Here's a useful tip if you're stuck on one type of dragon - keep your enemy alive, and keep using the Phase Modulator until it finally turns into the type of dragon you need.

here's another trick i found helpful.

when you click on the egg, a nether whelp will spawn -- knock the whelp down to 1/2 or less health before using the modulator on him, makes the final dragon much easier to kill (they inherit the amount of health). This works well until you need to get a specific type, then sometimes the cooldown on the modulator doesn't have time to run out. I ended up standing there letting the dragon hit me until i could hit the modulator again.

Ok this quest is pretty hard for me. These thingys are strong & got much frost resistance.

I simply was not able to complete this quest due to the incredible amount of frost resistance the dragonkin had, MobInfo informed me they had 40% frost resistance, therefore 40% of all my attacks were wasting my mana. I was unable to complete this quest due to the amount of time it would have taken me to use non spec'd spells to kill them. Hope they nerf them some time, 20% would be acceptable but nearly half is too much.

As of April 12, 2007, players attempting this quest DO NOT lose Netherwing rep if they have completed the Shadowmoon Valley quest line that ultimately results in reaching neutral reputation level with the Netherwing.

I was hesitant to try this quest out of fear I would lose rep with no way to get it back. Happily, I suffered no rep loss.

These guys also have pretty good Fire Resistance, I think they are just one of those mobs that everybody hates!

This quest is a real pain for casters. I've done this quest with both a frost mage and a shadow priest. The resists on these things are through the roof, so be prepared to be sitting on your rear, drinking a lot, after wasting plenty of mana just to down one mob.

Then, of course, there's the problem with having to use the quest item over and over just to get the mob you want. In my case, it was a real problem getting the proto-nether drakes to spawn. You're burning through health and mana just to wait to see if the spawn you want will show up (gg with the quest item cooldown).

Here's a tip for hunters.

Set a Freezing Trap under the eggs before you open them - you can then use the Temporal Phase Modifier on the frozen creature before it thaws out and starts attacking.

If you dont get the dragon you need, u can use the Temporal Phase Modulator again on the dragon to switch to another.

The type of drake you get when you transform it is random everytime.

If you need a specific type to come up and the wrong one shows up, you can simply start damaging it but keep it alive until your modulator's cooldown is done and transform it again.

If you're a shadow priest (or any kind of priest really) just pop out of shadowform and smite them down. They have no resistance to smite, and smite is actually quite strong against them.

Don't diss lolsmite priests.

Druids, here's a helpful tip!

After you summon a drake out of an egg, you can hibernate it and continue morphing it until you get the desired form.

any mages try using poly on the thing that spawns and then using the quest item to get the type you need? Might be worth a shot, I will post back here with the results tonight :)

Update: tried to poly the drake that spawns but since they are dragonkin, no joy. For a mage just dps them to half health pop mana sheild or ice barrier depending on spec, and use the phase modulator and hope for the best. I also noticed that when I was doing the quest, after I got all of my proto-netherdrake essence, the only thing that the nether whelp transmuted into was either a adolescent or mature whelp, and after I had all my adolescent, only needed one more mature and it transformed first time for me. Don't know if it was just luck or not, but same thing happened for my wife on the quest, so might be worth mentioning.

Frost mages, go to bed, this is no quest for you and me. As a frost mage this was annoying. Not only did they resist almost every time I hit em, in addition theres a bunch of annoying mobs around that attacks you if you breathe. Another stupid quest from Blizzard, well done.

while doing the quest i used the item and... released a dragon called nihil the banished

well i just let him go again... btw he is lvl ?? and he won't attack you this is what he says:

"Muahahahaha! You fool! You've released me from my banishment in the interstices between space and time!"
"All of Draenor shall quick beneath my feet! I will destroy this world and reshape it in my image!"
"Where shall I begin? I cannot bother myself with a worm such as yourself. There is a world to be conquered!"
"No doubt the fools that banished me are long dead. I shall take wing survey my demesne. Pray to whatever gods you hold dear that we do not meet again." and then he flies off.

