You have to skin it. It's not a drop. I just got 3 in about 1 minute.

Those are easy to get, I got plenty of them in Swamp of Sorrows. Just did the quest to get the Dream Dust, spent time ~15min and got plenty of those.

the drop rates not wrong, just its not a big enough sample, and u hav to skin for them too

i got 3 green whelp scale after SKINNING 5 or 6 of them,,, the drop rate is good. OBS: they drop from SKINNING

Help plz, have run trough Swamp Of Sorrows a couple of times and havent found single one... Where do I find them?

I wandered all around the swamp of sorrows before realising the whelps are all just south right where you come in off the path. FYI. Also, I found the drop rate was around 15%, which seems to be pretty spot on.

ive skinned like 25+ and havent gotten 1! whats with that?

I skinned about 50 of them and got 2 scales.

It was rediculous.

I'm a 67 mage herb/alch. found a 300 lvl 35 skinner in badlands and owned the whelps. he skinned em all and kept everything but the scales and i paid him. A great system if it's not your profession and you need the scales!

i got 5 in like 5 minutes its a realy good drop i thought anyway my friend skinned as well though and he done the q after me and he skins he said it droped 1 on me all through the quest i got about 20

The Whelps that can be skinned for these scales can be found in the Swamp of Sorrows @ 13, 57.

I myself, haven't found the droprate very solid.

Took me 15 minutes to get my first 5, then only 5 minutes to get my next couple of stacks.

The best advice - don't give up on these guys, the scales will drop!

I dont know why anyone would because its a really new server, but im a 41 NE priest on misha and i neeeeeed 4 of these scales for leatherworking for my shaman >.< plz ill pay a ton

How do you check coordinates for where the whelps are?

I killed about 30-40 and got 10. 1/3 to 1/4 drop rate isn't bad. Plus was doing the Dream Dust quest while I was skinning so it wasn't any lost time at all!

for people who are looking these are skinned not dropped.

Was killing these for almost 2hrs earlier and in that time saw none dropped but did skin 8 of them.

On Silvermoon I had a droprate of 18% - over an hour so I came out with about 30 or so - made lots of armor ^_^

Uhmm, I've killed and skinned about 100 so far and have 2 scales..so either I'm getting the sore end of the stats or the drop rate ain't near 30%

These are needed for Green Whelp Armor in leatherworking. (level 175)

guess the "droprate" increased with the last patch. slayed 10 whelps, skinned 3 scales.

(These are also necessary for enchanting +skinning on your gloves)

It is a pretty low drop rate but it is worth it. Green Whelp armor sells for a good price.

The drop rate is calculated from every kill. So if the mob has been killed 200,000 times and it's been skinned 20% of those times (40,000 times), and the actual skinning scale drop rate is 30% (12,000 scales) you'll end up with a statement at this site where 200,000 kills gives 12,000 scales => 6% drop rate when it should be 30%.

Never trust a skinning drop rate!

I put my demon armor on and start killing everything around that pool, both types of dragons and the jags. After a half an hour passed, I recieved

9X Small Flame Sac
5X brittle dragon bone
5X large Fang
3X wicked Claw
2X long soft Tail
2x Ripped wing Webbing
1X citrine

and I skinned

27X meduim Leather
25X Heavy Leather
6X Green Whelp Scale
1X thick Leather
1X heavy Hide

also noticed A ~blind weed~ and A ~liferoot~ around that pool. Also Found A ~Solid chest~ in the cave next to the Blood Elf.

I have been farming these to improve my leatherworking. They are a fairly rare drop, but other people farm the whelps for a speck of dust for a quest, so if you are lucky, you can skin all the whelps that they have killed for the scales too.
The best result I got from farming these was about 20 scales in a couple of hours. With all the leather that is collected I could easily make my green whelp armor and bracers which sold instantly at the AH for a nice sum.

This armor is incredible for players in the level 39 and 49 bracket.. Its really useful for any flag carrier, 10 seconds is a really long time in WSG.

I'm not a fan of how items that still drop in retail from classic, automatically get put on the classic page. Anyway, these scales can also be skinned from Noxious Whelps in Feralas on retail. I just confirmed a few minutes ago.
