I am not sure the pre req for this quest. I did the first few quests outside of honor hold, and some at expedition point, in addtion to the quest which drops of the last boss in ramparts.

Lvl 61 and friendly with Honor Hold. Quest was available for me.

Level 60 when I got this, did a few quests. Ended up being able to take it after "The Path of Anguish". However, a friend never did this quest and still had it.

Watchmaster Gargolmar (https://www.wowhead.com/tbc/npc=17306)

He patrols with 2 healer pals. Wait for him to path away and make sure all groups on both sides of the hall are cleared out. Once you are ready to take on Gargolmar, CC both healers and then simply DPS him down and finish them up. If you cannot get both healers out of the way, then deal with one or both of them first as they will keep him healed up.

Gargolmar will randomly charge group members, so this is a good fight to have everybody stand relatively close together so your tank can easily pick up aggro again after a charge.

Omor has three surprises. First, he curses group members with an effect that does insane damage to other group members within 15 yards. Decursing helps with this, but it's easiest to just spread out and ignore this curse on your ranged classes and concentrate the decursing on the meleers who have no choice but to stand next to each other.

Secondly, he spawns felhunter adds who will start spell locking your casters. Put an offtank/rogue on the job of keeping these cleared away.

Lastly, he'll knock your tank up in the air and then shoot shadowbolts at whoever is next on the threat list. Tanks should be prepared to switch to fury stance and hit intercept (Droods and pallies, I don't know if you have an equiv to this) - if you can do that fast enough you'll immediately re-engage him without hitting the ground.

Handle all of the above and this fight is a pretty easy win.

This can be a really rough fight. The event is in play as soon as you touch one of the two final mobs at the base of the ramp where you see the dragon flying around in the air.

Initially, it's a simple two-mob pull. Once the second mob drops, then it's game time with Vazruden who will hop down off his mount to engage the group. We've found it helpful to kill the first of the two mobs and then keep the second one CC'd for a bit to make sure all casters get topped off and everybody is healthy, because after this you'll not get much of a break.

There's two good ways to handle Vazruden and Nazan, depending on how much DPS your group is putting out. If you are chewing stuff up without a problem, then just DPS the crap out of Vaz and drop him as the dragon lands (the dragon will always land before he's dead, but if you're killing him fast enough it works out to drop him as your tank runs to the dragon).

On the other hand, if your group is of the protection/holy/etc spec and you're better at staying alive than you are at dishing out mad DPS, then try the other approach. Have your tank keep Vaz busy and everybody in the group that has range should be firing at the dragon in the air. He IS vulnerable to attack while flying around and a strong ranged group can easily get him down to the 25% health range before he lands.

Whichever approach you use, make sure you're dancing to stay out of the fire spits.

When engaging Nazan, we've found it effective to have everybody move down to the ringed area. Have your tank back up a bit and everybody else in the group stays in the 1/2 circle behind the dragon. When the dragon breathes fire, the tank just runs "inside" him, rendering his spray effectless. Everybody else's job is to avoid the fire spits and finish Nazan off.

A fire potion is helpful to avoid some damage and make the fight easier, but if you stay on your toes and follow the above tips it's not necessary for a win.

An easy quest.. u must find a good group.. and follow the road.. kill every boss.. and take the 3 quest item..be careful against the dragon... are not easy to kill

Thinking of having your guild run your 59 twink through these last two Hellfire quests to get your gear? Not sure if the experience points will make you level to 60? Here's what I found.

The main thing is: you can avoid getting XP in the instances either by standing outside the entrance while the rest of your party does the killing, or by being inside but a long distance from them. You need to get up close for the three boss fights in Ramparts but those are the only times you need to get XP from killing anything.

If you target your party's main tank and see a mob in the target-of-target, you're too close: you will get experience when that mob dies. The safe distance is about 200 yards I think. This is only tricky in Ramparts when the first long corridor bends back on itself: you have to follow them around and stay on the opposite side of the circle (except when killing Gargolmar of course). My party was progressing at a moderate speed and I never saw any respawn.

I was in a party with four level 70's. Three orc trash mobs in Ramparts bumped me about 280 XP each when I got too close (that's including the unavoidable rested bonus). And a single orc in the Blood Furnace bumped me 560 XP!

With those few trash mob XP kills, and including the 620 XP for discovering Hellfire Basin (outside the Blood Furnace entrance), my total XP gain was 33,746. That's 12,600 for the first quest, a total of around 6,200 for the unavoidable three boss kills in Ramparts, 12,950 for the second quest, and the rest in accidental trash mob XP. As others have mentioned, you don't have to stick around for the final boss fight in Furnace, just step to the edge of the large circular chamber.

So if you're more than 18,800 XP from levelling to 60, you can do the first quest, and if you're more than 31,750 XP, you can do both. But you probably want to add a 5,000-10,000 XP safety margin to that, just in case.

In two days, of course, patch 2.3 goes live and I don't know how much that will increase XP gains for level 59 characters. So in 2.3, your mileage will vary.

I Hate this place, I've had 9 groups of all different types and in total about 23 wipes and still didn't kill that last boss (Dragon) so I've dropped it like a bad habbit. It's a major time & gold repair waster.

Also whats with ppl after 2 wipes giving up?

I made Ill Omens with my first Char and all he got was the Quest to gather 10 Bloodphials from Orcs in the Blood Furnace. I wasn't up there until later wenn he was friendly and I got the Quest. But friendly can't be the requirement, since we could share the Quest with others, who weren't friendly, but got it nonetheles, whereas one who was friendly got the message "not eligible".

