Go to the shipwreck he describes and apply the fish paste. Swim around the shipwreck until a level 37 Lurking Shark appears and attacks you. The shark appeared for me at 55, 63, over the southern end of the wreck. Be careful when swimming away because I swam over the place again, and the shark respawned on me. Kill the shark and quest done.

The shark's not a normal spawn - he'll only appear when someone with the fish paste on is around. Watch out for adds, though the paste doesn't seem to do anything to increase aggro on the crab guys. Don't die, otherwise you'll have to wait the cooldown on the paste before attempting to summon the shark again.

There's two ships in the area...there's Nat's ship then there's an alliance ship with a torn banner. The ship you have to go to is directly behind his island. Him saying it's 'sw' of him was misleading to me and ergo I ended up at the alliance ship.
The alliance ship is farther away and is surrounded by crabs that are visible surrounding the ship on land and water. Nat's ship they're only underwater. So if you see a small ship with a torn alliance banner, you've gone too far :)

Shark was disappointing..I was expecting a bigger one :P Aw well, 39 human warrior he was a breeze to kill, and I had pulled a crab too.

Well, technically, a giant lobster...yummm lobster.

Ok, i had to apply the paste 6 time to get the stupid shark to spawn. Two-shot this guy with my 41 Draenei Shaman. Double Windfury procs ftw.

All you need to do is to right click on the item you recieves and then u go to the ship south west and kill the shark.

Having killed the shark, who came just as I killed a muckshell. I bandaged before looting and got attacked by a second shark, suggest you don't hang around as you get no xp for killing the sharks. Lvl 57 mage

I was helping my step daughter cause when ever she did this quest the shark never came so i helped her with my level 34 hunter a we were attacked by the shark 5 TIMES !!!!!!!!! so you might want to bring a hunter that can do it if you are have prombles. PS the ship is behind nat's landing.

To clarify (I hope), the spawn point is at the southern end of the ship, and you'll enter combat several seconds before the shark actually appears, so it won't be a complete surprise.

Be sure to get out of there as soon as you can when done, the shark keeps spawning after the first one is killed, in about a minute or less.

It took me 4 min to find the ship, so i had one minute left. When i found the ship, shark came right after i arrived.

On my hunter 36 lvl I just applied the paste, started swimming SW of Nat's Landing. You can see the ship from the landing, but the shark will show up before you get there. Didn't really have any adds, but there are muckshell lobster dudes are all around the place. Even with my pet out they didnt aggro, might have just gotten lucky.

Just solo'd as my 34 warlock, quite a good level to do. I was getting nice amounts of XP from the 36's, but they weren't high enough to resist my spells. Put "Unending Breath" on, which is something I'd recommend, as it just made it something less to focus on. (I guess a water breathing potion for those who don't have a warlock friend?) Anyway, swam to the boat and cleared out the mobs, just DoT and let VW tank. Put paste on and swam roughly in a circle around the boat. Shark spawned at front end, closest to Nat's Landing. He's a level 37, so he was the light pinky/orangey colour, but I was okay. Swam straight back to Nats, and nothing else aggro'd, so I don't think the paste affects the range of anything else. Levelled up once I got the quest XP.

He spawns on the north side of the boat at 55,63 just clear out all the muckshell on that side so you don't aggro them when killing the shark. As a mage it was hard to solo but you can do it and as a warlock at level 34, It was a piece of cake.

Ive tried 4 times twice swimming to the wreck wit hthe paste on and twice swimming around ship with no sharks, what am i doing wrong, and if this guy is wanting me to test it cant i just say it doesnt work worth a ^&*!?

very important note for hunters... make sure that the shark bites you, not your pet, when i killed it, i had my pet get to it before it could get to me and i didn't get credit for the quest... make sure it hits you first, then you can feign death or whatever... also, make sure that nobody else is around when the shark shows up, i had to do swim around waiting 3 times because somebody else was doing the quest and the shark kept on hitting them first, it was a druid so the druids thorns injured the shark first and i didn't get credit

You have to swim over to the sunken ship and kill one of the lurking sharks. watch out for the crab people though...

Sometimes it takes a minute for the shark to show up. Swim to boat at 56,62. Had to kill Muckshell that aggroed on the way. Finished him, applied fish paste then swam around just outside of boat. Shark attacks out of nowhere. He is level 37, not elite and has no special attacks. I killed him as a level 30 holy pally but it took almost 15 minutes of chipping away at him and healing. Long and slow but do-able as long as you don't get any adds during the fight. The shark only spawns if someone near is wearing the bait and you must kill him to get the "fish paste tested" quest completion message.

The shark might take a while to show up. I had to put paste on me two times (10 minutes). Just be patient and make sure you are swimming around the sunken ship at 56.63. Eventually, he will come in and attack you.

Kill it and turn it back at Nat Pagle at 58.60.

I wasted 15 minutes trying to spawn the guy by slapping the paste on after I swam to the ship.
The quest text tells you to slap the paste (beside Nat Pagle) THEN swim to the ship - that worked for me. Before I reached the ship the shark attacked me.
Hope it wasn't just luck.

