, as often, what they see is not anchored within their own perception of reality.

Follow me, please. <The Custodian leads you to the entrance of the Old Hillsbrad timeway.>

There are only two truths to be found here: First, that time is chaotic, always in flux, and completely malleable and second, perception does not dictate reality.

As custodians of time, we watch over and care for Nozdormu's realm. The master is away at the moment, which means that attempts are being made to dramatically alter time. The master never meddles in the affairs of mortals but instead corrects the alterations made to time by others. He is reactionary in this regard.

For normal maintenance of time, the Keepers of Time are sufficient caretakers. We are able to deal with most ordinary disturbances. I speak of little things, such as rogue mages changing something in the past to elevate their status or wealth in the present.

These tunnels that you see are called timeways. They are infinite in number. The ones that currently exist in your reality are what the master has deemed as 'trouble spots.' These trouble spots may differ completely in theme but they always share a cause. That is, their existence is a result of the same temporal disturbance. Remember that should you venture inside one...

This timeway is in great disarray! We have agents inside right now attempting to restore order. What information I have indicates that Thrall's freedom is in jeopardy. A malevolent organization known as the Infinite Dragonflight is trying to prevent his escape. I fear without outside assistance, all will be lost.

We have very little information on this timeway. Sa'at has been dispatched and is currently inside. The data we have gathered from his correspondence is that the Infinite Dragonflight are once again attempting to alter time. Could it be that the opening of the Dark Portal is being targeted for sabotage? Let us hope not...

This timeway is currently collapsing. What that may hold for the past, present and future is currently unknown...

The timeways are currently ranked in order from least catastrophic to most catastrophic. Note that they are all classified as catastrophic, meaning that any single one of these timeways collapsing would mean that your world would end. We only classify them in such a way so that the heroes and adventurers that are sent here know which timeway best suits their abilities.

All we know of this timeway is that it leads to Mount Hyjal. The Infinite Dragonflight have gone to great lengths to prevent our involvement. We know next to nothing, mortal. Soridormi is currently attempting to break through the timeway's defenses but has thus far been unsuccessful. You might be our only hope of breaking through and resolving the conflict.

It might not be a bad idea to do this as soon as you hit 66, so you don't tie up a group when you actually go to do Old Hillsbrad.

This quest CAN bug, so if the guide doesn't whisper you anything for a little while, just abandon it and get it again. Also, make sure the custodian spawns for you before you go afk; it's not impossible to accept the quest but have nothing spawn for you.

The "quest" is an 8 minute walk around in the caverns of time staging area. You don't even have to move if you don't want to.

The Black Morass Attunement Full Questline:

1. To The Master's Lair. Accept the quest on Caverns of Time entrance and speak with the dragon to fly into Caverns of Time.

2. The Caverns of Time. Accept the quest and stay afk around 7-9 minutes in the pink circle until get the quest credit.

3. Old Hillsbrad. Return the quest to Erozion inside Old Hillsbrad Dungeon. /way 27,1, 37,3 Entrance

4. Taretha's Diversion. Go to the First Boss area and use Pack of Incendiary Bombs on 5 Barrels located inside the houses. Return quest for Thrall located inside the Castle.

5. Escape from Durnholde. Make sure take this quest before speak with Thrall. The objective here is follow and help Thrall until reach the final boss.

6. Return to Andormu. Grab this quest after defeat the final boss Epoch Hunter and return to Andormu located outside the dungeon.

I've seen a lot of discussion/concern regarding this quest and it's potential ability to bottleneck dungeon and raid progression for players on PvP servers.

Disclaimer:
I've done a lot of testing on the beta regarding this quest specifically as preperation for the release of TBC and the things I found can hopefully help in regards to providing some facts about this quest.
Note that is was all done in the Beta but that hopefully it will also be true in actual TBC-Classic, the last test was done today - 1st of June, 2021 6 hours before the launch).

Step-By-Step (How To):

If everything goes optimally:

Accept the quest, and mark the guide with a raid-marker if you can
Stay close to the quest-giver but go 10-20 yards towards Hyjal Tunnel
Wait for the guide to complete its tour, but pay attention when it gets near you again.
The entire tour takes somewhere between 7-9 minutes
Get the quest completed when the guide has stopped

Note that when the guide walks away from the Hyjal Tunnel it will stop around 20-30yards away from the quest-giver (that's the "end-point").

If you die during the quest:

Run back towards your corpse as soon as you can
Stay in ghost form, do not ressurect yet
Wait until the guide is close to the "end-point" and then rez and stay alive until it has completed it's tour
Get quest-completion when the guide has stopped

Note that when the guide walks away from the Hyjal Tunnel it will stop around 20-30yards away from the quest-giver (that's the "end-point").

If you fail to complete the quest or your guide disappears:

Make sure your guide is actually gone, check for the raid-marker
Abandon the quest
You can't spawn a new guide if you have the buff (the 15min one from when you accepted the quest).
However, the buff can be removed by dying - jump from the nearby tower a few times if you can't get someone to help
Respawn
Follow the steps above

Special things of note:

This quest cannot be completed as a party, e.g. if one of your party members complete the quest you will not get credit for it.
You need to do it on your own, but this can still be done in a party
This quest cannot fail, in addition you can die during the quest and yet still complete it.
You need to be alive to complete the quest, you can't complete is as a ghost or before you release from a corpse

Other things of note:

You need to stay relativly (around 20-30 yards I think) close to the "end-point" of the guide's tour to be able to complete the quest.
Being too far away will not let you complete it (Tested from inside the Hyjal tunnel and from ontop the center platform of the room).

Well- for anyone who was dumb like me and tried to enter an instance before level 66- you can't. You have to complete the quest and then you are allowed to enter. Thought I could grab it earlier.

Just as further confirmation, yes, you can just accept the quest and AFK there for 9 minutes. The quest will complete itself.
