Thrall is suicidal.

When you accept the quest he runs through 4 groups of 4 mobs each, usually with a Warder who heals, and a mage who polymorphs.
As he exits the town, the boss comes, with a warden and a standard melee guy. The boss cleanses any magic effects including Polymporph and freezing traps off his adds, which makes it annoying.

This quest is rly easy if you ll rest before every group thral engages. Dont worry about him he can tank whole group of mobs for a while. Just take some rest before every group and focus on casters first and you ll made it.The boss outside is also easy, just focus adds one by one and let thrall tank the big bad guy.

This quest is bugged as at 04/02/07. You can rescue Thrall and return him to Tauren Mill, he goes around kills three mobs, gets to Tabatha and then whamo.. he does nothing.

You say.. GO THRALL!

He just sits. Have logged the problem with Blizz. They say it is a bug. They say they are working on fixing it.

I guess you only have 3 attempts to free Thrall. After the 3rd he doesnt reset and you have to reset the instance.

Make sure you TAKE the quest before someone starts it.

No, not the regular way as with e.g. Jailbreak, but you have to ACCEPT this quest first, and after everyone's done that, someone has to speak with him and start the event.

We did it the "old" way and well, I'm doing my second run now :S

Thrall bugged for us today, while he was in the Barn. We killed all the mobs, he ran back into the Barn and just stood there, did nothing, nobody could even talk to him.

Our group was having a bad night last night. Our druid healer kept getting smacked by the the final wave of dragonkin on the final event. We did so poorly we wiped 2x.

The Epoch Hunter was still there. Thinking we'd kill him for the loot alone--Thrall was good and dead by this time, no ability to try again--we went at him.

Apparently, the Hunter cannot be killed unless Thrall is around to deliver a blow. We got him to 1% then he just wouldn't die. Given the night we had we laughed it off.

When I was doing this quest we wiped twice before getting to Tarren Mill. In the middle of the Epoch Hunter fight, we wiped a third time because of the priest getting smacked. After we ressed we found Taretha dead upstairs in the inn, while Epoch Hunter still flew over Tarren Mill and couldn't be attacked at all. Thrall also was nowhere to be found. So, we thought to go back to Durnholde and try to start the event all over, but we found out everything had respawned already.

I guess when you fail on the Epoch Hunter event, you'll have to do the escort all over again, because of Thrall despawning and Taretha being dead.

sorry unless you are a very well geared rogue it could be hard since sap wont work here.

if everyone in your party has already burned the houses you STILL NEED to burn them otherwise Thrall will give you the quest but not let you escort

Starting the quest
burn the houses, pretty simple its a four pack just kill them watch out for pats. once you have bombed all 5 houses a boss will will spawn near the stairs to go back up. easy fight tank it and spank it. hes got a whirlwind that does quite a bit of damage so back up when he starts that only have tank attack.

after that there is a four pack a pat (that usually comes with the four pack) then a final four pack once u have cleared all of that you can go DOWN (dont go up the stairs) into the cellar. have every1 accept the quest (dont worry he wont start going until you say something like 'lets go, we're ready'

buff up
make sure every1 will not have to leave for the next 1-2.5 hours this is a very intense quest and you cannot have breaks except inbetween parts.
make sure every1 has the BEST water/food even if you dont have a mage get the 7.5k mana/health stuff everyone should have at least 10 of each (unless warrior then 20 food) hand out healthstones if you have a lock as well as a soulstone make sure every1 has some pots also.

During the fights:

* if person with soulstone dies USE IT RIGHT AWAY
* if thrall dies you have to start the whole escort over again so make sure he is ALWAYS above 70% health
* eat/drink RIGHT AFTER each mob he RUNS to the next so you must keep full mana/health even if u have 90% of each DRINK AND EAT!!

