This is one of the trinkets acquired by defeating four bosses in the Edge of Madness section of Zul'Gurub. The bosses are Gri'lek, Renataki, Wushoolay, and Hazza'rah. Each two weeks the current Edge of Madness boss changes in a predictable rotation, so constructing this trinket takes a minimum of six weeks. Most would consider it well worth the time invested, as this trinket should scale well to level 70 and beyond.

This used to be a good trinket back in the day. Before they completely changed it. It's now utter crap and is very quickly replace by green/blue trinkets in outland in the first zone (Hellfire Pennisula).

I plan on using this in MC, since i use AM most of the time on trash mobs especially. Honestly if you can't see the potential of this item you are playing the wrong class

How about arcane power. talisman of ephermal power/zandalarian hero charm and then this trinket .. that would add 175/280 spell damage (a little less since its an 1.5sec aoe) and then 85% extra damage on a crit! I would like to test this first though to see if its useful.

yeah so this is for DaHenk... I just wanted to point out... although it's a rad idea to have the bonus of 3 trinkets at once... that's not actually possible :) and i'm very sorry if this sounds even the slightest bit SARCASTIC as to how foolish your post was. ToEP and ZHC, that's about as good as it gets. also, for some info, if your guild isn't doing MC yet, or killing the new Hakkar, then u can always check out the weaker +dmg buff trinket from AQ, it's something like +50 and decreases magical resistance by like 20 for 20 seconds... check out AQ boss loot tables cause for the life me i can't remember. anyhow sorry about making fun of your post there mate. :) couldn't resist

does anybody know arcane blast? �_�
with arcane talents u have 15% additional crit chance on arcane blast, plus arcane power. maybe at liv 70 arcane could be a viable spec also in pvp, as proven by some videos, and this trinket will have his utility.

"i just got this 2 days ago! I'm full arcne spec with 10 points in frost for ice shards, but anyways you get empowered arcane missiles, TOEP, and ARCANE POWER + spell power spec, and then pop this, omg they are now critting for 2k+ holy &*!@. one time i pushed arcane missiles and my clearcasting proced, and that gives youa +30% chance to crit i killed a full t2 warrior with one set of arcane missiles because they all critted for 2500 hahahahaha i think the warrior might have quit WOW.."

1. ToEP and the Charm share the same cooldown so CANNOT be used together.

2. The trinket gives 50% more damage on your arcane spells which works out to exactly +115 damage on a rank 8 arcane missile tick.

3. Furthermore for you to possibly be able to crit +2500 damage on a single arcane missile with AP + charm you would need gear giving well over +1500 spell damage which I believe no one currently has with pre-lv70 content.

Actually get the trinket instead of making things up. Its about 60 damage less than using TOEP at lv60 rank spells, it will scale with future arcane spells but not by much.

So again, stop it you lying motherf****r.

Well, my highest crit in WSG with berzerker and ZHC on arcane missiles is 1400 per tick (critical of course). I imagine with this trinket it would be even more, because since your arcane crits are 125% damage without the talent Spell Power 2/2, then with the 2/2 Spell Power it is 175%, with this trinket it would be 225%, and if my crit was 1400 with 175%, with 225% it would be at least 1500 or 1600 even if you remove the ZHC from the picture. I think this trinket is very good and very valuable. Considering the fact that I was hitting 1400 per second, which is 3500 per 2.5 seconds, which is more than frost mages do. I think arcane is a very viable damage spec. BTW I also crit for 5000 on my PoM Pyro. (With Berzerk in WSG).

dont know how useful this is but it is specific.
with new arcane tree it could be devistating and new arcane blast or whatnot

I'm a big fan of crit... but the +50% crit damage is just nuts!

ToEP or ZHC + this and the suicide AE bombing in AB would be hella fun. Probably get off ~1200+ crits... that's some serious AOE dmg...

not as bad as you think. ATM, the mages Arcane spells are the only ones not able to match the 2x crit multiplier that they can get for fire and ice in their respective trees (ALL spells normally crit for 1.5x damage, unlike melee criting for 2x base before talents). This trinket ups the crit chance by 5% for arcane only, and allows arcane cirts a 2x mutliplier. At sometime take a look at the 2 sad arcane spells a mage has, then their talents. IAE is 15 points for a BACKUP spell, or a panic button. AM is pathetic, peroid. This is nice for when you hit off ToEP and AP to AM the boss in MC (with arc sub and BoS), otherwise it's pointless.

This would have been much better if it was for all spells, or even just fire or ice.

I'd rather have 5% chance to crit with all spell types and 50% increase in crit damage with all spells as well, so we can get those frostbolts critting over 2000 ^_^.