Hunters, remember your freezing trap. I laid a trap down, then opened the egg, and the little boogers stayed frozen until I changed them into what I needed. I figured this out about halfway through and did not need nearly as many bandages on the second half :o)

Use "Temporal Phase Modulator" on Nether Drake eggs, it'll transform it into different type of Nether Drake.

Highly recommend using the modulator early into the fight as it has a significant recycle time and if you summon the wrong creature and kill it before the modulator recycles you will have just wasted an egg (escecially once you get into quest). Be aware that subsequent modulator uses do not "cycle" the three creature selections in any order - they are purely random summons...

All i can say is that if your a caster, get a melee to help with this quest because if u aggro a dragon and u have no way to heal yourself...your &*!@ed cuz the resistance rating on the dragons is extreme and if u do hit them with a spell its halved in damage

I have pretty good +hit and +penetration and they were resisting tons of my frost spells. Arcane did only 70% damage. Stick with fire isntead.

Break the eggs around. "Spiked Eggs" ... 60 75 ... then use the modulator on the nether drake... Everytime you use it 3 different mobs appear. Easy quest just comsumes your health a lot

The easiest way to do this quest, is to open the egg and dps the spawn down to below 20% before using the temporal phase modulator. When you transform the spawn into the drake you need, it will have that % of health left and you can finish it off with ease.

There's a big ? dragon boss who is a rare-spawn (I guess you could say spawn, but you use the thing to change it from a drake and he spawns) but he doesnt attack. He sits there and yells for awhile, and if you use the thing on him again to turn him back into a whelp he yells "Noooooo"...thats about it, nothing special...kind of random blizzard did that...if anyone has any idea why this exists plz tell me

Found this easy once I figured out how it works. Use the modulator once and you'll get Proto-Nether Drake Essence when you kill it. Use the modulator once, let it cool down and use it a second time and you'll get Adolescent Nether Drake Essence when it dies. Use it, let it cool down, use it again, let it cool down and use it a third time and you'll get Mature Nether Drake Essence when it dies.
If you want to get the mature one then don't do too much damage on it. You want it to stay alive long enough for you to use the modulator 3 times on it.
Also good to do this quest at the same time as the crystal clear quest since that involves killing crystal flayers and they tend to hang around the eggs.

Warriors--open the egg and hit him with a sunder or two, then let your rage build. At about 40% click the modulator (you'll keep hitting him, so don't wait too long or you'll kill it). If you time it right, you'll be able to hit whatever appears with a full Execute, killing it instantly.

u can give some freakin cors for the ppl who dont know what to do...anyways,60,75, u will see eggs with spikes on them,just open them,and a small whelp will come out,take its health to 80%, then use the quest item on it to change it to the mob which gives u the item.

I'm a level 66 arcane/fire specced maged and i had no problems to kill them whatsoever, i was down to 1500 hp at the lowest, i used the rod on them asap, then
frostnova and nuked it, easy!

This quest is easy for druids...
Get the hatched whelp down to 5 % health,then sleep it...transform untill u get the right one,then finish off :D

These guys are highly resistant to shadow. I recommend warlocks using your fire spells and priests to use your holy. (i am a shadow priest and i shifted out of shadow and my holy spells are hitting for about 2x more then shadow)

interact with Nether Drake Egg
use Temporal Phase Modulator on the mob that will appear

The item for this quest, Temporal Phase Modulator, is kind of a Pink color.
You might have another quest tool, the Protovoltaic thing, for Pickup Up Some Power Cores.
As you might expect, trying to use the wrong tool on the eggs gets you nothing but frustration.

I'm researching the applications of drake essences to my work as a physician. I think they could be a panacea for a host of maladies!

I need someone to go south to the Singing Ridge and get me some.

Willing to take my temporal phase modulator and use it on the nether whelps that hatch from the nether drake eggs? Retrieve the essences from whatever they turn into.

Which, I might add, I'm not certain of what that will be as we're using some pretty dicey, time and space modifying tech here.