Special abilities:

* Wardens-NEED to be killed/sheeped first they will heal about 50+% of any1's health while they are up have a rogue/something that can make sure they dont finish that heal if they heal that can be the difference between clearing and wiping
* Mages- they will sheep you, hit pretty hard
* Veterans-hit pretty hard, not as much need to take down first
* range guys- (im not sure their name but it will have range i think in the name) hit 900-1.5k with their gun be carefull

Part one:
this is walking him out of the castle and just out of durndholde.
there is a 4 pack right outside the building
after that he will run to another 4 pack down the hill
after that another four pack right before the bridge
and finally a four pack on the other side of the bridge.

once u have killed all four you meet your second boss. once again not sure his name i did this a few days ago. but he comes with 1 healer and 1-2 other guys..
this guy also heals himself/his buddies
so put the tank on him keep heals on tank and kill adds
i as a warlock just feared the healer around and doted him till he was dead while the other 2 were killed by my group.
once they are dead make sure u have a rogue/mage/priest or some1 stopping his heals. pretty easy fight.

after you kill him you get a little break take this time to rebuff pass out more food/water/pots/healthstones/soulstones whatever you need
once you are ready time for part 2...

Part 2
once you are ready talk to him and he will get on the mount of the boss u just killed and you'll be off this part is quite easy just 2 mobs while ur on the road riding to tarren mill. if u can try and pull the first mob off the road a little and you will skip the second mob. these mobs are yellow twords us but Thrall will attack them.. after a little bit of riding you will stop at tarren mill to get to part 3...

part 3
pretty much like part 1 a few mobs. just be always drinking/eating in between mobs you will only have to kill 3 mobs, one in the stable one in the church and one in the house. after the house Thrall finds this girl and you have to save her by killing the final boss.. buff up and get ready for the final boss. no need for water but make sure EVERY1 one has bandages/pots

part 4
The final boss. once again dont know his name damn that would be helpfull i'm going to finish this quest again so i'll edit it with bosses names.

okay this guy has 3 or 4 waves of mobs you must kill.. cannot be sheeped but can be feared. these mobs put a weird Debuff on you it gives u +50% you get healed but also +50% damage u take. its a curse so mages should be looking to decurse it. if you dont have a mage just avoid damage while you have it its about a 1 min buff. while you have it and your not being attacked bandage they will heal you +50% which is nice. after these mobs he will come. make sure to conserve your mana/health during these mobs cuz the boss comes DIRECTLY after.

has a debuff he puts on people as far as i know it just decreases your speed by like 90% or something he hits pretty hard so be careful

now i havnt got past this boss we died on him :( but i am pretty sure thats the last part because you save his girl friend haha.

For this part:

If he dies during the final boss fight with Epoch Hunter he respawned still in Tarren Mill at Taretha for me last night.

Thrall did not respawn when we wiped on the Epoch.

From what I've heard, the pattern is: Thrall will only respawn from 3 deaths. If you wipe again after the third, he won't come back. Not sure that this is true, but my party definitely wiped 3 times, and Thrall did not respawn after the 3rd.

Played this today Me as a Hunter, Druid, Mage, Paladin and Shaman. It went very fast died once and failed in the last event with the dragon boss. In the second try, the others died beside me and thrall, so i activated Cheetah and kited the boss and run in circels untill the other come back and resst. When all was done , i went back to thrall so he took aggro once and did feign died, the boss was on 33k when i kited him.

Anyway for all other who didnt make it, its not so hard as above comments,

This quest is bugged, and a known issue (says the GM). Thrall gets stuck in parts of Taren Mill right before the boss, and you can't continue.

By the way, the dragonkin casters in the waves of mobs before the Epoch fight can be sleeped by a druid, which is handy.

Make sure that if you die after downing Epoch, you do NOT release your spirit until Thrall finishes his QQ rant. The quest won't complete, and you will be forced to start again. I had the unfortunate honor of finding that out.

Make sure *EVERYONE* has accepted the quest before you start the escort. It will not prompt others to accept when the escort starts.

"Jailbreak!" will prompt you (as will Ring of Blood), but not this quest. I'll be running Durnholde for my second time soon!

Well I waited after getting to Thrall thinking that by accepting the quest would trigger Thralls escape....so I left it and left it until some smart ass in the group spoke to him and initiated the quest so I was shit out of luck....apparently you can share the quest, I didn't know at the time so will no doubt have to do it again, grrrr!

I just hope I can pick up the quest where I left off.

If you are looking to get out of the instance, for whatever reason, you need to go where the Yeti caves are. It is directly north from southshore and west of tarren mills.