I myself don't agree that it's overpowered. Look at the dmg bonuses...

Fire = 80%-160%
Frost = 100%
Arc = 50%

Just as Virdus pointed out: Now it's fair.

Also, not only is it fun playing suicide using AE with ToEP + this on in AB, but it's also fun to use Arcane Missles + the trinkets at mass ranges... :D

If you ask me its way overpowered. But it does depend what the cooldown time is. If its like 20minutes its proberly not that overpowered. But 5minutes would be insanely overpowered.

It is not + 50% damage.

It is 50% damage on critical strikes.

So your arcane missiles will still hit for 272 (What they hit for me) except for the 20 seconds you will have critical strikes for 200% damage as opposed to 150%, that is IF you get a critical strike.

Or is it 175% ?

EDIT: DOH! It says right up there 3 mins... Kinda nice tho. For an arcane specced mage like me this would increase my damage with 9% for 20secs.
12% base crit chance and increasing my crit damage bonus from 75% to 100% would result in 4% extra damage (a crit damage is increased with a third going from 75% to 100% and a third of 12% is 4%). 5% extra crit chance with a 100% crit damage bonus results in 5% extra damage (on average).
Add arcane power and it would be 9%*1.3=11.7% extra damage.

BTW in case you don't know Arcane Missiles gain 142% of your spell damage bonus since version 2.0.1.

How much +spell damage does Arcane Missles actually gain? I have +400 spell dmg as standard and used to have talents specced so that my arcane missles got an extra 45% of my spell dmg bonus.

but when i actually used it each missle was hitting for only 400 dmg a go and critting near 800, considering the base damage of arcane missles is only 230 per second (correct me if im wrong) it seems that i was only getting around half of my bonus spell dmg added on to the missle

after respeccing i've chosen to alter my build and predominatnly use fireballs instead of arcane missles so i left out the 3 points required to gain the 45% to arc missles, they still hit at around 350, meaning only a 250 total loss in dmg so if that 45% extra i was getting only amounted to 250 over 5seconds it seems arcane missles dont gain very much from +dmg anyway, around 1/4 of your +dmg is given to arc miss is what i worked out.

i cant remember where exactly but i heard that u only gain 100% of your +spell dmg to spells that have a cast time of 3 seconds or more, mayb the fact arcane missles is a channeled spell has something to do with it

wonder if that means using PoM gives the next spell cast +0% ! surely not

if anyone has anythin to add to this i'd appreciate the help in clearing this one up.

I think you "overpowered" folks are overlooking something. The effect only lasts for 20 seconds and doesn't guarentee every arcane spell is gonna crit, just that there's a 5% increased chance of it. I can't be bothered to run the numbers, but my guess is that this would only increase your arcane dps by about 10-15% or so over those 20 seconds...that's by no means ZOMGWTFBBQ...maybe if it were passive, or applied to all spelltypes.

This obviously synergizes particularily well with the talent Arcane Impact.

20 seconds is enough time for you to cast 13 Arcane Explosions (1.5s GCD), and the spell has a 14.28% spell damage scaling coefficient. A very well-geared Mage has approximately +800 Spell damage (this example profile has 824 without the trinket) and their Spell critical hit chance usually sits at around 14% (14.04% in the example profile), but this trinket increases it to around 19%. Spell crits deal 150% damage.

Knowing all of this, we can do some simple calculations.

Casting 13 Arcane Explosions with 19% Spell crit means you'll land approximately 11 non-critical Arcane Explosions and 2 critical ones. With +800 Spell Damage, your non-crits deal 363 to 384 Arcane damage, and your critical casts deal 545 to 576 Arcane Damage -- however, with the 50% addition, your crits now deal a whopping 818 to 864 Arcane damage. Your 13 casts will have dealt an average of 5791 Arcane damage (or 289-290 DPS per target).

As should now be painfully evident, this trinket becomes insane powerful only when you really stack Spell crit instead of Spell damage.

So, why not theorize a maximal spell crit Mage for this purpose? Here's a quick profile I drafted up stacking Spell crit to the absolute maximum. The profile comes with a whopping 39.04% crit to Arcane Explosions, and with the trinket activated, that value rises up to 44.04%. Now approximately 6 of your 13 Arcane Explosions are going to land as critical hits, thus causing significantly more damage. With this profile, your non-crits deal 299 to 320 damage and your crits deal 674 to 720 damage. NOW your 13 casts dealt an average of 6352 Arcane damage (or 317-318 DPS per target) -- that's almost 9% more damage with 56% less spell damage!
