I think a lot of people under-rate this ring. This is one of the best value rings around, particularly for fire mages, when you take into account how easy it is to get.

All you need is honored CC rep and a fairly common drop any boss from RAQ. The scarabs and idols can likely be found on the AH, or picked up on RAQ runs.

Other similar rings like Ritssyn's and Mindtear, although better, can be quite rare.

As to whether or not the Warlock equivalent is better, that's situational.

Consider that Mages can get 6% spell hit for frost and fire spells by spending 3 points in tier 1 frost. We only benefit from stacking hit gear against level 63 mobs. So the slightly higher damage keeps working in the majority of fights, whereas spell hit is capped.

Hell, spend 3 points in Elemental Precision and you can be naked and still have a 99% hit chance against level 62.

After the ZG and RAQ quest rewards become epic in the 1.11 patch, this item will have these stats: 9 sta, +18 dmg/heal, 1% crit with spells.

This is totally awesome ring for a fire nuker. Assuming you have decent gear making around 1300 non-crits with fireballs, it has +18 dmg bonus and its 1% crit equals to around additional +14 dmg (1300 * 1.1 * 0.01) what basically means it almost matches Ring of Spell Power in +dmg and gives nifty 9 stamina as a bonus. Needs only honored rep - clear choice.

A great pvp ring, and also great for boosting damage in PvE. Perfectly paired with Don Rodrigo's in PvP. The warlock's ring has less benefit for them than it is for us:

Crit isn't as valuable to a warlock as it is to a mage (Ruin is a 21 point talent, and their dots and life tap don't benefit from +crit gear. For an SM/Ruin lock, it would be very nice however.

Mages should be used to the fact that warlock sets tend to have more spellpower than mage sets because mages need spirit and int, while warlocks need less int and no spirit. It makes a huge difference in class specific itemization.

And regardless, mages will pwn the damage meters anyway.

Man, how this sucks compared to the Warlock ring >.<
Still a decent ring, but a very minor upgrade from Eye of Orgrimmar/Songstone of Ironforge.