This is a VERY hard instance. Get well equipped, and at least 2 70's. It's all I can say

me(lvl 69 hunter) and my group(lvl 70 druid(dps), lvl 67 rogue, lvl 70 warrior and a lvl 70 priest) did this quest too and it was too easy.. thrall never came below 70% and in our group nobody came below 50%.. the healer could even dps with us to kill the mobs

and the quest where you need to escort thrall is shareble, i didn't take the quest and some1 in my group shared it with me.

Completed this quest last night with:

70 Prot Warrior

70 Holy Priest
70 Rogue (not sure of spec)
69 Shammy (again, not sure)

It was pretty much a cakewalk. Make sure you let Thrall start each group of mobs, then just have your tank peel aggro. Hopefully, your healer doesn't get targeted by the caster with the nasty shadowbolt.

So I got the last boss dead. Two of my group died before he was killed. The first two guys completed and the Blood Elf ported them out. I tried and nothing. I'm not on my mount, I didn't die. He just tells me that a good thing was done here today and thats it. My log says I completed it. So I have to do this again?

I've just done this instance on my five level 67 shamans right now. A couple of observations:

1. I wiped just after I killed Captain Skarloc, but his two guards were still alive. They then beat Thrall down to 1% health, but couldn't kill him. After I released and ran back in, I got a reputation tick a few seconds after I entered the instance, as if I had just killed something. By the time I had run back to where I left Thrall, he was just finishing off the second of the two guards. It looks like Thrall became unkillable after I downed the boss and wiped.

2. I wiped several times on the final encounter. Each time Thrall reappeared inside the Tarren Mill inn and I just had to talk to Taretha again to restart the encounter.

The problem why some people don't get the ecort dialogue is because they are OUT OF RANGE! Get close to Thrall when the quest is being accepted and if you're at the same stage (did the prereq of burning down the buildings) it'll work everytime. IF you are close enough to Thrall.

completed the quest but the person u have to turn it in to is the npc Erozion not Thrall. Bugged on me too. I spoke to Thrall as he had the '?' above him and after that i could no longer get the next part of the quest into Black Morass. Even worst, i could no longer enter Old Hillsbrad any longer. Msged a GM but he said there's nothing they could do at the moment so ppl on this quest now, make sure u turn it in to EROZION!

I have another question, is there a set number of times you are able to attempt the Epoch Hunter? We tried 3 times, couldnt keep Thrall alive long enough, and the first two times when thrall died the dragon vanished and the Keeper of Time NPC came and said he would "reset the time flow once more, but if Thrall does not survive..."

After our 3rd attempt the dragon stayed there but Thrall didnt spawn, and Teretha was laying down as if dead, but with full HP.

Is it 3 strikes and your out? Or is this another incarnation of the bug?

GM stated the development team KNOWS about this bug and it will be fixed in a later patch.

He can bug in the barn too, and kiting mobs to kill him even then can just make him dissapear completely.

GM's themselves can do nothing ; no resets, nought.

Tried this last night, we made it thru the barn and the church just fine, but got wiped outside in the 'town square'. After the wipe we went back to start again, and no Thrall to be found anywhere. We all abandoned the quest and he would still not appear in his cell....I wish I had read this last night and checked where Thrall gets off his horse as Pennysiln posted...

On a wipe, does he come back to his cell as some on my server were telling us, or would we continue at the last 'checkpoint' rather than starting the whole escort over again, or worse reset the whole instance?

Well had to same problem first time i did this, he got bugged up inside the church.

We decided to pull some mobs and let thrall die, this actually worked and he respawned just outside Tarren Mill.

Sure is set us back a while, but better then reseting the instance. We went on to complete the quest this time around.

This quest is extremely buggy. I have done it around 12 times now. Still haven't completed. he bugs in the church. GM's can do nothing other than state the obvious. I have ran this quest from the begining 4 times bugged. I have gotten him killed 8 times still bugged each time in the church. Do this quest at your own risk.

To keep Thrall from locking up in either the barn or the church, Thrall has to be the first one to get agro. It seems that if he doesn't the encounter doesn't count as his. Let Thrall run into each building on his own, while your group stands back. As soon as he is hit, go help him.