Spent half hour with fish paste on got nothing. Reread the quest and the location is SW of NAT the picture showing the skunken ship is wrong! You will find a underwater suken ship SW of NAT'S LOCATION don't go to northern suken ship it will not spawn shark.

The first time I tried this, I swam over to the boat and then smeared myself with the stuff, which did nothing. So after the paste wore off, I swam back over to Nat, resmeared myself, and swam back over. It was on the swim back to the boat that I got attacked, so I think it is you entering the area with yourself smeared that spawns the mob. The mob name is "Lurking Shark", and you shouldn't have to go looking for it, it will come attack you.

Take quest, but dont go. Stand next to Nate, paste yourself up.. (make sure to spread into those hard to reach spots :-)

And jump to the boat... that sharkie comes right at you out of nowhere.. fun to watch Quest Time 1 min 2 seconds

You MUST apply the "fish paste" before entering the water and heading toward the sunken ship . He comes straigh at you! "so get ready" :D

I tried to cheat the system a bit by smearing myself with the paste and then prowling to the ship. The shark was there, but despawned because he had no target to attack since I was prowling. I went back to Nate and then did the journey again normally without prowling, and the shark attacked me.

So, if you're a rogue or druid, you can't stealth or prowl your way to the boat.

Just a heads up.

hey guys dont go by this picture the short is south of Nat. and the shark showed almost right away so when you get the mission go southwest and its like 30 ft from Nat's island

Ok, don't make the same mistake as many others, including myself. The ship you're looking for is directly behind Nat's island. Nat is located at 59, 60; the boat is at 56,62. In other words, when you're standing on the dock, go southwest over the island and to the boat. Don't forget to smear on the paste.

Quest completed as a level 33 druid with feral spec. It's a pretty easy quest IF you don't aggro more than one monster. He doesn't have any special attacks, as people have said, and I was able to apply the fish paste right there. If you have any sort of stealthing ability, it's even easier. Just apply the paste and walk around until it says "Entering Combat." The lurking shark can apparently see through stealth, so if you're not too close to any of the crabmen then the only thing to attack you will be the shark. Stay stealthed, and swim away from the crabmen for a bit. Not too far, or the shark will swim away. That sucks. So just go far enough that you won't aggro the crabmen, and start whacking the shark. Should be alright if you've got some heals. Again, being a feral druid really helps. I only had to heal once, and when I ran out of breath I just popped into sea lion form for a second and then back to cat.

I spent almost an HOUR on this quest. I've applied so much bait crap on me im gonna smell for weeks!

COME TO FIND OUT, the map on the site, IS THE WRONG BOAT! Went to the boat behind Nat's Island and in about 30 seconds the shark attacked me. I hate whoever posted that picture.

Ok guys read this carefull:
How to get that fricken shark spawned:
1.Smear that paste over yourself right by Nat Pagle!
2.Swim over to the ship wreck (you can even see it on you mini-map)
3.Now swim over to the Mackrell around the ship.
4. The shark should spawn a little to the left by the back of the ship.
5. Anyway if not there, just swim around it.

To get this quest to work properly, I had to apply the paste *before* leaving the little dock that Nagel is standing on. After applying the paste, I jumped straight into the water and then swam towards the ship. The shark appeared as I got close to the ship.
As a mage (lvl 40), it was an easy kill: sheep, pyroblast, freeze, pyroblast, zap with wand a couple of times to save mana and finish it off.
Note: the first time I tried this q, I applied the paste after leaving the dock, but while still standing on Nagel's island. The q did not work.

How long should it take to get attacked by the shark?
I've been trying to do this quest for 2 hours with constantly swimming around the wreck, killing makuras and re-applying the paste every 5 minutes.

This quest was a pain until i figured out how to get the shark to come out. You can't swim to the ship, put the bait on and swim around. You have to put the bait on and THEN swim from nat's landing to the ship. Hope this helps.

There are apparently two shipwrecks here. I spent 10 min swimming around the wrong one before I found the right one. The right one is at loc 55, 63. The wrong one is further east and a lot smaller.

You don't have to stay among the crab mobs. Just clear an area where you would not aggro some of them, because the shark is gonna show just after you use the lure (at least it was like this to me). Done with my 35 shammy.

Proper cords are 56,62 (cosmos addon). You don't have to swim far. Its pretty much right behind the quest giver Nat Pagle. Hope that helps...

Be prepared for an awful lot of those Crabby Patties or whatever they are. I killed about six or seven waiting for the shark to make an appearance, then two more while killing the shark. Then another two while I was trying to eat and drink on the deck of the sunken ship. Respawn rate was amazing. The XP was OK, but this was work not play, and the reward was embarrassing. The crabs drop nothing. I don't even think you can skin them. : /

So you found a copy of Dastardly Denizens of the Deep, did you? Well, I can tell you from experience, it's all true. I've even seen a few of 'em with my own eyes.

But you want to know about Tethyr. I said I'd make you a deal, so here's what I want you to do. I'm working on a new line of baits, but I haven't tested this one yet.

Just take this paste -- yeah, it smells a little foul -- smear it on yourself, and swim over to that wrecked ship to the southwest. If you survive, let me know how it works!
