You need the Bash'ir Phasing Device! to able to see the mana cells. The Bash'ir Phasing Device drop from any ethereal, it also drops from the elementals.

Once you activate the Phasing Device, you can see other players that are using it as well as Phase Wyrms milling around the mana cells.

This quest becomes available from Exarch Nasuun, once Phase 2 of the Shattered Sun Offensive has begun.

The way this works is that you kill Etherum until the Bash'ir Phasing Device drops. When you use it, you become invisible to the Ethereals in the area and can only see mana cells and wyrms. Generally, it's one wyrm to one cell. Unlike mage invisibility, you can use all your abilities as normal (even mount!) and not aggro the ethereals. The buff has no time limit. but will fade once you leave Bash'ir Landing. The next time you want to do the quest, you will need to kill ethereals until you get another phasing device.

It also appears that if you are invisible and a opposite faction who is not invisible casts some sort of AOE spell or move while you are in its range, you will receive damage.

The Bash'ir Phasing Device also drops from the humanoids as well. A Bash'ir Arcanist dropped it for me.

Bash'ir Landing is around in Blade's Edge Mountains.
Evergrove is the closest flight path there.

Kill mobs until you find the Bash'ir Phasing Device.
Then use the item and you will get phased out (you can compare it to mages invisibility spell but you can use spells).
Then you will be able to find crates (you are able to see one in the screenshot, they are pink/purple) which contains Smuggled Mana Cell.
Watch out so that the Phase Wyrms Don't kill you as you will lose the phase buff.
When you are done with the quest just right click on the buff and turn it in at shatt.

Oddly enough, the Phase Wyrms seem to drop quite a bit of Motes of Mana. You could perhaps farms these little guys a bit better than the mobs in Netherstorm who drain your mana if you don't kill them fast enough.

Upon completion of the Sunwell Portal (a portal from Shattrath City to the Isle of Quel'Danas) during phase 2, this quest is replaced by Maintaining the Sunwell Portal, and has the same objective but is a permanent daily quest that can be completed for reputation and reward, and will always be available once it is unlocked.

At 54, 18, there are five spawns of Mana Cell, there's just enough time for you to go around, collect all five of them and kill the two Phase Wyrms before the first one respawns. Makes the quest way easier.

As a druid, I've found that it is quite easy to do the quest by just cycloning, or casting Entangling Roots on the mana wyrm, if there happens to be one, it gives you just enough time to snag the mana cells, and then you can just use travel form to get away quick.

Blizzard really impressed me with this quest. Its an unique type of quest, with screen effect and invisibility to players and mobs in "normal phase". Kinda reminds me about Lord of the Rings Saruman's ring effect. Even if you dont like dailies, I recommend everyone to do this one at least once :)

Also, this is a very good place to farm motes of mana, drop rate was near 75% to me and they dropped several at a time.

If you have to log out (and I assume if u disco) you lose your phase buff and reappear in the normal dimension.

If the glow effect really bugs you, just type: /console reloadui

or any other way to reload your ui and the colors will return to normal, but you'll still be shifted and able to get the cells.

on a side note the cells respawn far quicker than the phase hunters, Its posible to get all 10 for just a few kills.

go to bashir landing.. pretty much the northern end of blades edge.
kill an ethereal and loot a phase device, i got mine off the first mob, level 71. use the device then you and your party become phased, then it's only the phase hunters. stay within 100 yards of the caster tho

the cells are just boxes on the ground, the phase hunters have a large agro range tho.

so getting two on you while dodging the ninjas can be a problem.

The above post is wrong, the device doesn't drop from Ethereals.

Kill Bash'ir Raiders, Spell-Thiefs, and Arcanist to get the BASH'IR PHASING DEVICE.

By the way when up there on Bashiir Landing kill as many of those phase wyrms as you can - great motes of mana drop rate.

Actually it DOES drop of the Unbound Ethereals. However it also drops off of the others so basically any mob actually IN Bash'ir Landing will drop the item it's just not a going to drop every time.

Pretty much all of the consortium-looking guys up there are 'Ethereals' they may not have it in their names but that is what they are.

Kill one, loot the phaser and look for little pink boxes to pick up.

killed 5 and nothing has dropped. at all. there has to be better ways to make money/SSO rep.

Well, after my first attempt my feeling was no, not really. However, I think once you have done it a couple of times its not that bad. Although killing the Wyrms is good for the drops, I got 2 of them on me and was not happy (71+72).

What takes the time is getting the Phaser. Once you have this, you click on it to "change phase" (weird but cool!) so that all the normal mobs disappear and obviously don't attack you. Unless there are lots of other grinders there, then the cells respawn quite quickly. I think this quest is slightly quicker than "Gaining the Advantage" where the mana residue drops can be dire.

after slaying around 20 ethereals and 0 phasing item drop as a prot paladin, I am never ever doing this #$%^ quest :)
PS. not in a raid, didn't have the item etc. just &*!@ drop %

I have devised a plan to acquire a power source strong enough for the creation of our portal.

The ethereal forces at Bash'ir Landing, atop the northwestern Blade's Edge Mountains, have been smuggling mana cells out of Tempest Keep and transporting them to the Sunwell for Kael'thas.

They have hidden the cells, but there is a way for you to find them; the ethereal carry phase devices that you can use to see the smuggled goods.

Just beware the mana cells' phase wyrm guardians.