If Thrall does get locked up in either place, do as was described above. Have someone drag a patrol to him, and let Thrall die. He will reappear between the barn and the river. Someone just needs to talk to him again. You will start over from the point where he gets off his horse.

terI have helped Thrall escape twice now but still cant enter the black moras. When thrall was in front of us, someone else clicked on the quest to help him escape. Does this mean I have to do it again but make sure that it is me who accepts the quest?

Bugged on me today. Got Thrall all the way to the church, beat that wave, then he wouldn't move anymore, no one could talk to him, and the two Dalaran guys spawned out front. >_<

There's nothing more fun that spending 3 hours doing an instance then having it bug on you and then wiping 3 times before you figure out what to do and then having to do it again. When you get to the dragons you're supposed to kill the casters first. Wish we'd known that.

A 70 friend of mine has done this 7 times and it has bugged every time. Its even making me mad and Im not even on the quest.

Did Yesterday . We were 5 . All with the quests .
We changed 1 ppl for another BEFORE the Burning of houses (1st quest)
We killed FIRST BOSS .
We get up to Fortress, cleared the floor , go down stairs and finished Quest talking to Thrall. The QUEST WAS COMPLETED. No problem here.

We waited ALL that all of us closed the FIRST QUEST .
Then ONE of us took the escort...THRALL IMMEDIATELY GO OUT THE CELL and the others don't have the permission to take quest.
We cleared 2ND BOSS, Then to Epoc Hunter... ALL FINE.
Erozion appeared and only who took the quest from Thrall (ONE) could finish it .

About to be near Thrall to get the quest ... the cell is very strict so you are already very near! We didn't try the Quest SHARING tought! NOOBS! but we immedaitely run to follow Thrall.

We were 5 lvl 70 with Druid/Bear MT ; Warrior (me )OT for Wardens ; Hunter; Holy Pala; Priest/MH;

We aggroed like hell ! but all was fine ! Health always very high .
It's simple with all 70 . For sure.

When Thrall fights is very nice .. he's really tough !

They claimed to have fixed the problem with Thrall locking up at the church, or church related issues last night. However, I am still unable to complete the quest. I can start it at Thrall, and other people will still receive a completion once the run is done and the main boss is down, but the quest disappears from my log some time after starting it when Thrall is in the cell.

I put a GM ticket in to no adequate response.

Just thought I'd let other people know about a specific bug that hasn't been mentioned just yet, and certainly hasn't been fixed.

Is this quest bugged for anyone else? We find the girl in the inn but she disapears and Thrall just stands there.

Had to reset the instance and do it again. It work this time. The last fight is really hard but if you take 2 warlocks to AOE fear you should be fine.

This was annoying. Died just as we were killing the dragon, got no credit for quest completion. VERY annoying! Now I have to run the whole thing over again to get credit for this. WTF.

Okay. I've gone through this dungeon more times than I want to mention, and I have stil yet to be offered the quest. Every time I tell a group that *I* will start the quest, someone else starts it, and I don't get the box that asks me to start.

and to top it off, the cloak of impulsiveness finally dropped for me, and a rogue who was on her first run through won it. I'm so sick of this.

at this time its still bugged. we did the whole thing. i even started the quest. we beat the dragon at the end. everyone else got ported. erozion said good job blah blah blah and nothing else. this wouldnt be so bad except you need it to get into kara.

The problem seems to lie in Thrall's pathing...he cannot go outside the Chapel when fighting the mobs that spawn during that part of the encounter. This quest bugged on us the first 2 times we tried, I read the forums here & we kited the mobs & had Thrall slain to restart it. 3rd try, using my hunter, I multi-shot the mobs when the spawns in doorway of Chapel & LOS sidestepped & the came further into the room. Killed them all, & Thrall moved afterwards.

Everybody in my group turned the quest in before we started escort quest. It didn't ask me if I wanted to start the escort quest. When we got done, everyone in my group completed the quest and taked to Eroz but ME!

So lame. I even read all the forums before I started and new what to do. I told everyone not to start escort until everyone turned the first quest in. But it still bugged me.

I'll edit this when I hear back from a GM....or IF I hear back from one.