Becuase the Dragon will use the fire damge AOE your hunter should hold off puting his pet driectly onto the dragon once the rider is down. You should have time to bandage/rebuff pets and send them in full health. If the Tank wipes pets should hold agg long enough to finish him.

Not sure about the "ill omens" thing. I haven't completed it, but I still got this quest. I suspect a lot of these quests become available after you become Friendly with Honor Hold- not sure tho.

What I've found:

o If you have a warlock, SS your healer. Dragon will land and kill the main healer. Tank probably won't have time to taunt the dragon.
o If you don't have a warlock, but have 2 healers, have the more "expendable" one do the first big heal on your tank. One time in, we had druid and paladin. Paladin tossed the first heal and druid took it from there. Paladin got the dragon in the face routine.
o Fight in the circular area. The first time we tried him, we fought on the bridge. Backing up to avoid the fire caused him to go evade and then despawn permanently.
o FR helps, but isn't necessary. Every time I've done it, I've not had my (long since) obsolete FR gear with me. Bear tank with 14k armor and 9k health helps, though.

Key is to kill the rider fast, so you don't have two to deal with. When I'm tanking it, I'll switch targets to the dragon as soon as I can, taunt, and then rotate swipe/mangle/maul until the rest of the party kills the rider. That way, I have good aggro on the dragon.

anyone got any clever ideas? we had apretty good group and wiped 6 times. never did get him. pretty quick he one shot dropped our healer, then... well u know.

"Ill Omens" is required as the pre-req. Finishing it does not "lead" to this quest, but once you finish it these become available.

Did the last boss with two feral druids 64(200fr with pali buff) and 63 warlock 64 63 paladin and rouge. 64 druid took dragon but without fire resist would have died and a wipe probably would have occured. Managed to maintain agro and having no real healer dragon went straight to tank.

Done easily with no other taking ne real damage.

I have wiped lots of times, but killed them 2 times.

The tank should turn the dragon away from the rest and the healer should stand, så he can reach the tank even though he should move around to avoid the fire.
Fire resist is very good too here. A paladin with fire resist end/or fire resist gear for the tank + fire resist potions might help.
Have done it though with 1 warrior, 2 mages, 1 priest and 1 hunter and the other time with 1 warrior, 1 mage, 1 priest, one paladin and one hunter.
And don't use mana on the two guards before the bossfight and kill the dragon rider very quickly, so you dont have both of them at the same time.
I don't know if it helps, because I will mostly wipe still, but it seems to work all of a sudden :o)

Like many others it seems, I've wiped a few times against the dragon (melee-heavy groups)...

I was wondering if off-tanking rider and setting casters after dragon *before* he lands had been tried and shown to work.

Any input appreciated.

We were able to kill the rider and dragon on the second try a couple of nights ago. Our party makeup was 63war, 63rogue, 63druid(moonkin), 62 priest, and 61 mage(frost). There was no special technique to kill the two guards, and as soon as they are down the rider dismounts, and we set the rogue and warrior on him. Very quickly we dps'd him to about 20% health and at that time the dragon lands and the warrior moved to tank the dragon with rogue and treats staying on the rider. The warrior was very heavily equipped with fire gear and tanked very well. As the mage I made full use of fire ward, which dropped (absorbing 900dmg) each time the dragon hit us with fireballs, however there was sufficient time for cooldown between the fireball attacks to immediately bring it back up. With some excellent healing from our priest, we defeated them with no deaths after a complete wipe on the first try. Also, do not pull them onto the bridge, but stay in the circle because you will have more room to move around and avoid fire.

I have the hand, but the hoof and head have not dropped. I have run the Ramparts about 6 times. Is the drop limited to one party member and I'm just not seeing it picked up?

Must be some basic rep requirement for this quest. I'd done it fine with a couple of toons. With one toon I was trying to do a lot of pre outland stuff before I want to outland so I was lvl 61 by the time I got there. Initially the quest wasn't available but after doing a couple of honor hold quests (that didn't really seem related to it) it became available and I hadn't reached friendly as I thought I might need to be. I'd only done about 3 or 4 apparently unrelated honor hold quests.

I completed the quests in the chain starting with "The Legion Reborn" (The Legion Reborn) up to and including "Disrupt Their Reinforcements" (Disrupt Their Reinforcements) and no other quests in Hellfire Peninsula, and I was able to acquire this quest.

Today I tested that you only need to complete up to Expedition Point and after you turn that in you will be able to accept Weaken the Ramparts in HH.

The quest appeared for me at lvl 62 after completing only The Legion Reborn, The Path of Anguish, and Expedition Point. The rest was unnecessary.

I'm 61.
This quest was not available to me.. I went and completed Path of Anguish, since that is what is mentioned in the comments here so much. Quest still unavailable.
Went back to town, Picked up Report to Expedition Point, turned it in, quest appeared. Hope this helps sort through the muck.

For those who had a lot of trouble finding the entrances to these 3 dungeons, you should know that there are 2 pathways, atop the castle walls, that you enter from the southern side of the citadel, on the hill.

(Yes, I know you can fly to find the doors but if you die in the dungeon, you are going to have to find the way to get in from the ground.)

We're caught between Hellfire Citadel in the west and the forces of the Burning Legion to the east. With the Legion's attention turned toward the Dark Portal we must take this opportunity to strike at the fel orcs of Hellfire Citadel. The key to this is to first break through their ramparts!

Go there, slay their leaders, and then bring back proof to Gunny across the hall here from me!