Yeah, they told me to disable my mods. He didn't even mention that this is a buggy quest, he just blamed it on Cosmos. LOL

The Black Morass Attunement Full Questline:

1. To The Master's Lair. Accept the quest on Caverns of Time entrance and speak with the dragon to fly into Caverns of Time.

2. The Caverns of Time. Accept the quest and stay afk around 7-9 minutes in the pink circle until get the quest credit.

3. Old Hillsbrad. Return the quest to Erozion inside Old Hillsbrad Dungeon. /way 27,1, 37,3 Entrance

4. Taretha's Diversion. Go to the First Boss area and use Pack of Incendiary Bombs on 5 Barrels located inside the houses. Return quest for Thrall located inside the Castle.

5. Escape from Durnholde. Make sure take this quest before speak with Thrall. The objective here is follow and help Thrall until reach the final boss.

6. Return to Andormu. Grab this quest after defeat the final boss Epoch Hunter and return to Andormu located outside the dungeon.

FOR THE LOVE OF ELUNE AND ALL THAT IS HOLY!
Don't use the dialog to tell Thrall you are ready until:
Everyone has turned in the previous quest Taretha's Diversion (The yellow ?)
Everyone has accepted the new quest from Thrall - Escape from Durnholde (The yellow !) Accepting this quest does NOT start the event, it's safe to pick up.

Then before dialoging "I am ready" make sure everyone has accepted the quest from Thrall.

THEN DIALOG that I AM READY.

Ran with 4 from another guild, someone dialoged I am ready before I could accept the quest from Thrall.
They felt bad so ran again for me.
Then second time thru someone dialoged before I could take the quest from Thrall.

Like jailbreak. Pay attention. This is harder to get right because at least on jailbreak you can accept the follow on quest as long as you have turned in the previous quest - on Escape from Durnholde, there is NO PROMPTING to accept the quest and once someone dialogs "I am ready", Thrall will not give you the quest. No sure if it's sharable after that because everyone in the group had completed the quest. Plus at the end, you can't teleport out via Erozion so you have to do the long ride of shame if you plan on resetting the dungeon.

Feels like this hasn't been commented on since 2008, just thought it worth knowing in advance for classic....

If you wipe inside the keep (prior to or while fighting Captain Skarloc), Thrall will respawn in the basement of the keep.

If you wipe after defeating Skarloc (and proceeding to Tarren Mill) but before reaching the Epoch Hunter fight, Thrall will respawn next to the barn where you speak with him to start the event in Tarren Mill.

If you wipe after speaking with Taretha to start the fight with the Epoch Hunter, Thrall will respawn in the inn (standing next to Taretha).

I just had a bizarre experience with Thrall in my morning OHB rep run. We had two people on the quest, we released him from jail and fought the mobs at the top of the hill. Okay, great. Then, usually, you go down the hill and there's another pack before you turn right and make your way out of the keep to fight the Captain. Instead of fighting that first pack with my tank, Thrall decided to just ignore them entirely and go to the other group. I'm paying attention healing my tank, but I don't see Thrall in that pack. Um, okay, sure. And then I hear the ominous "Things are looking grim..." and I see Thrall is fighting that second group. What? Being a good healer (trying to save Thrall for the folks on the quest), I start healing him. It's not enough, not at all. Thrall has *a lot* of HP but no mitigation whatsoever and little avoidance--and, also, of course, no threat generation abilities. He dies... and says "A good day... to die." I died by pulling aggro from healing him (my tank was ... not the best), but that line from Thrall almost made it worth it.

But that's not all. He respawned back in the jail cell, so we sprung him again. This time, after fighting the mobs before the captain, Thrall goes off to the right and fights some mobs under a lookout tower above the pit with the arena spectators. I actually caught a glimpse of those mobs earlier in the run and thought "huh, I never saw them before". He ran quite far to get to them, too.

I've never seen Thrall do any of this and neither did anyone else in my group. I unfortunately had to leave before we were able to finish (would've had the time if things didn't go sideways), so I don't know what other bizarre antics Thrall got up to in that run, but it was certainly strange.

When you are ready to proceed, let Thrall know. Follow Thrall out of Durnholde Keep and help him free Taretha and fulfill his destiny.
